Anyone have a problem with Handcannon shots not registering?

Been having a bit of trouble every once in awhile with this. Wondering if I'm just off my game or if anyone else has this problem. I'll shoot and swear I see the bullet connect but they take no damage. *EDIT: For those saying I should just pace my shots - Trust me. I do. My problem isn't pacing. It's that my headshots don't register sometimes even when I do. Or sometimes you don't have the option of pacing because every other weapon type will kill you too fast. I'll get shot 4 to 5 times with MIDA at ANY range before I can fire off more than 1 or 2 shots.

  • I was in zone control earlier today...was trying out an Eysaluna i got and i could hit a trip mine from 2 feet in front of me...in the end i just sat on the -blam!-er bc i felt pitiful...altho every shot was spot on...

  • Anyone having problems being shot thru walls and behind cover? Anyone having problems with ghost shells on shotguns Anyone having problems by not being able to put shots on laggy players?? Does anyone having problems.... Etc

    • You know I heard somewhere that the reason they have ghost bullets is because of bloom. When you are aimed down sights and fire faster then the bloom can correct you end up having ghost bullets because the bloom hasnt reset completely. I dont know if I explained that too well so forgive me.

    • Tlw and thorn caused all the nerfs. Bungie needs to separate global hand cannon changes and exotic weapon changes. Legendaries were never really op and hawkmoon wasnt really bad either.

      • I don't really use HCs except for while completing the weekly crucible bounty, so I can't tell for certain when it comes to that.. But I have noticed that Scout Rifle shots aren't hitting their mark, even when I have the reticle firmly planted between someone's eyes.

      • Yes, usually after the second or third shot theres a cooldown for the weapons accuracy. Affects all handcannons. Special new secret perk for all handcannons! Enjoy yourself guardian

      • If you are using them on burning shrine for trials this week. My thoughts are that its actually a much bigger map then people expect so you may be shooting at the edge of its range a lot.

      • Bungie needs to shit or get off the pot on this one. I don't normally go to that point, because I respect all the work they do, even if we don't always like the results. But hand cannons are in a sort of prison of thought, and it's about time they got let out on parole. I understand that Hawkmoon and Thorn were a terror, and TLW was a tyrant. But they have fixed them to the point where they are either relatively balanced (thorn and TLW, as long as you stay the hell out of CQC) or less effective than legendaries (hello, Hawkmoon). Truthfully, Hawkmoon need to have it's last nerf removed, as it didn't really affect anything. It seemed more like spite than balancing, honestly. The idea was that if you had the skill, the gun should reward it. The sights are minimal, with negligible zoom factor, so make the best of that for long-range shooting. They require head shots for decent TTKs, and grossly punish misses. Master them, and you were a force of nature, fail to do that, and get eaten alive. But them the big 3 came in, and people got good with them. Really good. Good to the point that people have been quoted as saying, 'No matter what the question, Hawkmoon is always the answer.'. It wasn't balanced, I think we can all admit that. So in response, hand cannons got jailed. Initial shot inaccuracy, invisible bloom cones that require precise shot pacing and artificially inflate TTKs, ammo capacity limits, all to tame 3 guns down. They went from the high-skill gun to the weakest primary in the game. Recently, some of that was changed; ammo capacity went back up and initial inaccuracy was removed. Hand cannons were in a great place at that point (April update), and they were very usable and competitive without being OP. Then came the next update...aggressive damage fall-off came in to limit the range of the guns (in theory) because the balance teams wanted scouts to come up a bit (despite the fact that the reason they didn't was that maps aren't designed for them...). Additionally, a vague 'accuracy boost for low-range hand cannons' was put in. It reduced the need for shot pacing, but the circumstances at which it is effective haven't every been covered or explained. So we all have to keep pacing shots at below the rate of fire. On top of that, at least on strong range perk is now needed to keep the guns useful beyond a small envelope of ranges. Rangerfinder in particular became valuable, as it directly pushed back the drop-off range. So the focus went from finding the gun you like to finding one with certain perks only. Don't get me wrong, my high-range hand cannon and I still do everything together, but I have to play at a much higher level than I should. If I throw on an AR, I am shocked at how much easier everything is. I really think that the idea that these are short range weapons needs to die, that they shouldn't compete with anything else. They are damned tough guns to use well. I do very well with one, and I have earned that skill set through a mire of blood, sweat, tears, and frustration. I'm glad I did it, but I wish I wouldn't have had too, while I watched Mida, Hawksaw, Doctrine, Grasp, and a host of other weapons get kills faster and easier, with way less effort. I'm proud to be a great hand cannon user; I'm convinced that it was way tougher than with any other weapon type. It's really time to forget the past, in a way. We're really past the point where we believe that the weapon type makes the power; it's the perks and the RoF / Imapct balance. You can make almost any gun shoot effectively into scout range with the right perks. This is basically true, exotics sometimes withstanding. I get plenty of AR kills from stupid ranges, same for pulses, same for HC's. I earned that right by grinding for the guns that can do that. I can be killed just as easily, I just have more offensive and defensive options now. I think it's time that we got over this idea that we have to limit things down to keep other things up. The gun functions will limit them enough as it is, just let them out of the cages of damage fall-off and bloom. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying AR's should become some insane full-auto scout, but if you can actually land all of those shots on a head from 60 meters, congrats, you deserve my death, and I give it up willingly. Chances are you'll never do it, but if you do, congrats, good play. If you manage to CQC me with a sniper, props to you on a crazy shot, have some points. We really need to just get over gun 'concepts' and just have gun fights, and Bungie needs to understand that with perks, limiting the guns into zones won't work.

          • This has been discussed so many times...bungie hates hand cannons, pure and simple. What they have done to them as far as bloom, phantom bullets, blanks, etc has been just sad. Low and médium range hand cannons have it worse but even my sureshot, rifled barrel, hidden hand eyasluna will shoot blanks at close range even with me pacing my shots (and I shouldn't need to pace my shots if they are close range weapons, try pacing against a doctrine at close range or even medium and see what happens). And I won't even talk about the hawkmoon and the number of times it has been nerfed. I love this game, it is the game I have played more time in my life but what they have done to hand cannons is stupid and it has been going on for a year or more.

            Your using the First Curse, yeah I've had a couple of un registered shots. This is my main hand cannon, I use at the moment. I see the perks your using also, try using smooth ballistic instead of the common soft ballistic. Don't worry about the very the low Stability the hand cannon is so accurate you should be fine with the 3 shot, even though logically it should be a 2 shot headshot Anyways... It will help you... the only other reason is its lag/connection error. Year 2 hand cannons have been nerf with range, so you will need to have the most range possible for it to be at range for your opponent in PVP especially the rate of fire is so low. Hope it helps, Update if this does. I had the same experience then I change the perk and no problem.

          • I'm a handcannon guy turned pulse rifle just because of this reason. I'm also a shotty guy turned fusion rifle. What I've been experiencing with the fusion rifles is that some of the close range shots are not registering. I always end up getting stabbed in the face after the fact. So, it's not just hand cannons. This is also happening with fusion rifles.
