I don't think there's anything in those crates, they're just for show. However, I understand what you mean in terms of most of the map being empty. When Iron Banner comes to an end on Tuesday, I suspect they will close off that area again completely until next month, which I think would be a mistake. There's lots of real estate there that could be augmented to give Felwinter more stuff to do, such as: * Turning the atrium adjacent to Efrideet into a social area for clan recruitment; * Moving the Eververse terminal to the atrium, making its current location a space for Xur; * Populating the landing platform near the Gondola Station into a permanent spot for SRL; * Adding Hive/Devil Splicer spawns along the ridgeline outside the base, auto-turrets to the Gondola Station, and expanding terrain to explore beneath the mountain - making that region a separate, small area for combat.
