Why is it that every time someone's skill comes into question, the first thing I hear from someone is "Your crucible K/D sucks, so you suck"? Seriously, I heard someone say that to someone else in WotM the other day. Totally unrealated to the current situation.
EDIT: People were missing the point of the second paragraph and it was kind of porly written on my part, so I'm modifying it.
Basically:
There are people who don't really try in PVP that are good at PVE, and there are people who wreck in PVP that can't seem to grasp raids. So don't base your judgements of one on the other.
EDIT 2: Something I forgot to bring to light before despite being the primary reason my own K/D is lower than it ought to be (Thanks to BrassedoffDan for reminding me)-
You can easily get a good K/D by being in the back the whole game. But some of us aren't sissies. Some of us are AGGRESSIVE. We're going to break their lines, grab those crests, cap that Bravo objective, dunk that rift, or just straight up disrupt the enemy by any means necessary, and take down as many enemies as we can in the process! If being that shift in momentum and topping the team comes at the cost of a few more deaths, so be it. Guardians are immortal after all.
EDIT 3: There are three other K/D-affecting things I should mention.
1. Unbalanced teams- you know the games. Where you end up against a full team and your team is getting repeatedy wiped by teamshotting, pack memtality grenade spam, and super chains. One game wouldn't be so bad, but there are days when you need to get something done and you're just getting steamrolled every game. Speaking of which-
2. Bounty/quest grinding- Good example: When you really just want to get the thorn quest over with, mayhem isn't up, and all you have is a shotgun and a few smoke bombs.
3. Just generally not trying all the time- Maybe you are grinding the crucible while watching a funny youtube video snapped. Maybe you like to play drunk every once in a while. Maybe you're too tired to do good, but too awake to go asleep. Plenty more examples, I'm sure.
EDIT:
4. Dropping in mid match on a losing team and getting repeatedly slain by supers and heavy. Thanks Scrubbiest Scrub
Also, TexasJedi_705 pointed out this relevant and pretty funny video by Badass Gaming: link

I can be good in the Crucible at times, but I never had a positive K/D ratio though. So in the future, I'll be playing constantly.

3 AntwortenIs a 1.4 kd any good?
-
I actually used to play Drunk Destiny a lot.I even called it Drunk Destiny and posted every night on Facebook "Time to play Drunk Destiny!" Matter of fact,I was just looking through my Crimson Days elimination games and my k/d went from 1.55 to .22 in just a couple of hours. Apparently there are levels of suckitude I am prepared to accept. "I have a particular set of skills...oh wait,no I don't." I bet they never said that in Taken. "Well,I'd go get my daughter back from those sorry bastards, but I'm afraid I have to start drinking at 5pm sharp."

3 AntwortenBearbeitet von draycole: 11/2/2016 5:26:34 PMfor everyone saying kd is relevant can someone explain to me how some of the top halo players competing in multimillion dollar tournaments usually have kd's around 0.8 to 1.3? obviously they must be trash. so why are they on mlg?

1 AntwortenIf you want I grasp an individuals pvp skill I think the best determinate is their rumble kd. All the others are dependent upon teams. Rumble is easily the most competitive mode and best way to improve

Didn't realise that this was such a hot topic lately, But I think this video sums up most people's opinion on it.

5 AntwortenI just saw excuses. If you think k/d doesn't matter, you shouldn't do posts like this.

Bump. This is true. I have like a 1 KD and I think I'm pretty good at PvP. I do have REALLY bad games sometimes though; it could just be games that my team is just bad and they don't stick with each other and so it's always a 1v5.

3 AntwortenHonestly, a shit ton of people I've heard say this suck at the crucible. While it may not be the case for every single person, it is an indicator.

6 AntwortenBearbeitet von : ^ ): 11/1/2016 7:53:45 PMAlright, so let's debunk some things. "K/D doesn't mean shit. K/D can easily be inflated. K/D doesn't equal skill." Go take a look at all the best players. Guess what, chances are their stats are generally better than average. There's a reason for that. I used be a pretty big member of the Battlefield community and they tried so hard to put this stigma on K/D. And being an exceptionally high K/D player, I got to deal with this stigma a lot. So, we decided to do a little match up. A friendly scrimmage. One side would consist of higher K/D players against only lower K/D players. Their argument was always, " Oh, high K/D players get their stats because they don't play for the team. They only play for themselves and their stats. " Guess what the result was? Total obliteration. The low K/D players didn't even stand a chance. Also, a great member of that community decided to run some numbers. He found that systematically, that the higher K/D the player, the higher the win/loss. I guarantee right now, if you go look at past games, your winning teams have a higher collective K/D. This isn't every game, but majority of your games should yield this result unless other factors like Zone Control. Statistically, yes K/D does matter if you want to win. Now, on the topic of it mattering. That's personal perspective. If it doesn't matter to you, why bother to bring it up? It's a common occurrence, the people who preach that it doesn't matter seem to be more vocal than those that stat bash. It's pretty easy to avoid talking about stats. You just don't fire back. The more excuses you give for your stats, the more it looks like you care. All you have to do is not type or say a word and you avoid a pointless debate about stats. Gain some self control and you win. But there's no reason we need to keep a stigma for those that do care. If your opinion differs, that's great, that's what being human is. Just don't be ignorant is all.

1 AntwortenThere seems to be a common misconception here. People seem to think that there are only 2 playstyles: aggressive, and passive. While this is somewhat true, aggressive doesn't mean you have to blindly run in somewhere and get shotgun kills. It seems to me that many people think this way, and they actually think that you are more valuable to the team if you do this. What it seems like people don't realize is that there is another playstyle, and that is simply playing smart. There are times when you need to be more aggressive and there are times to be a little more passive. Being able to recognize how or when you adapt is much more important than blindly running in the middle of everyone expecting to get a breaker medal with a Matador. It's also better than staying behind everyone and always trying to keep yourself from dying in every engagement; it sounds a little counter intuitive, but playing too passive can actually result in a lower k/d since you might die while running away when you could have killed someone before they landed that last shot on you. TL;DR Playing smart is a playstyle that is different from being simply passive or aggressive. Being aggressive while also being cautious and utilizing all of your equipment to get out of certain situations will make you a more valuable player of the team than being strictly passive or aggressive.

8 AntwortenIn pvp... I'll admit K/D is relevant. However, it depends how you play. If you are aggressive you can actually help your team with captures and defends... however, you may only have a 1 K/D. If you sit back and kill whore, you may have a great K/D but it doesn't help your team capture a zone. I've done several tests... I can easily K/D whore in a game, but we most always lose. When I cap zones and play aggressive, my team benefits and we win.

I agree. Sort of. K/D is a relevant part of the game and can be an indication of skill. I agree that many people are a bit too reliant on it and use it as a shortcut for Trials matchmaking. Ultimately, KA/D is much more relevant. Especially for Trials purposes. Bottom line though is that K/D shouldn't be something that you are chasing as an indicator of if you're good or not. You can easily increase your map knowledge, understanding of team tactics and situational awareness in order to become a significantly better player without seeing any difference in K/D for some time.

I play agressive and mainly with primaries. I rarely kill with special weapons and only have more kills with abilities than with my primaries with my voidwalker. Don't really give a damn about kd, do give a damn about having fun. I've had had games with 0.05 kd and with 14.0 kd. So what? It's a game :D

1 Antwortenobjectives don't mean much if you give the enemy 20 kills trying to cap them...except in maybe supremacy. The real MVP is going those things and getting lots of kills while limiting their deaths.

7 AntwortenK/D to me always tells me that they hide in a corner. The higher the K/D the more you sit with a shotgun crying and waiting. LMFAO!!!

1 AntwortenBearbeitet von Forgotten: 11/2/2016 3:35:46 PMMy average KDR is 2.8 and i'm often told i suck. So yes, it doesn't matter people are just toxic sometimes, but most of the time players are ignorant.

15 AntwortenBearbeitet von Shylows: 11/1/2016 10:41:49 PMJust because somebody is good at a raid, doesn't mean they are automatically good at pvp, raids are not hard. However, if somebody is a competent pvp player, I can almost guarantee that they would perform well in pve. For example, I have a player who wants to join my raid group, they have multiple raid completions but a shitty k/d, I can assume that they are somewhat competent and that they understand the mechanics of the raid, but are most likely "that guy" who dies on the fourth cycle on Aksis and blames it on "them damn shanks", when in reality they have no thumbs. Now let's say I also have another player looking to join, they have a really good k/d but no raid experience, now because of their k/d I can already assume that they can kill shit and not die, AKA the entire point of destiny. All that's left to do is teach them the mechanics of the raid, which they can grasp fairly easily because they would already have experience with teamwork and coordination from being a competent pvp player. It only makes sense to choose the pvp player in this scenario, because they are overall better at Destiny. Go look at the pvp stats of all the best pve players (ex. Slayerage, Tfue, Giggle Monster). They are all very good players. Pve in this game is not hard, if you believe that you are sadly mistaken, pvp is the only thing in this game which truly separates the good players from the bad ones. TL;DR Pve is easy, pvp is not. Therefore your pvp k/d in most cases determines your skill as a player.
-
9 AntwortenA below average ratio certainly matters. It shows that someone has below average aiming skills and is slow to target. Which is a huge pain in the ass when you're depending on a below average player to complete whatever task they are responsible for in a raid. So yes, KD does matter.
-
2 AntwortenSums up another way here. The other day I played Rumble. Won the match by 400 points, had a k/d of 1.1, or something like that. Guys I trashed had k/ds like 1.6, 1.7 etc. But I got about 23 kills to 22 deaths. Sure my k/d was bad. But I played hard and I won.
-
2 AntwortenAlso these kd junkies can farm kd in trials, play three games, delete card, rinse and repeat
-
When I play pve I go big dick and have fun(besides raids) and I only really go hard in trials.
-
3 Antworten........ Really... If you don't care about your k/d, I don't think you should be able to make decisions on the competitive game-scheme. If you don't care about your k/d then you shouldn't post about something being OP or needing nerfs.
-
8 AntwortenMy K/D is .75 and I've heard people say it sucks. That's a good KD for me. I'm a PVE player mostly so they assume I care
-
1 Antworten*Doesn't care about their KD* *Makes a post explaining why they don't care*
.-.
