Signed! Now with news of an exotic version I am glad I did. Because it is needed for obtaining the exotic version.
Edit: wow! I didn't expect this many to reply. Well for the most part I am now aware we don't need the rifle but heck its a damn good gun in crucible.

Yep for no good reason until now, I hung onto it.

I still have mine from my first character, but I wouldn't want to dismantle it so hopefully there will be a chance to get it at somepoint during the quest it self.
