my team mates and I have been gaming together for the past 13 years, over the course of many games together. (mostly halo) We have been playing destiny together since it came out, and in year 1 of trials we managed to go to the lighthouse a good amount of times together. when year 2 rolled around , for whatever reasons, we struggled badly. we would always get to game 8 at 8-0 and then proceed to get stomped our last 2 games to go to the lighthouse. (includes boon)
I would be lying if i said we didnt find it frustrating, we knew going in we would be playing guys far above our skill level, it seemed the way trials worked in year 1 vs year 2 as far as match ups was a lot different.
yr3 rolls around and again we start off the same as last, getting to 8-0 and losing out to not make it to the light house.
This past weekend we gave it a run like we always do. We quickly managed to get to 8-0 and knew a buzz saw game was coming, sure enough our next game was brutal, we lost 5-3 and had used our loss boon and had to do it on the next game.
the next game starts and we are quickly down 4-1, another buzz saw game. this time we fought back, changed our strat a little and with a little luck came back and won 5-4.
With all of our team turning 40 this year it was satisfying to still be able to make it to the lighthouse. We have far to much pride to be carried by someone, which makes it that much sweeter.
you're never to old to compete!
as for loot
I got a Adept Vision Stone, Sweet Cape, An awesome fancy banner and an exotic helm
as a side note
our team had only been to the light house 15 total times, the guys we played had 110 flawless trips
2 of there guys had over a 2.0 kd with their 3rd hovering around 1kd
our best guy has 1.6 kd, i have a 1.45 and our 3rd has a 1.3-1.5 kd
Edit:
there have been a number of comments about 40 being not being old, I will agree the 40 is not old in and of itself. In fact I dont feel old at all, ive been gaming since i was on atari, and have competed in many MLG Halo Tournaments when I was younger, the point is that in the "Competitive" side of gaming the older you get the harder it is to keep up with younger generations, its a fact. Look at all pro fps team out there and name how many 40 year old teams are out there winning events, you dont see it. As you get older your quick twitch skills slow way down, and staying competitive takes far more work than a 15,16,17,18 year old kid.

1 AntwortenAwesome story. Trials even without the lag issues is its own monster. Kudos to the team 😁

Good job man! Considering I'm 16 and you've done more successful passages than me, I think you're still pretty quick (granted I could just suck. . . Which is likely) but overall congratulations! Especially considering that you probably have less time to play
-
Congrats guys. That's really awesome. You must have been going crazy when you won. My team consists of 2 decent players and a .4. I don't know if we'll ever get there.
-
Way to go, ya old farts. I'm 37 and have gone flawless a few times myself.

1 AntwortenAwesome stuff! I'm glad you made it! It must have been a great feeling to come back from a 1 to 4 situation! That is such an ampped feeling! Keep it up and I wish you luck!

5 Antworten24 year old makes it to the lighthouse. My teammates and I have been gaming for zero minutes, we met right off LFG. We thought we'd give trials a try. Ended up going flawless first try without even using the mercy boon. Just thought I'd post here and let you all know because I went flawless so I'm now a special snowflake.

What does it matter how old you are, I know 10yr olds - 50 yr olds that have gone light house, get over yourself lol

2 Antworten2 year old, just had nappy time and went flawless. Felt like I should brag because of my age, even tho no one cares.
-
2 AntwortenIt's not the age... It's the lack of time due to having kids, Work, life etc. As long as us older guys don't get arthritis... Once we hit that point in life where our list of responsibilities go down, we can play enough to hone our skills once again!

2 AntwortenIf you weren't playing PvP with Charles Babbage and Ada Lovelace, you're not old.
#parody
2 AntwortenHelped a 76-year old man last weekend go to the Lighthouse. He was extremely grateful

3 AntwortenI went flawless yesterday (first time in y3) and it was just like y2. Laggers and/or cheaters everywhere. We lost our mercy at round 4/5 to some unkillable redbars. Then in round 8 we encountered invincible redbars again and were back 4-0. This made me quite mad and i played just like in year 1, went in, jumped around, shot the lagging idiots. After 4-3 they didn't even come out of their spawn ... And then we won it 5-4. Match 9 was the same as usual, won that and went to the lighthouse. Lag ruins this game.

1 AntwortenThis is cool to see. :) I always laugh when younger people think anything older than 25 is "old". In addition, it's always amusing when people don't realize that a 15 year old can learn quicker and react quicker than someone with more age. Glad you guys got to the lighthouse! Congratulations!

1 AntwortenHave you seen the movie "40 Year Old Virgin"?

1 AntwortenBearbeitet von Noir Renard: 10/18/2016 7:40:07 PMTrials is a hit or miss. You need to have a good team, then be a good cordinated team, you should be max level because in the high rounds they will be and if you don't have the meta or at least some god tier weapons your good with you need to go grind. Then it's luck after that, are you going to hit true vangard with an ace team, are you going to hit a quickscoper doing a carry, will they be way over your teams skill level even or below. Trials can be seen as a numerical game mode. Some will go flawless over and over and over and over again with little to no competition, some will go flawless every week but generally play for it, some go flawless every once and awile but it takes alot of effort, some it will go flawless if there lucky after playing 100 to 200 cards in a row and then there's the rest who need a carry. Most people are the last 3. Good notes is thoroughly examine the every trials map, make sure there is a sniper on your team who good. Sorry but your handi capping yourself if you dont. Have good guns that you don't suck with. ( no a suros is not good even if your good with it) play with the same team, randoms arnt going to cut it normally. Callouts can save the day but that dosen't excuse a death. keep trying. It make take you a couple hundred cards to go flawless but you can do it. Be able to use your primary but get good with your special weapon, crucible is a special weapons game mode and also try to have fun, I'm not going to give you the stay confident and positive pep talk, it's hard after losing 20 cards in a row. Lastly remember it IS JUST A GAME, you will run into max level all flawless armor and ornament gear with the best weapons with god tier role that will one shot you from 3 times the distance of anything you have on your first game. It happenes, sucks, go get a new card. And just try again.

1 AntwortenCongratulations and well done! A few weeks short of 48 and this one is still on my list of goals for Destiny. Super impressive that you guys did this together, hope it was a blast! :)

1 AntwortenHey I like your clan name lol but congrats. It is a grueling effort to get past the sweaties there in the end. Except sometimes it is not. I've had harder first matches than last matches before. Which is weird.

1 AntwortenCongratulations! :)

9 AntwortenBearbeitet von Cowhand7: 10/18/2016 2:22:05 PMI can tell there are a lot of people who are posting who have no idea what age does to you In my fifties, I was benching 315 and squatting 405 for 4 sets of 10 reps. I could rep 225 for 22-25 times. Lots of young football players cannot do that weight for that many reps. So, the point here is that you can still put on muscle and maintain strength at that age. I eventually hurt my shoulder and had trouble with my joints, so my ability to do heavy weights declined in my 60s. Somewhere in my early 60s, I lost the ability to go up to 315 and I stopped trying to lift heavy for a one rep maximum. In March of last year, I finished a decline bench exercise, got up, and almost fell out on the floor. To make a long story short, my heart had decided to beat at 200 beats a minute. The medicine they put me on made me have shortness of breath, and I have not been able to really work out since. In December, I will have an operation to fix the problem, and hopefully, will be back in the gym to start the process of lifting weights from where I am now to where I can go at this age. That is a worthy goal. Now, I started playing Destiny at 70, and simply no longer have the reflexes nor eye-hand coordination to be a good player. I regularly get slaughtered in the Crucible and IB by people who in real life, had tried to shame me or spout their mouth off to me, would have been sent to the hospital. The thing that you need to realize is that as you age your abilities will decrease dramatically. Anyone who can compete with younger players in a fast action game like Destiny certainly deserves respect and honor. If you don't realize people who are older than you deserve respect, your mothers failed you. You also aren't using good sense. You never know who you are spouting off too. If you don't believe the points I am making, just wait until you get older and see how you do. The decline happens to all of us.
