In the current meta, high rate of fire low impact weapons are at the top.
Grasp, being the fastest firing pulse archtype, can reliably 3-4 burst an enemy in PVP.
The Hawksaw archtype (Blind Perdition, Outbreak Prime, etc) also reliably 3 bursts an enemy, occasionally taking 4.
The Nirwen's Mercy archtype (Hopscotch Pilgrim, Reflection Sum, NTTE) is a solid 3 burst kill.
The Spare Change archtype (Parthian Shot, Messenger) is also a very reliable 3 burst kill, with the very occasional 2 burst kill.
See the problem here? Almost all archtypes of pulse rifles can 3 burst an enemy. So why even use the high impact low RoF ones when you can do the same thing with a faster firing one? Using a low RoF pulse requires very good thumb work and precision; players that are skilled should be rewarded for using such a slow rate of fire weapon.
On top of that, getting a high impact pulse rifle to drop with a good roll is very rare and hard to come by. For the Parthian Shot or Spare Change to even be worth using, they at least need Counterbalance for their horrible horizontal recoil.
For these reasons, I believe that the high impact archtype of pulse rifles need a buff. They currently do 34 to the head, 23 to the body. A buff to them doing maybe 36-38 damage to the head would significantly help them get a more reliable 2 burst kill.
What do you guys think? I hope to see this change as it would make this class of weapon more usable in PVP.

Agreed. They were never OP to begin with. I was an avid user of the ORIGINAL Y1 Hopscotch Pilgrim. People cried OP, but the people who crying about it 1. Did not get 1 2. Mained Thorn/TLW in PVP exclusively. High Impact needs to go back to 38 to head, They are sadly at a disadvantage. If you miss a head shot against a Grasp, you are done. I am an avid Pulse Rifle fan and have been since Three Little Words/Super Pox/Fair and Square but the Clever Dragon is slowly ruining balance in PVP. We will see more once the weapons drops in IB and can be purchased. High ROF should not be able to obtain almost perfect stability.

4 AntwortenThe reason fast fire rate weapons are at the top is because missing a shot or two isn't a deal breaker. High impact has a similar time to kill, but if you miss even one bullet, there's a big gap before the next one is fired. High rate can just instantly pick up where it left off. Not sure how to counter that, but that's my take.

1 AntwortenSame with most weapons in the game. High rof guns need way less range and stability too.

Bump, we're just asking for balance here,

Bearbeitet von Boatman6: 10/14/2016 2:45:05 AMI have a god roll hopscotch pilgrim but it is basically useless because it gets out shot by high RoF pulses most if the time.

Bearbeitet von Erijian: 10/14/2016 3:11:45 AM24 to the body and 36 to the head would be fine. That'd make them able to two burst, while giving you the leniency of one body shot in between those two bursts. 38 to the head would be bad though, that's how they were before the nerf and it allowed two body shots between your two bursts which was a little too forgiving with perks like headseeker which brought it to either three or four allowed body shots.
Though to be honest, the Grasp and Hawksaw archetypes both need nerfs. Grasp should be pushed to 3.3 bursts to kill, and the Hawksaw should be where the Grasp is currently.
I absolutely 100% agree with this post. It only makes sense The only exception is if you were only making this post because you just got an amazing roll on a low rate of fire pulse rifle LOL
-
4 AntwortenWas sad to see spare change .25 wasn't pushed into year 3 crucible drops. That's my favorite PvP gun. Headseeker and glass half full with counter balance. Amazing. But with the current meta it's tough to get kills with low rate of fire high impact pulse rifles. Would love to see a little change in that. Been using parthian shot for now which is good but tough to use too because If you miss one bullet then you're dead. High risk high reward I guess.

1 AntwortenThey just need a rate of fire buff a bit...

high rof pulses are for scrubs

9 AntwortenWho remembers when messenger came out?
-
2 AntwortenYeah, especially with annoying burst patterns on guns like the Spare Change that also fire so slow that you can't afford to miss a burst or you are dead. Spare Change is great for stealing kills in Crucible but I hate going solo with it versus someone with a Grasp: I stick to my fastest RoF archetype pulses like 123 Syzygy, Coiled Hiss 1919, the rerollable Conduit, or the old IB pulse whose name escapes me at the moment. I'll happily take a hit to my Light level in IB in order to outgun Grasp users with my Y1 pulses. ;P But I really miss being able to melt people with the OG Hopscotch: it's just not the same anymore. :(

5 AntwortenCan we also get a buff for high impact low RoF hand cannons

6 AntwortenI'm thinking a root of the problem is the fact that, there's no middle ground between a 3burst kill, and a 2burst kill. fast rifles were 3burst, slow ones were 2burst, but then people said 2burst was OP, but since you can't 'only slightly' nerf them to say, 2.5burst, they had to be 3burst, which is just too heavy of a nerf IE- the nature of bursts being Integers, is the limitation in why pulses can't be properly balanced Suggestion then for an alternative approach: what if different archetypes had different size bursts? (like hakke) perhaps this could allow more leeway for balance? Suppose, Low Rof High Impact fired 4 bullets in it's burst instead of 3? but fired them in the same amount of time as they currently do 3 (ie, behave like a hakke, but without the stupid hakke delay time) by splitting the DPS into 4 bullets instead of 3, there could be more forgiveness for missing part of the burst... and more room to tweak the quantization of damage per burst
-
Completely agree #bumpism
-
8 AntwortenThere isn't really anything to be done about them in PvP with this current damage model. Not every gun needs to be viable in PvP. Every other archetype is solid in PvP currently. Every auto rifle and scout rifle can be used effectively as well. The slow pulse rifles are the only outlier, but you still have 3 archetypes to choose from.
-
And autos
-
Shit at least there are Pulse Rifles that are useful. Meanwhile, Auto Rifles need a buff across the board.
-
1 AntwortenSo your plan to make high rate pulses less broken is to make the entire pulse class insanely effective . K
-
It's not just the High Impact ones that need a buff the entire spectrum of archetypes needs a rebalance when All take 3 bursts then there's no reason to use anything but Malok/Waltz Hawksaw and Nirwens aren't nearly as bad as Messenger, but they too will Lose to Malok, and should also be addressed eventually
-
6 AntwortenI can't believe we've come full circle as far as metas go... Don't know if lmao or smh is more appropriate
-
Same with auto rifles
-
Your right auto rifles need a buff
