If our weapons and armor don't carry over, as long as our Guardian's appearance and Factions standings are then I am slightly OK with that.

That's about the minimum i'd be willing to accept also. Gear comes and goes but faction rankings would truly be a way to see your standing when its all over. People who join in years after other players wouldnt be able to catch up even with material donations and such. It shouldn't be a problem starting Destiny 2 with a high faction rank since it doesn't count towards what you get from them anyway. You would just be getting to buy things from them a few days earlier than new players who need to get to rank 3 lol. An occasional quest for a "lost legendary weapon" that turns out being an exotic like they did with the Khovostov would be nice. Something like in year 5 or so getting a quest to find an exotic fatebringer for example. Lots of things can be done to deal with the loss of our favorite gear, but if we all start everything over at 0 with all new guardians I would seriously reconsider my devotion to the game. An emblem might be ok going from one year to the next in the same game but it wont cut it moving from one game to another. I started playing Destiny almost exclusively based on the idea my guardian and my progress were going to matter and be counted in a long cycle of games. All other games started feeling like a pointless waste of time and I kept thinking I needed to get back into Destiny. That has never happened on a console before and it was really exciting to think it was happening. Just like WoW players who have been playing characters for 10 years. If they throw that all away and hand us an emblem and some low level green gear we wont use past level 10 or some other such nonsense I would most likely not trust them enough to pour more time into Destiny 2. Our characters basically can not die and the story is nowhere near finished so what could possibly warrant a complete restart. I dunno...getting a little nervous lol.
