There was a debate in another thread about Trials matchmaking either being changed to SBMM for more balanced competition, but being more inclusive to players of lower skill levels, or leaving it to only the best of the best pvp players in the world. It was a debate heating up between three or four people, and I left it before it got toxic. Everybody made valid points, but it would be cool to see the entire communities take on the Trials matchmaking.
SBMM- Players would be matched up by skill level all the way through their trials passage. The algorithm would search for teams based on an average of the entire team's elo versus just the host's elo. It would almost be tiered like weight classes before a wrestling match. Would still be sweaty, and would still require you to beat out 9 teams through better combat skills to achieve your loot, but wouldn't cause a lower skilled team to be matched up against a team of gods. You would still have to earn your flawless, but it would be much more fair. Wouldn't exclude such a large portion of the player population from the game mode, and wouldn't cause lower skilled players to have to rely on carries to see the lighthouse. They would have to actually fight for themselves.
Current- The lighthouse is only for the best of the best, and no one else. Only the miniscule portion of the entire player population is allowed to succeed in this game mode. There's no ranked playlist, no league play, or anything like that, but only the gods may win.
Keep it civil, ladies and gents. Try to find a way to meet halfway in your discussions.

I like it as it is. It's not impossible to beat the elites, but some people just give up when they see them.

5 AntwortenOr they could take SBMM out of regular crucible so all the good players aren't discouraged from playing it. Notice how trials got 10x harder in year 2? It's because SBMM makes crucible unbearable for players with high stats by giving them lag and long search times. Trials is mostly CBMM(which doesn't suffer as much from the problem that SBMM has) so the good players go there. Also once trials is skill based there won't be any incentive to get better at crucible. A lot of players play to improve so that it helps them win but with a 50% chance to win every game regardless of your skill level kinda makes that endeavor pointless. Not to mention with that 50% chance to win, going to the Lighthouse will be RNG just like the rest of this game. I know my solution of taking SBMM out isn't great but I felt like SBMM is what caused the problem and may make things worse if get we more of it.

The matchmaking used in Trials is fine. I ran with a team where all 3 of us had low ELO and came against a high team. They smacked us so it seems unfair sometimes but not enough to change it
