I'm well aware that Rift is not the most popular game in the Crucible, but it's my favorite way to play Destiny. Please allow me to explain.
I've been playing shooters with a Clan - the same Clan - since Halo 2. We've taken a long path to get to Destiny, migrating through Call of Duty, Gears of War, Battlefield, Grand Theft Auto, Titanfall, and anything else that let has let us play as a team. Throughout those journeys, I've always loved objective-based gameplay.
My favorite scenarios occur when a game lets me acquire a crucial element (i.e. "Ball Taken!" or "I've got the bomb!") and choose my own path. I've never been comfortable defending a fixed position, and I'll usually lose a one-on-engagement in a kill-or-be-killed scenario. In a gametype like Rift, however, a gamer like me gets to shine. I know I'm not alone.
It's a rush to collect the Spark and go into full Quarterback Mode. I'm always telling my Clan that, if you want the Spark, you need to be willing to call the shots. The perfect Spark runner has a good sense for enemy choke-points. They link up with teammates and drive forward as a unified front. Or, they can use those same teammates to lure enemy defenders away from the flank they intend to exploit. Some of the best moves in Rift have nothing to do with pulling the trigger. I love the mental game - the tactical cat and mouse of it all.
I know... I know... This makes me "part of the problem," entering Rift with a solid team and winning through the brute strength of coordination. Playing Rift reminds me of amazing times that I had with the same old friends playing Assault or Capture the Flag. You can't change what you love. I'll take the scorn that comes from what we call "Victory through superior recruitment" if it inspires just one of you to go here and dip your toe in the water.
Please don't be mad at me for saying so. Please understand that I've been cannon fodder in every other Iron Banner. I've caught more than my fair share of Nova Bombs in the face like an idiot as I tried to control Zone B all by myself. I've been sniped out of the air like a clay pigeon as I floated around on Warlock wings in a game of Clash. I've bathed every map of the Crucible in my own blood - and I've been happy to do so. I love playing Destiny, and I don't mind giving you my Light. Someone has to lose, and it usually tends to be me. With Rift, I get to enjoy what's in my wheelhouse. It's been refreshing.
So, if you've played Rift this past week, I thank you. This Iron Banner has been a great time, and I truly appreciate the people who have played with me, even if against me. I've added some much-needed Light to my Warlock. I got to reconnect with some people on my friends list in the ways we used to play. Much love for every single Guardian we've met up with through Matchmaking - and that one lone wolf we pulled onto our team.
Mind you, the Crucible Team did not put Rift into Iron Banner circulation because I asked them to. I think maybe they know that there are players like me in the community, and they wanted to give us a chance to play some ball. Peace.

Bring back arena doubles like in halo. 6 teams of 2...that game was so much fun
-
Thanks for sharing Deej. I'm with you on that topic. You can be top scorer in rift and win the match without shooting a single bullet. It puts more emphasis on teamwork and communication than other 6v6 modes. Solo it may be harsh - but with a fire team Rift is a blast. I enjoyed it and had moderate success queueing solo despite being an average crucible player. The most fun I had was with a full fire team however.
-
Thanks for sharing your thoughts DeeJ. However, Rift is still mediocre at best and the recruitment section of bungie.net is garbage that needs work. Destiny really needs an in-game system.........period. In the meantime, I'll stick with Xbox Live's recently integrated LFG system and the100.io.

1 AntwortenI would like the Iron Banner rotation to be: Supremacy > Clash > Control > Supremacy > Clash > Control > Rift > MAYHEM CLASH then repeat.
-
To long, didn't read. More vault space please.

1 AntwortenI appreciate you engaging with the community in this way DeeJ. Good on ya. I still don't care for Rift, but I can concede that my sentiment on the game mode would likely change if I had more consistent clan mates/friends. Personally I'd like to see you and Cozmo both in these forums more often, whether it's to give an anecdotal narrative like you did here, to take any kind of poll, be it something that actually is game-relevant or even just silly nonsense, or even to take the occasional jab at forum surfers! 🏄 Hell, my current forum name was inspired by one of your own more infamous trolls! I don't envy the immediate backlash that probably destroyed your phone, so you probably won't even see this comment, but nonetheless, I wanted to say kudos for taking a chance by posting. Now, put in a word for those of us who've been dying for some Mayhem Banana, please!

2 AntwortenBearbeitet von Relyks: 12/13/2016 8:09:30 PMIron Banner can be brutal when you are going in as a lone wolf, especially in Rift. But on the other hand, Rift has the most rewarding feeling when working as a organized and fluid team. I honestly didn't expect Rift to be as fun as it did last week. Thanks to you all.
-
I like Rift, didn't play though. Too many issues right now in crucible, but I'll do the Dawning stuff. I'm not gonna scream at you or anything, you've heard it all. You're just a messenger and I think you're alright. It's a thankless job, but Destiny would've died without it I think.

Oh my god stop trying to use this as a reason to push the shitty recruitment section. Because that is all this boils down to. For one thing I have plenty of people to run with, but it's something called having a life that prevents us all from getting on all the time. Plus you shouldn't have to run with a full stacked team just to win an objective game time. Hell we've been beaten and beaten full teams before so it doesn't really matter if you're running a full fire team.
-
No offense but it seems like bungie is doing more arguing with the destiny community then listening. HELLLLLLOOOOO!!!! Wake up call to bungie! Your losing your customer base, and this game really sucks when your friends are playing other games. Makes a guy frustrated lol.

Cute post. Give us Mayhem Clash for next IB. Thanks
-
Hello. What do you like about the Dawning?
For me I just want to open the gifts and get the Icebreaker :)
For the longest time, I have hated Rift. This time around, I saw some of my clan mates playing solo. So, I asked if they wanted to team up. And teamed up, we did! Since we've been raiding, we know each other pretty much and we communicate... a lot! Most of the time, it's crazy talk and kinda NSFW. But when the tough gets going, we pulled through. I haven't had much fun in Iron Banner for a long time. I'm glad you had fun too, guardian!
-
I'm with you all the way op. I was never a fan of rift until this past iron banner...and now I love it! I just started thinking of it like football, and all of a sudden it made sense to me.
-
i dont get all the hate. personally i dont mind rift, especially when you spawn in and can get to the spark before the other team, and ignite their rift before they have even had their cornflakes
-
1 AntwortenI still just want a classic CTF setting. Two bases, two flags, no man's land in the middle.

5 AntwortenRift is by far my least favorite Crucible mode, but I gotta admit, playing Rift with a full fire team of me, and 5 of my best friends, is some of the most fun I've had in Destiny. I just hate how dependent it is on momentum, and how difficult it is to shift momentum.
-
Love this mode with a team of friends. Without one, not so much. Had people literally running of the map. While funny as hell, not going to win you a match.

Only thing about IB this go round that pisses me off? My connection was such that I knew I would be unable to play. I've been looking forward to Rift IB for quite a while. I'm a little depressed I couldn't "give it a go" this time. I'm not generally the typical "DeeJ butt kisser", but... Very well stated DeeJ. I LOVE objective based Crucible matches (hey, I suck pretty bad at the others). Rift is a blast when you get matched up with 11 other randoms. Always a "crap shoot" on how it's going to go. :) That's part of the fun for me.
-
I enjoyed IB rift and i never went in with a 6 man. Even before the matchmaking change. Most i went in with was 3 and it wasnt that often.
-
This was refreshing. :)
-
I absolutely enjoy being the spark runner. Very few things are better than sneaking up and slamming on an entire fireteam lying in wait.
-
Well said. But rift is still terrible. However, despite my solid intention not to, I played anyway. And it wasn't the worst I've ever done. (Close to it, but not the worst).

4 AntwortenIf you had a bad time this IB, then guess what? Might not be your game mode. Ultimately, the people who are crying about matadors and stormcallers such... Your complaint would stand regardless of the game mode, so this isn't the forum to complain about your balancing ideas. IB rift is fun. It's fun playing Rift with the general population of crucible players rather than the people who exclusively play rift. I only knocked off the bounties on one character this time instead of three due to time constraints, but it was fun. If you were a real guardian in the tower and Efrideet, Saladin, or Shaxx challenged you to a different style of competition, you would adapt. Sorry if it isn't your cup of tea, but don't think that your upset is everyone else's as well. Deej, you and the team can test any gamemode out in IB. I endure through the clash ones (that I'm not a fan of but still tear it up in) and enjoy the control and rift ones. You could put up a 6v6 elimination IB and I would be happy to play it. HELL, it could be 6v6 salvage, and I would play it to see what that'd be like. You guys do you . Cheers and happy holidays to all of you.
