This game, besides the constant shooting and explosions and chaotic antics coming your way, it can be super immersive. I booted up Destiny this morning (nothing new) and started up the daily heroic, apparently I had the music muted and hud opacity on low from the night before. So, I drop on Mars, on my phone checking social media and the like when the sound of the wind brushing through the sand starts to catch my attention. I pick up the controller and decide to admire my red planet surroundings. I'm walking around looking at everything in the environment and am astonished I had never noticed the tiny details such as little flusters of sand sliding down a slope or the humming of a light fixture in the ground. At that moment I was actually immersed into the world. The feeling of being a powerful, light wielding Guardian with my trusty hand cannon in my grip gave me the feeling of beyond cool. Made me play different as well, more carefully and tactical, which made it all the more fun. This whole little experience, It reminded me how much work and many years these people put into this beautiful game and made me appreciate Destiny a little more. I hope Bungo can deliver more moments like this in ROI with some killer aesthetics and awesome additions to the lore.
Edit: Nice, we're trending. I'm glad other people share my thoughts on this overlooked beauty.

I took a break from Destiny for eight months because I was sick of it. When I started back up again in July The first thing I did was the Fallen Sabre strike. All of a sudden I started to remember how freaking gorgeous the game actually is. The sun was setting on the Cosmodrone and for me it was like getting reacquainted with an old friend who I fell out of touch with. I know exactly where you're coming from--great post!

Very cool moment. I used to speed through missions because, well, my friends speed through everything, and I wanted to stay at their pace. And I do recall a time when I first started playing doing missions solo that this game actually has strategy opportunities, if you want to play that way. I like to see if I can not take a single hit to finish a mission now, and this game plays so well. This game is very well designed if you're not running and gunning the whole time! I would prefer that enemies be much less in number, smarter, and as hard to kill as I am, for some serious battles. Bosses with no adds, but who aren't also dumb bullet sponges that rely on tons of environmental damage. 1v1 epic confrontation where I've got to play a bit of cat and mouse maybe. But where single shots really count. But, for some reason, people want everything to be speed runs and hordes.

The forests beyond the Endless Steps. That's all I have to say.

8 AntwortenI turned off the music long ago for this very reason. There wouldn't be dramatic music if it were reality, right? A Guardian would just use his ghost to play Deadmau5, like I do.

1 AntwortenWhenever the IB rolls into town I always take a moment to admire the breathtakingly beautiful mountain vista that is kept under wraps for large parts of the month. Before I leave, I always make sure to check the fish in the garden pools, and the butterflies floating from plant to plant.

2 AntwortenPlaying through the vanilla story I got a renewed appreciation for the way the music in solo missions really draws out the scale and epic nature of the fights. For a treat, play the heart of the garden again with headphones in and the volume up. There is nothing else like it in the game. (Maximum effect, get there with a new character so difficulty is comparable to the mission itself) Those are my favorite moments, when everything weaves together in a tapestry of experience and as a player you feel the cost and the stakes of the fight like your guardian would.

7 AntwortenThe art team and the sound team did really great job on destiny. Only if bungie makes the story a lot better in RoI, fixes crucible and destiny is the perfect shooter.

nice name

1 AntwortenI remember first playing the game. I spent like 10 minutes exploring the start area... And dying because I jumped off the edge because that one dude said we could go over there. Anyways, yeah. Great game.

1 AntwortenThe world building, sound design, and little touches are just... so good. Even running around Earth or Venus... there are times, if you just let go of the story problems and look around for a bit... it can truly be breathtaking. Say what you will about the actual story, there are some incredible artists and designers at bungie, and I appreciate their vision and talent.

I always keep the music up because I love the game score, but I'm totally going to try this. Good call.

Bearbeitet von Stormhawk118: 8/18/2016 9:14:43 PMMy hud opacity has been low since it was an option, and music is almost always muted Playing patrol with your hud disabled is pretty fun

I do remember doing a mission in the dust palace, I was on the upper zone already, where the giant windows are at your left as you enter. At that moment it was afternoon in the game and the sun was almost behind the city skyline of liberation, so I quickly clean the room of cabal troops and deactivate the HUD, just in time to see the final moments before the sun got behind the high, dusty skycrapers of Liberation. It was so beautiful... It's sad we can barely notice how pretty this game can be, how immersive it's atmosphere can be, making you think that you're that guardian, on your own, rushing less and planing more a way out. We already know Destiny has it's flaws, but atmosphere doesn't lack for sure, it's only that we don't always notice it because we are with friends or we want to end the strike fast.

Totally agree. Lots of people miss this stuff
-
The music is great and all but I really had to mute it to fully enjoy the atmosphere.
-
That wall hurts my eyes. Mind putting it in an actual format?
-
Yeh there's actually so much detail in the many areas of destiny, it's quite amazing if you take the time to experience everything
-
I love walking around with out HUD and music on. Sounds so much better.

1 AntwortenAgreed. Well put.
