I'm well aware that Rift is not the most popular game in the Crucible, but it's my favorite way to play Destiny. Please allow me to explain.
I've been playing shooters with a Clan - the same Clan - since Halo 2. We've taken a long path to get to Destiny, migrating through Call of Duty, Gears of War, Battlefield, Grand Theft Auto, Titanfall, and anything else that let has let us play as a team. Throughout those journeys, I've always loved objective-based gameplay.
My favorite scenarios occur when a game lets me acquire a crucial element (i.e. "Ball Taken!" or "I've got the bomb!") and choose my own path. I've never been comfortable defending a fixed position, and I'll usually lose a one-on-engagement in a kill-or-be-killed scenario. In a gametype like Rift, however, a gamer like me gets to shine. I know I'm not alone.
It's a rush to collect the Spark and go into full Quarterback Mode. I'm always telling my Clan that, if you want the Spark, you need to be willing to call the shots. The perfect Spark runner has a good sense for enemy choke-points. They link up with teammates and drive forward as a unified front. Or, they can use those same teammates to lure enemy defenders away from the flank they intend to exploit. Some of the best moves in Rift have nothing to do with pulling the trigger. I love the mental game - the tactical cat and mouse of it all.
I know... I know... This makes me "part of the problem," entering Rift with a solid team and winning through the brute strength of coordination. Playing Rift reminds me of amazing times that I had with the same old friends playing Assault or Capture the Flag. You can't change what you love. I'll take the scorn that comes from what we call "Victory through superior recruitment" if it inspires just one of you to go here and dip your toe in the water.
Please don't be mad at me for saying so. Please understand that I've been cannon fodder in every other Iron Banner. I've caught more than my fair share of Nova Bombs in the face like an idiot as I tried to control Zone B all by myself. I've been sniped out of the air like a clay pigeon as I floated around on Warlock wings in a game of Clash. I've bathed every map of the Crucible in my own blood - and I've been happy to do so. I love playing Destiny, and I don't mind giving you my Light. Someone has to lose, and it usually tends to be me. With Rift, I get to enjoy what's in my wheelhouse. It's been refreshing.
So, if you've played Rift this past week, I thank you. This Iron Banner has been a great time, and I truly appreciate the people who have played with me, even if against me. I've added some much-needed Light to my Warlock. I got to reconnect with some people on my friends list in the ways we used to play. Much love for every single Guardian we've met up with through Matchmaking - and that one lone wolf we pulled onto our team.
Mind you, the Crucible Team did not put Rift into Iron Banner circulation because I asked them to. I think maybe they know that there are players like me in the community, and they wanted to give us a chance to play some ball. Peace.

Cozmo was literally on twitch with some streamers playing the game. Deej you have little to no validity in this community online anyways, to be its community Manager. Maybe you are better in person at events. No idea. Leave online to cozmo he is doing a much better job than you. Drew out.

Bearbeitet von Reznyk: 12/14/2016 6:03:38 PMI'm not a Rift fan... So I skipped Banner, no biggie. Ran strikes instead and chased Imago Loop. I'll run the next one. Problem solved.

7 AntwortenBearbeitet von The 7th fall: 12/14/2016 11:12:24 AMYou know I do appreciate it that players, under the right circumstances, can enjoy this game mode in this event... but the majority of the time it's either flat out fun or frustrating rage in my experience, and sadly its most of the time frustrating. Putting out one player response won't convince me that Rift is ok for Iron Lagger, here's why. I've played objective based games for years such as MAG, DUST514, Section 8, Section 8: Prejudice, Star Wars Battefront(NOT EA Battlefront), Transformers, Assassin's Creed, Splinter Cell, HALO back in the day, etc. and even old CoD games... but what those games had for me was more variety overall, and noticeably in map sizes and placement of objectives and obstacles than Destiny has to offer. Off the top of your head can you think of any maps, other than a small few that are large enough for vehicles, that are unique in size, obstacle placement, objective placement or offer any real change to what ones we had before? Aside from the themes of Cabal, Hive, Vex, Fallen, or Taken to each map no not really. Though I loved the Vex map for cross map jumping or portal hopping. Sure I haven't played since RoI has rolled 'round but just by viewing videos and pictures of the RoI maps its just the same old same old stuff, just repainted in a different theme. My issue with Rift is not the mode itself but the maps used to play it. Give us more variety in map sizes, placements, encampments, objective placement and such and then you can tell me Rift is a decent idea for Iron Lagger. That's what I loved about HALO back in the day and wanted to see that ingenuity in design be used in Destiny. So far it just seems to be generic CoD styled CQC maps with a few exceptions... pretty dull for a company that made HALO and invented t-bagging. You can do better Bungie, "Impress me yeeesss?"

Obviously a load of hate was coming your way after posting that, but you did it anyway. Without sucking Bungie balls the way you describe your cool runnings style incompetence in Crucible tickles me. I think it's in the spirit of the upcoming holiday season. Fair play mate. I actually enjoyed this IB with RIFT (first time it frustrated me). I hardly play that game mode normally, so it was nice to do something a bit different and like you say with that unique objective gameplay at the fore.

I love how he literally says he's bad at the game, but people are still bashing him

IMO, rift blows. Only somewhat entertaining when played with a full fire team. Incredibly spawn campy, and poorly designed it made this last week a long one. But I appreciate your honesty. I think the positive posts below prove that I'm not the only one. Let's keep this trend going. :)

1 AntwortenPersonally rift is one of my favorites and especially for iron banner. Until I clicked your link and it brought me to the PS4 recruitment page - not Xbox. Now I kinda hate rift

Tell BUNGiE to bring back gametypes similar to oddball and headhunter. (halo reach favorites)

Between this and the weapon balance note, it's clear whoever is running Destiny 1 is disconnected from what the people want in weapons and pvp, seems Luke took the good developers to work on Destiny 2.

1 AntwortenYet another passive aggressive post from Deej. You're a clown and really shouldn't be a community manager.

Honestly I do agree, it's refreshing to be able to win without needing to simply be better at gunfights. Even if your team is terrible and you're all solo and not talking to each other, all it takes is a good distraction or a perfect super timing and you can win.
-
Well actually when you put it like that... I can see the point. Hope you had fun. See you next time in mayhem clash! Maybe?

9 AntwortenYou like playing with a team? Well... I like playing with my dad, and guess what? We have difficulty playing with each other because of the local fire team issues.... How does that even happen?!?!? The point of a game is to have fun playing with friends and family and I'm having troubles just getting together with my dad!! I know you're not the problem, as you take care of the community, not the game... But I would dearly love you to give a few nudges to the people who ARE working on this, that they might wake up and actually fix this... Also, I love Rift.... Especially in Iron Banner...

If only we had some kind of box with wheels following us along or maybe some kind of floating storage box to hold it then we wouldn't even need you.

2 AntwortenRift is my favorite gametype for similar reasons. Back in the Halo days, if I got the bomb or the flag, I was really good at being sneaky and getting a score. In Destiny my PvP playing was just awful. Then rift came out. The friends who had seen me aickong it up in clash and control were now saying "Wow, Oldboy, how the heck did you grab the spark in the middle of all that!?!?" & "I can't believe you were able to deliver the spark and score!" Its a good feeling to be a contributor to the team and start a match to hear "Okay guys, just let Oldboy grab the spark every time and they to get some kills."
