This is mainly a summation of my frustration since returning to Destiny last month.
Ive seen whiner/salty posts previously claiming that Bungie is manipulating games so that one side has an advantage over the other, etc. I hope this post does not come off that way. I just have some serious questions that hopefully the community and people with similar experiences might be able to shed some light on.
I am not a great PvPer, but I'm not terrible either. I feel confident enough with my "skill level" to know when I lost a gunfight or got outsmarted vs when something was awry (lag or w/e). However, recently it feels as if something more sinister I guess is at play.
Some matches I will come out on top, some on the very bottom. Some with a high kd/r, some with a pitiful one. Fluctuation is natural when you're up against different people. Lately it feels like the fluctuation is far too much to be a simple disparity in skill levels or connections.
For instance, I can get a 4+ kd/r in one match and we absolutely stomp the opposition, but not enough to break our group up. Next match will be nearly the same lobby minus one person and then our team loses by an even larger number and my kd/r is like .3 and my teammates are also negative, while the opposing team that we just crushed is all positive. That lobby gets broken up and the cycle continues.
It seems there is some sort of algorithm causing a 1 win 1 loss cycle. Winning a match by a lot, breaking up, then getting destroyed the next one or getting thrown into the losing side of a match 99% of the way completed.
This is not even to mention all the nonsense that seems to happen when it appears one side has the "advantage". Getting shot through walls too frequently for P2P lag to be the only cause, phantom bullets, guys surviving full on shotguns to the head while only losing 1/4 health, some guns turning to marshmallow shooters while others turn into rocket launchers.
Would just like some community feedback and to see if others are experiencing this. Because this is not fun PvP. Destiny PvP always had its shortcomings, but at the very least it was usually fun and entertaining. This is just frustrating.

I'm so glad your wrote this. I have literally been asking myself about this for a long time thinking it was just me and I am insanely inconsistent. But when I am getting beaten to a pulp there are always moments where I melee a guardian who has a sliver of health and they don't die and I just stare blankly in confusion. I have many other examples similar to yours. But I never really thought about it the way you are. But now that I am... I absolutely agree with you. I literally am unstoppable one match and then struggle to get one kill the next. I'm not anywhere near the best but it does seem very uneven to me.

11 AntwortenThe "damage referee" allows Bungie to mess with individual players to such a degree that no conspiracy theory regarding manipulation is too crazy. I will go 24-1, then my next game Ill be hitting people in the chest with a rocket for 2 damage. Hawksaw headshots hitting for 8 damage. Etc etc. I can count all the total times I've been red bar on one hand. My connection is excellent. There's no question that they manipulate certain players at certain times in order to attempt to achieve "equality", no matter how unequal the opponents are.

You should some of the things that happen to me with my kd. Specifically in trials yesterday when I was trying to carry my two friends. I had never been joked harder in my whole life..... I cried :'(
-
2 AntwortenAnd for this specific reason I usually go into crucible with a full 6 man team and stomp the opposition
-
2 AntwortenPreach it, I'm no god at pvp, but I think Bungie nerfs us above average players to appease the more casual player..
-
3 AntwortenI have certainly noticed an increase in damage taken and a decrease in damage dealt some times, lately it's been me getting one shoted by stuff that just shouldn't, lots of melees and grenades from all classes seem to be killing me from full health, also guns needing an extra shot or two then normal, the game hates on you sometimes lol
-
Right there with you and as someone said earlier, I saw this alot 2 IBs ago. It was atrocious. I really hope they are seeing this in their playtests.
-
1 AntwortenWe all know this is real. So the question is, has anyone found a way to cheat the system? Not talking about lag switching or any sort of hack or anything that could result in a ban, but rather, some way of throwing off the manipulation to where it goofs up and equates to a fair match and perhaps more consistent gameplay regarding k/d?
-
Agreed. I suck enough at pvp to see these trends. Also, Im not sure if it's lag or algorithm but even using a weapon like tlaloc...there are matches where the firing rate and damage seem nerfed resulting in a WTF is going on?" reaction.
-
I can say I've noticed the exact trend you have as well. It was very apparent during the last Iron Banner. It was stomp everything for two games, then get trashed for 3-4. Not much grey area either. You're either zero or hero.
-
What I feel is that in each match depending on the connections, hit detection varies a lot. In one game all my shots would connect and in another enemies would seem like they dun lose health at all.
-
3 AntwortenI have noticed something similar inside a match... One team is up 4-5000 and things become really ineffective until the score balances. By ineffective I mean shots arent registering until the score balances out and then the massacre restarts again. It feels like a switch was flipped on then off.... I've been on both sides of this "algorythmic anomaly" many times. Maybe I should run a 6th level diagnostic though it would probably be tacheon pulses causing the anomaly... Or its the invisible hand of RNG balancing matches.... Or maybe my spinfoil hat has a hole in it.... I dunno, but I noticed something....
-
Of course it is. SBMM in connection with the "We want all of you to have a 0,9-1,1 winrate!" manipulates öiterally everyone of your games.
-
1 AntwortenMatches are predetermined if you play solo... that is what sucks with destiny, if you manage to win the game you were supposed to lose oh god have mercy on your soul. Because next games you will get the worst of the worst teammates possible. I got teammates that one went 1-19 Second one went 3-19 Third one 0-12 Other two went 0.5kd Needless to say we barely lost thanks to the double cap in control but still this is why you need pvp friends just to avoid this bungies predetermined matches :p
-
This is exactly how I started seeing PvP a while back. Glad I'm not the only one.
-
It's called SBMM (skill based match making). It made the top 3 list for dumbest things ever added to this game. See that red bar you're up against? That person lives 8999 miles away from you. You matched into his/her Lobby because you just won a game and it was the closest match to your skill level at that time. Have fun!
-
It's a very noticeable trend and anyone denying this probably just plays with a full fireteam at irregular times. I noticed it and at first was very dismissive of the inclination that some algorithm had a part in these odd wax and wain kd trends. I'm curious, not suspicious... Just what in the hell is this?
-
It is impossible to improve with sbmm. The point of pvp is to get matched with anyone, no matter if, skill level, etc.(except for connection) however with skill based matchmaking, it is super hard to do well because of sweaty players. It's insane how focused you have to be to do good in pvp.
-
1 AntwortenYes, they do intentionally manipulate the algorithm that does the matchmaking. They created it, everything about this game is intentional, don't let them make you think otherwise. It's no coincidence that if you have a good game, you get crushed for 2-3 games. They even say as much 'we're breaking up these teams to find a better match'. What do you think that means?
-
2 AntwortenI'm not saying this to be mean but this reads like tinfoil hat ranting. Why would they want to manipulate matches like that? I've yet to see anyone post something that answers that question that actually makes sense.
-
Same happens to me, it's a bunch of bs. But what can we do, corporations will never stop rigging the system. ;)
-
Bearbeitet von Gunman: 9/3/2016 2:59:10 AMAnd just one point bieng made from day one the game is broken on many different levels . Casual players won't see it as clear as people who have a shit tone of time in the game I love the game but it bieng broken hurts
-
Totally agree if you destroy a team the next match you either have garbage teammates were if you don't carry the team gets destroyed
-
This explains a lot, Bungie owes me a controller, and a refund on my anger management classes...

2 AntwortenDestiny's pvp is by far some of the worse pvp I've ever played. It's just a lag fest. Legit, I've killed people and said out loud "wow, I shouldn't have come out on top of that, but okay" because I saw the bullshit that screwed them over. Hell, I've watched my bullets hits a guy through a wall because of the lag.
