The Most Sophisticated PVP Ever

That is to say, Destiny is the most sophisticated and ambitious FPS PVP ever developed. I look at COD and Halo as glorified games of tag. They're fun as hell but most guns are usable and Everyone pretty much has the same character. Kills come easier, etc. Destiny makes you work for kills. The time to kill is just long enough to give you an ulcer. Between the classes, sub classes, weapons rolls, armor builds and skill tree preference, a player can be radically different from their opponent. It's a very rich and dynamic experience. Not to mention the fascinating science that goes into the way the guns perform. The guns feel alive. They have personalities. We're attached to them. We love them as much as our own children. This isn't a diatribe of my musings on the topic of the crucible. I'm just giving some credit where it's due. We're pretty damn lucky to have Destiny at all. Not to mention that the crucible is the best PVP ever. ALL THAT SAID. I'm fully aware of the red bar curse. The infamous and and favorite Tefty topic: the dreaded net code. I am fully aware that the lack of dedicated servers greatly hinders the potential of what is already a fantastic game. I get that there's always an OP weapon, subclass or ability. I'M INTIMATELY AWARE OF THE NEGATIVES OF THE PVP EXPERIENCE. But all of that crap mentioned above will someday be remedied and put in the past forever. That's not the hard part. Creating what we now have, this utterly sophisticated, game changing evolution of the multiplayer experience was the hard part. Conceiving it and building it was the mountain Bungie had to climb. But they did it. They delivered far more than just a glimpse at the future of FPS PVP. They almost nailed it on the first try. So why do we complain so much about PVP? Wouldn't it be worse to see all of the ways the game design could be improved? To be totally disappointed by what could have been? I think so. I'm content because dedicated servers, a polished net code and 60 fps are on the way. This game will someday play like Jimi Hendrix did the guitar. We need to remember that. We need to remember that Destiny is already Jimi Hendrix. He just needs to refine his style a bit. It's like, 22 year old Jimi. That's such a far better position to be in than if Destiny was nowhere close to being Jimi and was more like the guy from Nickelback. You can't fix nickelback. You can fix 22 year old Jimi Because the law of inevitability says that 22 year old Jimi will someday become the legendary Jimi. So be grateful Bungie's on the path of inevitable greatness and maybe complain less about the same issues that they too despise and are hell bent on correcting.

    • Are you kidding me? The idea behind the PvP might be good, but in reality PvP is nothing more than a huge lagfest. I just got disconnected from the will of Crota strike after losing 20 more minutes of my life due to your crappy servers. Bungie, this is on you! I get disconnected from strikes, PvP, and just about everything else several times a week! At times I'll be one of only a few that are are green lined, but that doesn't seem to matter with the games connectivity. Immediately after the disconnection, (which almost always takes away all of my special and heavy ammo with it) I check the connection and It's always good (between 15 and 18mbs D/L and 4 and 5mbs U/L and Nat 2). So Bungie all I can say is that it's time you stop counting your money and actually fix your server issues, but also take those stupid error codes and shove them where the sun doesn't shine. Ahhh now I feel better :)

          Woah... I'm all for analogies, metaphor, inuendo, hearsay, and conjecture but please: leave Jimi Hendrix out of this. Destiny is very good in a lot of areas, but it ain't no Jimi. The closest that Destiny comes to being Jimi is in the bits that Marty had a hand in. No more Marty... No Band of Gypsies... No Epic second act. I am not convinced. [spoiler]Killzone is far and away more sophisticated.._ just saying[/spoiler]

            • People say trash about destiny PVP and look at them at the end playing and going back, it is not maybe the best pvp but thanks for having it. And I do agree the weapons has personalities and we all attach to them.

            • The pvp in Destiny is balls. I mean it's okay, but holy shit is it casual. I'm sorry but do you see how much 1 hit kills are in this game? How strong aim assist is? Constant tracking radar? Spawning with a shotgun/sniper/fusion and always having ammo, which are just more 1 hit kills? Will this ever be balanced? DOOM plays at like 3 times the speed, has a longer time to kill, is way more balanced, and has dedicated servers.(Not to mention they just added 1 flag ctf and a new take on domination for free) There are a ton of games who do pvp better. Overwatch, DOOM, Tribes, Titanfall, Hawken, Battlefield, Quake, Halo, Unreal Tournament, all I can think of off the top of my head. (Just tried the Lawbreakers alpha as well, cool mix of Overwatch and Unreal with an adult art style, cool game). Hell, I'd say Uncharted 4 pvp is as good as Destiny, it's different but still just as polished and fun.

              • I mean I only seem to be killed by either a MIDA, TLW or some form of pulse rifle, and this game's multiplayer appears to be the most unbalanced mess I've ever played, which is there own fault because often times if they just listen to their community about what they should balance, things would balance

              • Although not the worse, I would say that Destiny's PvP is sophisticated in terms of being consistently broken, often unplayable, and it's dated use of P-2-P networking scheme. PvP in the Gears of War series, in my opinion, was more "sophisticated" in terms of play modes, variety, and engagement.

              • I don't see what your talking about. The PvP in destiny takes no skill or little skill and I've used about every weapon. NLB and fusion rifles take some time to use but barely anyone uses those. If you want sophisticated PvP even overwatch is better

In a game like modern Doom it takes a bit more than that and the mobility games like Doom offer make it even take longer. Nowadays Destiny matchmaking is a game that punishes you for winning a few games or having a decent K/D. Worst, the K/D is what moves people on this game, while teamwork is completly underrated, this said, in some modes all you get is frustration. You either get people dieing 26 times and with 2 kills, which is enough to bury your team. In that case (happened a few days ago) one person alone is responsible to give the other team at least 2600 points... Awesome... Destiny is nice for the first days, once you realize how people exploit the game and sad it is to spend 6 months without getting decent weapons, or having no consistent way to get a decent meta weapon... Things will get even more fun the day PS4 gets jail breaked, which isn't really far from now. You either have good latencies or you don't. It relies mainly on how the internet works and where the servers are located. The only good thing about dedicated servers is the that players aren't exposed to other players and it's far more dificult to grab someone's IP for DDoS. [quote]We need to remember that. Yeah?[/quote] Destiny could be one of the most interesting games (in a way it is), the only problem is technical decisions behind it that make the experience a nightmare. Destiny is the only game where people are punished for playing well. If you want to test such theory you can... Grab 'Jolly Holiday' quest and do it on Crucible Control for example. Enjoy your experience and then read this post again and ask yourself if your opinion changed or not. I fully credit Bungie on the way how they created the game, but when it comes to collect fun out of it, I would risk to say that many people are getting far more frustation than fun... That isn't what people are looking for in a game (at least that's not what I am looking for).
