Just a little point I want to make about people getting mad about giving a game a 10/10. They say it's not right because the game isn't flawless. No game is flawless(except maybe Portal 2). If it had to be flawless then there's no point of a 10/10. So the real meaning is a masterpiece. A game that does so much right and is so engaging and rises above most other games out there that it earns the highest rating possible. That's what 10/10 means. Hopefully that clears things up.

3 AntwortenBearbeitet von Tartan 118: 3/22/2017 12:31:00 PMPortal 2 sure as shit isn't flawless. I know you were kidding, but still. I'm replaying it at the moment, and while nothing has yet jumped at me as significantly flawed, there are niggles: Valve needn't highlight usable objects early in the game (reminds me of HL2: Ep. 2, with its glowing ammo). How does Wheatley slow down in the epilogue, if he's travelling through space? Similarly, how does the space sphere change direction? There are loading screens between each test chamber, early on, not simply a lift that pauses for a few seconds. Bah. I'll probably be able to remember my biggest gripes with the game once I'm done with it. To be fair, it was easily one of the best games of 2011, which to this day is probably my favourite year of gaming (I didn't really participate in the industry in '98, seeing as I was 8 years old).

On man's masterpiece is another man's garage sell.

8 AntwortenAlso GotY doesn't mean best game ever *looks at Overwatch*
-
8 AntwortenBotW isn't a masterpiece though...
-
Its subjective I guess. 10 outta 10 to me sounds like its flawless (for its time) it seems like I see 10/10 more often than is reasonably possible tbh.
-
2 AntwortenJust because you'll never land a 10/10 doesn't mean you have to be salty about others with good fortune

7 AntwortenPersonally, I view a 10/10 as a game which defines the genre. It is the title which is the best at what it does. For example: I would say that The Witness is a 10/10. It is the best puzzle game that I have every played. It is no where near perfect, and has some considerable issues - but despite those, if only one puzzle game could exist, it would be the one I picked.
-
But 5/7 does mean perfect
-
The Last of Us was 10/10 in my book.
-
Yes, when speaking on subjective matters, a perfect score does not signify perfection. As with all subjective things, perfection is an impossibility.
-
1 AntwortenI don't know why this concept is so hard for people. Perfection does not exist, you should understand from a young age. We don't need a constant reminder of that in our arbitrary media score numbers.
-
This is why it's essential to actually read the reviews and not just glance at the number. There is no universal "grading" system for games and it's impossible to be completely objective while reviewing them. The articles exist to give context from the reviewer to the reader, without which the numerical value assigned to the game is irrelevant. A sci-fi RPG nerd is probably going to review ME better (as in give it a higher score, not be more competent at giving a review) than somebody who is a huge fps fan, or vice versa.
-
and who are you to define that?
-
3 AntwortenSo a 10/10 on your math test isn't perfect? I'm confused. Yes, 10/10 indicates perfect. Of course it's highly subjective, but to me it means flawless, and there's nothing they could improve it. Otherwise it would be a 9.9, 9.8, etc... it's why we have a numbered scoring system, just like your teachers did when they graded your work. I personally think (again, subjective) that no game ever should have been assigned a 10/10 in the history of games, ever. High 9's is the highest I personally (subjective!) would ever assign a game.
-
Only a perfect 5/7 can exist.
-
5 out of 7 is a perfect score
-
5 AntwortenWhat about 9/11
-
10/10 is just a number that means little to the person who put that score in. It does not matter at all to anybody else, as everybody has an opinion.
-
That sounds like an opinion, tbh. I haven't played any game I'd give 10/10. Maybe 9.8/10. If a game gets 10/10, that means there's no room for improvement.
-
Lol, love that portal 2
-
I have never given a game a 10/10 because 10/10 means it would be the perfect game with everything I could ever want in a video game
-
20 AntwortenIf you get a 10/10 on a test, that means your test was flawless, you got everything exactly right. I would suggest the same is applied everywhere, it does mean perfect/flawless, a flawless score has to exist cause it could (in theory) happen. 9.5/10, too much water
-
5 AntwortenPortal 2 is too short Flaw right there
-
Pretty much. Frankly, I hate it when people use the term "perfect". Drives me nuts. There is no such thing as a perfect anything.
-
Of course. That's what the 5/7 score is.
-
Thank. You. No one seems to get this
