I'm 24 as well. I get better every time i practice (which fyi is extremely rare) and i get better every time i take long breaks. Also, if you are good with abc but still get beat by players using the same abc you are not good at using them generally. Now that is out of the way here is my reasoning and expertise. It could be a lot of factors, but it could be that FPS genre games are not easily compatible with your mindset. To have [u]a lot of potential in a first person shooter[/u] you have to... 1. Be able to make quick and accurate decisions and be able to analyze yourself and others. a. You must adapt week by week. b. You must be able to identify your weaknesses. c. Follow a training schedule that works for you (not for others). 2. You must be flexible when and not stubborn, keep an open mind. (especially when there are changes to the meta) 3. You must have an average reaction time on a stopwatch of about .3 seconds. Remember your brain sending a signal to your fingers to move your fingers takes time as well. Making a snap reaction either by muscle memory or instinct takes a long time to master. ( mine is about .13 but i've played sports such as American football, karate, judo, football, baseball, hockey, and even drag racing for 10 years to train this skill) [b]THIS SKILL IS UNCOMMON BUT IMPORTANT.[/b] a. This is because usually the time between 1 bullet hitting you in ANY first person shooter (Cod, halo, destiny, battlefield, Tom Clancy, Rainbow 6, etc.) to the next 1 bullet hitting you is normally equal to or less than the server latency which is commonly 30ms or less aka <.3 seconds. b. Thus, having a closer reaction time in general will mean your fight or flight response to gunfights will be on par with the differences in server latency. You will be able to make split decisions on instinct to either win a gunfight or remove yourself from a gunfight you cannot win. c. So long as there is not an increase in latency within a game mode, this benchmark will give you as much advantage as you can control. 4. You must be good at giving quick and accurate information to fellow teammates. Communication between you and your teammates is vital and can drastically change the results of a match. [b]THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT COMPETITIVE SKILL TO MASTER.[/b] 5. Follow audio cues. a. A super activing. b. Narrator callouts. c. Teammates callouts. d. heavy/special inbound. e. Enemy footsteps. 6. Use visiable cues. a. Highlighted targets if you have the proper scope or artifact. b. Damage numbers and color of damage numbers. Damage number differences between ranges. c. Location of teammates Vs Location of X-marked teammates aka dead teammates (helps you judge the spawns if the spawns are not fixed) e. Radar. If you have it abuse it. f. Trajectory of bullets. Knowing this you can bait an enemy into a gunfight against someone else or bait them into the open so you have clean shot AND THE FIRST SHOT. 7. Use height advantages. Always come from above and be able to visualize your character in a 3d space. Use all your space and you will become unpredictable in close range engagements. 8. Do not challenge a gunfight you know you cannot win. Be able to decide if your opponent has an overwhelming advantage. For example you know they have a rocket launcher in a enclosed environment and you want to mow them down with your auto rifle. The "Slayer MO" is "Kill! Keep killing and stay alive so you can keep killing". 9. Know shame, know your superiors and use it to your advantage. A lot of players refuse to acknowledge there are players who they know that are indeed better than them at game Y(lot of denials about this but I've played video games for 20 years). Do the following... a. Identify your superiors. b. Try to learn from them. How, why, where, what, and when etc. They like feeling superior, let them feel that way so that they teach you. USE THEM. c. Practice and mimic like a baby does until you master walking, then running then jumping etc until you are flying above them (metaphorically). 10. Remember, stats such as ELO, KDR and overall score are easy to obtain. [u]They give an estimate of a players potential but they are not reflective of their ability to win tournaments.[/u] Trust me, i've been on a 1.78 trials kdr since day 1 but i've recently boosted it to 2.30 just because i was sick of people making it a big deal. If you are good, you are good and stats can come afterwards.

I have dropped greatly to #541 on trials. Mainly cause I stopped playing it but was too 200. Yes reflexes are better the younger you are. But anticipation at and older age is key. Btw I'm 40 :-)

You are not alone dude, it's not you. It's that I myself enjoy using primaries but suck at using shotguns or snipers etc. Bungie had nerfed primaries to the point of being unusable. Only way you can outgun someone is with a scout rifle now or a good high rate of fire pulse like Grasp or Clever Dragon. But I notice when I play I get outgunned by the Clever Dragon because every scrub is using it because they are sheep and following the big streamers and padding those kd stats of theirs. If you think you are really good at pvp because you own a god roll Clever Dragon you are sadly mistaken. It's because every other primary is crap now and it's the only viable weapon that outperforms even most exotics and some legendaries. Now tell me how is that fair and shows skill? I know I must have triggered so many zombie following Clever Dragon users. I love it! You can laugh at my kd stats all you want I really don't care

I love TRIALS too. TRIALS is my my favorite game mode, especially when I am playing with my TRIALS buddies. [spoiler]kek[/spoiler]

I am 72 and have been playing Destiny for over a year, and the Crucible for a while. Trials isn't for me because I can't handle the speed of the other players. One thing that I have noticed is that the average players I run into seem to be getting better. You may just be facing stronger competition. I have also noticed more and more players using mod controllers. I have been in a game in which I was fairly sure that 3 of the opposing players had mods. You simply aren't going to do well against them, much less win. I am tempted to buy a mod myself so that when I hit another player with one, well, flip the switch. The day is coming where first person shooters will have to figure in mods when setting the parameters on their weapons. I read the advice of one of the players answering your post. It reads like really great advice. Try this game 48 years from now. You will get a good idea of what age has done to you. Nevertheless, you will probably find that it is still really fun to play.
