So I don't know when this happened (maybe sometime around 1 P.M. E.S.T this past Friday?), but I am seeing all over the forums that the radar is now considered a crutch relied on by people who think they are elite (but are actually terrible at this game in every possible way). Apparently, using an in-game mechanic that helps to make up for terrible audio cues is now considered "being a crutch player." These forums never fail to make my brain nice and toasty.
Edit 1: LOL we're somehow trending. Might respond to some of you, might not, IRDK. Have quite a bit of shit to do, so we'll see what happens.
Edit 2: I need to make this clear. At it's current state this game is shit, and I'm trying to avoid playing it because I need my sanity to finish my final paper. I was just interested in what people had to say about the topic. I do not have an opinion on the matter. Really couldn't care less at this point. But I do think they really need to look at more detailed audio cues in Destiny 2 if they truly are considering a "competitive" gameplay, regardless of what they do with the radar.

1 AntwortenAnyone who believes it's a crutch and is doing well all of a sudden should invite me to play a private rumble with them. No HUD. Knowing how many rounds you have left or if your super is charged is a crutch as well.

Starting to slowly dislike this community more and more...

A radar is best thought of as a passive ability. And no radar just means you have to adjust your playstyle. It's both hilarious and sad to see people who have been thinking they were great players start complaining that they can't deal with inferno style trials. LOL.

No proper audio cues and no radar at 30fps.... I'm sorry. In that context, there's several other games I'd play instead of Destiny, even if they didn't have ''the crutches''. People who do worse without radar are more experienced and better players than those who play about the same if radar is enabled or not. Why? Because they understand how core Destiny mechanics work, and use them to their fullest. If you're someone who runs around in radar-enabled modes, and you don't pay attention to the radar...then you're simply not going to be as effective as someone who does. And IF you're not taking the time to learn those mechanics, it could be said that you're also someone who doesn't aspire to improve. It's rare to be skilled at Destiny pvp when you start out, so without a mindset for improvement, you're not going to be magically talented enough to hold a candle next to those that play regularly and spend the time to exploit the mechanics of the game. That being said, you give those two arch-types of players enough time (without radar), the player that strives to improve will eventually outskill the thralls.

1 AntwortenThe radar is a specific condition that favors a specific game play and rules out others. It is not a crutch per se. Playing well in those specific conditions obviously takes a certain skill. However those certain conditions at the same time can work to the detriment of people who have skills that rely more on stealth and maneuvering. So it isn't inherently one thing or another. However... ...when people start to argue that people who are good in no radar conditions lack skill and start whining about not being able to see what the opponent does...THEN radar has obviously been used as a crutch.

Bearbeitet von Parker2Underpar: 10/31/2016 6:26:10 PMIf you're like me, knowing that the radar is there has made me concentrate on it far too often, sometimes focusing on the red flashes more than the environment around me. It felt liberating that it was gone, allowing me to appreciate the intricacies of actual war games with cover and tactics for the first time. Not saying one way is is better, but different in quite refreshing in my book.

2 AntwortenTo be fair there are idiots who have called Hard Light and NLB a crutch as well, so take it all with a grain of salt.
-
There's lots more people complaining than people saying the radar is a crutch.

10 AntwortenSome people can't function without it and it's very apparent in this trials. so yeah. I think It is.

I like there being no radar sometimes. It lets you play a stealth game.

a light in these dark and spooky forums, thank you OP

I wouldn't say crutch, just a 3 year old habit

What if my gameplay is crippled by bad internet, mindless shotgunning apetards, juggernaut pansies, 3 to 5 Stormcallers on the opposing team every match (all with Gjallarhorns) circle jerking with their dumb artifact, and people spamming sticky grenades or tracking grenades? I think I just covered at least 90% of the pvp community. Still not acceptable for me to rely on so called "crutches"? GTFO

It's not a crutch. It just shows that SOME players are absolute garbage when all they have to rely on is their own reflexes and perception.
-
It actually always was a crutch. One that I abuse as frequently as possible…

hey man, if you are not playing with actual crutches to manipulate your controller then you are a crutch using scrub. in fact, you have to play with a Nintendo bongo drum controller modified for use with your preferred system with those real crutches to not be a scrub.

First off, radar bring a crutch is bull, radar is meant to show where your enemies are. Second off
(insert reason here)
This is funny. And why I do feel that radar is a crutch, I don't mind so much that Destiny uses it in PvP. I mean, both sides have it so at least the crutch is balanced?
-
8 AntwortenIt's not. But people think since they won a few matches in trials that they're some kind of pro.

4 AntwortenBearbeitet von Cypher02xd: 10/31/2016 5:33:44 PMI certainly wouldn't go as far as to call it a crutch. I'm of two minds on this one: On the one hand: Having no radar does force you to play differently and be more aware of your surroundings. Whether or not this makes you better is up for debate. I ran into a few teams this weekend that camped corners the whole time or kept going invisible to try and shotgun you. Extremely annoying to deal with, not to mention the people hiding up in stupid ass places you wouldn't see (I'm looking at your -blam!-ers hiding up on the box things). I'd probably enjoy this more if we had more audio cues such as hearing footsteps. on the other: in a game like Destiny that is so centered around the radar, to remove it is almost silly. Even with radar to be successful it requires map awareness and team work. In a game like COD for example, if your team is doing well you'll have radar a large portion of the game through UAV's so you're not truly without it all the time. That said... I don't personally find it enjoyable the way that it was this weekend. I hate inferno with a passion because of the people always camping corners and hiding in dumb ass spots. Do all teams do this? Of course not but it just wasn't fun for me.

5 AntwortenYou stupid noobs. If you were a real hardcore player like me you wouldn't even need to turn the console on. I can go flawless in trials by putting my disc in the microwave.

I used to get the best angles, but now there's someone waiting in a corner to shotty me in the back.
