There are two different punishments in Destiny, Restrictions and Bans. Restrictions are temporary and can last for an undisclosed amount of time. Bans on the other hand are permanent. Both of these cannot be disputed and appealed to Bungie nor will Bungie tell you how long it'll last if it's a restriction. If you have been restricted/banned then the Bungie security team has acquired enough metadata to rightfully convict you. Also note that having really bad internet can get you restricted from Crucible.
