Yeah, I would get away from the autos. They are great if you are on a full fireteam...not so great solo. Mida is a good place to start as it is solid all around. Then start to close the gap with other weapons until you find yourself at the range you excel. Characters with better neutral games is a good choice as well. Hope this helps!
