Yes the community is split...and Bungie needs to understand WHY it is split. But in Bungie's defense that is not as easy as it sounds. I've been playing loot-based games for decades, and its taken me awhile to figure out why some RNG loot systems can still even annoy me. What Bungie is doing with Ice Breaker is the wrong way to go for three reasons. 1. A large percentage of the game's playes are shooter gamers. IN shooter games progression systems are done via UNLOCKS (based on accomplishments or experience gained). So your rate of pregression in the game is directly proportional to the effort you put in. Thus giving the player maximum control. Whereas the straight RNG basis that Bungie is letting Icebreaker drop, turns progression into slot machine. All effort gets you is another pull at the one-armed bandit. So---depending on luck----you could get it this week.....or you could still be trying to get it the week Destiny 2 drops. 2. For many of us this is a weapon that we've already earned, and is simply being given back to us as Bungie puts it back in the game. Just like Gjallarhorn was this year....and Black Spindle (Hammer) was last year. Making people play slots to get back a weapon they've already earned is testing people's tolerance. 3. This game is not like your typical RPG with an RNG loot system. For most of this games life, THERE HAS BEEN NO CHARACTER ABILITY TREE. No steady, EFFORT BASED way of progressing your character and increasing their power ALONGSIDE the loot that is RNG-based. The presence of a character ability tree makes the RNG loot system tolerable. Even enjoyable. But in games like this----and The Division----when the only source of increasing the power of your character comes through the obtaining of loot....and most of the loot is RNG based. People start to get frustrated. Because achieving their goals int eh game becomes a matter of LUCK, rather than effort or skill. TLDR: Bungie should have learned from its past mistakes and made obtaining Ice Breaker the result of a quest like Gjallarhorn, Black Spindle, Thorn were. Not use it as an inducement to try to get people to play the Nightfall...and then hope to get lucky. ImO, pull the Nightfall slotmachine and hoping it spits out an exotic...was the part of Year One play that I DESPISED the most.

Should have been a story quest to get the ice breaker . 3 or 4 missions that explain the story behind the ice breaker and then at the end you receive it. It's nothing more than a nostalgic item for most of us I really don't care if I get it but to actually have a story behind these weapons that you can interact in would be awesome.

I had to wait until House of Wolves was nearly upon us before I finally got a Vex Mythoclast from the vault of glass. That was running three characters through the raid almost every week. It's been two weeks, 6 chances, and people are complaining about not having got Icebreaker yet. To them I say: HARDEN UP PRINCESS, IT'LL DROP WHEN IT'S READY!!!

People just want to biatch and moan, if it isn't the icebreaker,vital be something else. They'll just. Keep. On. Biatching.

Ahhh but most people already had it which is why they are annoyed. They shouldn't make us grind for weapons we already owned.
