"A stand-your-ground law (sometimes called "line in the sand" or "no duty to retreat" law) authorizes people to protect and defend themselves against threats or perceived threats. This type of law states that people have no duty to retreat from any place where they have a lawful right to be and that they may use any level of force if they reasonably believe they face an imminent and immediate threat of serious bodily harm or death."

I think anybody who comes through the door or gets through the fence around the backyard should be fair game whether they attacking or not.

Bearbeitet von TheDankWeb: 8/14/2016 6:38:51 PMCrazy how most of the states with the strictest guns laws and no Stand Your Ground/ Castle Doctrine, have the most violent crime.
Before you talk about Michigan (Detroit), the city itself has some of the strictest gun regulations in the country.
It's almost like good guys not having guns makes it easy for criminals to do bad, violent things. But what do I know, gun free zones have worked so well..

1 AntwortenHow do I feel about it...? Even if there were no laws likes these, I would still do it. I will defend myself, my family, and civilians to the beat of my ability with my firearm. What do states except you to do without it? Oh, just run away in an active shooter situation. Ridiculous.

1 AntwortenIt's gonna suck for some people when minority report becomes reality

I fully agree with it.

Great in theory, shaky in practice.
-
1 AntwortenWish that was legal here. Someone breaks in and attacks you, it's illegal to defend yourself. Rubbish.

Bearbeitet von Colloquial_Bloke: 8/14/2016 9:11:02 AM"Force with force". A citizen may only protect themselves using deadly force if their attacker(s) presents a clear danger of serious bodily harm or death. Getting punched, shoved, or cursed at is no excuse to pull a firearm or knife. There are exceptions, however. Someone can be lethal using only their body. That would be a very rare occurrence though. One could reasonably assume that an enraged (or intoxicated, high) man that weighs in at 300 lbs of pure muscle could easily cause serious injury or death. Retreat should be the first course of action in that instance, granted you aren't protecting family or loved ones. Carrying a firearm as citizen is a responsibility as much as it is a right. Even minor disputes need to be avoided. Any argument that an armed citizen is in automatically has a gun involved, whether or not it is drawn, or revealed as a warning (which is illegal). Irresponsible gun owners, and those who own guns illegally give the 2nd amendment a bad name. Those who go through the proper channels to acquire firearms, attend training classes, and are involved in NRA or other organized shooting events are among the most law abiding citizens. People love to generalize gun owners into the "gun toting redneck" category, but it just isn't true. Many normal, professional, and otherwise respectable people carry concealed firearms. The ability and means to protect oneself is the natural born right of every person on this planet. If someone pulls a weapon on my family or myself, you'd best believe that I will respond in kind. I hope that it never happens, but I am prepared for it. I'll not place my families lives, or my own life below the life of a common criminal. Not now, not ever.

2 AntwortenIf escape is an option it's the one best taken. But let's say it's not just you, you have kids or other things/persons of great value. Sometimes retreat isn't the first option, and when in those situations you don't have time to analyze all potential routes. The big question is: "When does the life of an attacker hold more value to you than your own?"

Should be a law in every country. If your life is in danger you should be protected by law to defend yourself

1 AntwortenBearbeitet von Raven8098: 8/14/2016 1:44:30 AMShouldn't be a law to begin with. It's a natural born right.

12 AntwortenI'm all for self-defense laws. They may be a bit subjective, but it's better than having to choose between a jail sentence or getting maimed and/or killed.
Also, castle doctrine is really just common sense.
1 AntwortenWe have a good system In the UK. If you use excessive force, you go to jail. I.E. If someone punches you and you shoot them In the head you will probably go to jail. If it's not excessive it's alright.
wort
19 AntwortenThe problem is that you may see someone as a possible threat and use lethal force. But it wouldn't be fair if someone pulled a knife in you and tried to attack you, then you going to jail for shooting them in the chest 4 times.
-
It's your natural born right to defend yourself, your family/friends, and your property... If someone is threatening my life or the life of someone I care about them they can expect to get a double tap of 9mm to the chest.
-
I agree with them, I like what my state did recently. In Tennessee if you are in a gun free zone and you have harm, loss of life, or property stolen you are now able to sue the business for taking away your right to defwn yourself.
loss of life, as in someone else is killed, not you

dead people can't sue

I hope Zombies?
2 AntwortenPeople can be disarmed without lethal force when they attack you, so no. It's an innocent life at stake, you should by no means take their life. In fact, to prevent situations like this from even happening, guns and other lethal weapons(i.e knifes, etc) should be banned.

The power fantasies of some people in this thread are pretty hilarious.

If someone tries to punch me, I am judo flipping him across the room law or no law.
-
1 AntwortenI don't need a law telling me I'm allowed to defend myself.
-
1 AntwortenPerfectly reasonable. Someone tries to kill me I'll try to kill them.
-
9 AntwortenAsk any police officer, or any law enforcement agency and they'll tell you that your best bet if you're ever in a situation that could be dangerous is to get out of that situation as fast as you can. Making every effort to retreat is a vital part of self defense. It's not just for 'pussies', it's for people who want to have the best chance at living. It should be part of every self defense law. Retreating isn't always possible, but it's the first and most important step with the best chance at keeping you alive.

I fully agree with them. In their general principle. I haven't read the exact verbiage for any of them so I'm not sure I agree with every clause however the idea that you can defend yourself if some asshole is going to cause you harm or try and kill you is in my opinion a good thing.
