I don't know if this will work or not, but I heard that it did for TTK's April update. I have about 10 gold engrams and quite a few legendary and sublime engrams stashed in the vault and postmaster, waiting for the new expansion to turn in and get new exotics (especially warlock legs). I don't plan to cash them in immediately, but will wait until I level up a bit and then turn them in.
If it works, I'll have some shiny new stuff; if it doesn't. I'll have some exotic shards which I sorely need. Win-win.
Anyone else going to try this?
EDIT: 24 hours later, most replies are of the belief that it won't work the way it did in April, due to that being an update rather than an expansion. This may very well be, but I see nothing to lose from trying.
I'm still sticking with my plan, since even if the engrams decrypt as old gear, they should (fingers crossed) be consistent with my new, higher light level. They will also rapidly boost my cryptarch level and yield new gear that way. I've even started letting blue engrams stack up a bit at the postmaster.
Thanks, everyone, for the replies.

I've got over 150 legendaries and exotics saved.

Saving legendary sublime and exotics. Along with 400 3oC's. Harvest all strange coin and motes of light too
-
I'm saving yellows as well I have about 15 saved up
-
1 AntwortenNo I don't want to get everything first day then get bored because I have everything
-
No room, saving 3oc, strange coins, motes, and heavy ammo instead.
-
1 AntwortenNo. Just you kid...just you.
-
What are gold engrams? Is that what little kids are calling exotic engrams nowadays? Lazy
-
Lmao exotic warlock boots!
gr8 b8 m8
-
Or you'll do is power level the cryptarch, you won't get any new gear as you would have earned the engrams pre update, meaning the year 3 items are not in those engrams loot table
-
It does not work. I did that for the last two expansions and got garbage after the expansions released.
-
This is a joke right ?
-
2 Antwortenthis has been done with every expansion to destiny and it hasn't worked yet. why do people still insist on trying to do this? it's nothing but a waste of time and a cryptarch boost.

All u will be doing us raising your cryptarchblues level. All those engrams will be old shit. It's never worked and never will. Have fun with your legendary marks and exotic shards
-
The engrams won't be RoI exotics lol
-
1 AntwortenYou will most likely NOT get new gear. The reason it worked within TTK is because there was never a change to the version of the game (i.e. like vanilla, TDB, HoW, then TTK). There were only updates that added new content, but kept the version the same. RoI will bring with it a bunch of new gear, but in a different version of the game, so those engrams you have now will most likely decode into gear that was available when you collected them. What MIGHT happen (and that a big "might" for a reason) is that the decoded exotic engrams could potentially turn into something from TTK but at a light level higher than 335 (since light levels are going up with ROI). If that doesn't happen, you'll end up leveling the cryptarch a few times and could get a new legendary or exotic from the packages. Keep saving them, but don't get your hopes up.
-
It won't get you any of the new ROI gear, but it'll help level your Cryptarch.

I did just in case. Last time with the april update I laughed at the engram hoarders but when the update released I was super sour.
-
Mostly legendary guns and armor....to dismantle for additional marks as needed. Damn near full.
-
8 AntwortenNope. I'm more concerned with my desolate lack of Armor Materials than Engrams for RoI. If I were to ever run short of Weapon Parts, I can just visit the weaponsmith. Not a problem. Armor Materials? I'm constantly running south of 20 in my inventory, and can't seem to build up any decent reserves of armor materials. But, can I go just buy some like I do with weapon parts? No... Apparently Bungie thought being able to buy weapon parts at a vendor was a great idea, but that being able to also buy armor materials would somehow break the game... This is just one example of the severe lack of planning/foresight on the part of the Devs for this game.

Last time this happened year 2 stuff was still year 2 stuff, but yes you probably should save engrams.
-
I very much doubt it will work but I'm saving a few exotic engrams just in case. Not much to lose, really, I have all the current exotics so it's pretty much just a shard either way.
-
It wont work
but the extra legendary marks will
-
oh yeah let's save engrams so we can get all the exotics and then complain that there wasn't enough content in r.o.i
-
Stack on legendary decoded weapons they give You legendary marks of course so you have got reserves engrams are better than normal items You know why

11 AntwortenWtf reading all the responses....I haven't stacked anything at all...maybe I should try and do it now. Unhelpful as it is I haven't ranked up my dead orbit to get the faction exotic yet:-( I'm trying to grind but it really takes forever.

1 AntwortenI have like 20 legendary gauntlet engrams.... The drop rate for legendary weapon engrams needs to be increased omg
