That is to say, Destiny is the most sophisticated and ambitious FPS PVP ever developed.
I look at COD and Halo as glorified games of tag. They're fun as hell but most guns are usable and Everyone pretty much has the same character. Kills come easier, etc.
Destiny makes you work for kills. The time to kill is just long enough to give you an ulcer.
Between the classes, sub classes, weapons rolls, armor builds and skill tree preference, a player can be radically different from their opponent. It's a very rich and dynamic experience.
Not to mention the fascinating science that goes into the way the guns perform. The guns feel alive. They have personalities. We're attached to them. We love them as much as our own children.
This isn't a diatribe of my musings on the topic of the crucible. I'm just giving some credit where it's due.
We're pretty damn lucky to have Destiny at all. Not to mention that the crucible is the best PVP ever.
ALL THAT SAID. I'm fully aware of the red bar curse. The infamous and and favorite Tefty topic: the dreaded net code. I am fully aware that the lack of dedicated servers greatly hinders the potential of what is already a fantastic game. I get that there's always an OP weapon, subclass or ability.
I'M INTIMATELY AWARE OF THE NEGATIVES OF THE PVP EXPERIENCE.
But all of that crap mentioned above will someday be remedied and put in the past forever.
That's not the hard part. Creating what we now have, this utterly sophisticated, game changing evolution of the multiplayer experience was the hard part. Conceiving it and building it was the mountain Bungie had to climb. But they did it. They delivered far more than just a glimpse at the future of FPS PVP. They almost nailed it on the first try.
So why do we complain so much about PVP? Wouldn't it be worse to see all of the ways the game design could be improved? To be totally disappointed by what could have been?
I think so. I'm content because dedicated servers, a polished net code and 60 fps are on the way. This game will someday play like Jimi Hendrix did the guitar.
We need to remember that. We need to remember that Destiny is already Jimi Hendrix. He just needs to refine his style a bit. It's like, 22 year old Jimi.
That's such a far better position to be in than if Destiny was nowhere close to being Jimi and was more like the guy from Nickelback. You can't fix nickelback. You can fix 22 year old Jimi Because the law of inevitability says that 22 year old Jimi will someday become the legendary Jimi.
So be grateful Bungie's on the path of inevitable greatness and maybe complain less about the same issues that they too despise and are hell bent on correcting.

The PVP in Destiny is just novelty. It's far too unbalanced to be considered remotely competitive. A fraction of the player base takes it way more serious than it actually needs to be, leaving to make a string influence on how the rest of the game plays. Weapon balancing is attempted based on how given weapons, perks and such perform in pvp where, as you said, there are different character builds which slightly alter the time to kill. My agility builds get hit harder than someone else's armor or recovery builds do, which means I'm able to be one-shot by a high impact sniper to the body, vs a high armor warlock rocking the ram and surviving a head shot from a low impact one. Not saying there's anything wrong with pvp or those who enjoy it, as I myself enjoy it from time to time, but having good weapons and very useful perks be destroyed by the crucible which hinders the pve experience is just silly. Looking back over the past two years there are a lot of things that were good in pve that became otherwise obsolete due to a nerf or a perk change which was based in complaints and such by "serious" pvp players.

Hahahahahaha

1 AntwortenI stopped reading at higher time to kill than Halo. Lol you obviously arent an MLG 50.
Halo MLG > Crucible
Bearbeitet von RavenousLD3341: 8/4/2016 4:18:03 PMNo. This is unsophisticated PvP. If suffers from issues that many many other developers have fixed. (Some better than others) The insanely long TTKs, especially on primary weapons, take movement decisions out of the players mind. Example: In Battlefield 4 I have to think.... If i go out there now, I might die. Do I wait for an enemy reload to break cover, and risk being hit with a grenade or a rocket while i wait? Do I move to a better location now to position myself for a flank or to gain more effective cover? In Destiny I'll just go over here, If i get shot at who gives a shit, It'll take half that mag to down me anyway. Supers negate engagement decisions. Example: Battlefield 4 Man... There's a lot of people over there. I'll hang back and engage from a distance while i wait for back up. Destiny Ohhhhh There's 5 people on that flag. *Uses Super* As for the guns. No. We have 3 of each type. High RoF/ Low Impact Mid RoF/ Mid Impact Low RoF/ High Impact They can be tweaked with perks, but there are so few good perks that really makes a difference.

Nickleback is great.

They're fun as hell but most guns are usable and Everyone pretty much has the same character. Kills come easier, etc.
... In proper Halos, there is actual character customization - Halo Reach, which has tons more character customization than Destiny, and even has unique emblems. Kills come easy? I assume you're referring to Destiny? Everyone knows Destiny has a shorter TTK and basically hands out kills, giving players power weapons at the start, infinite grenades, supers...
Destiny makes you work for kills. The time to kill is just long enough to give you an ulcer.
Sarcasm?
a player can be radically different from their opponent. It's a very rich and dynamic experience.
Oh that player has a sniper, oh that player has a sniper, oh even better - that player has a sniper, very dynamic and rich. Oh Lightining grenade, oh fusion, ... etc. Oh a sniper.
The guns feel alive. They have personalities. We're attached to them. We love them as much as our own children.
Most Legendaries are generic, but some are, as you say alive, especially Exotics.
This isn't a diatribe of my musings on the topic of the crucible. I'm just giving some credit where it's due.
No, it's a completely baseless list of "things destiny PVP does great", which most of them are untrue to anyone who has played more than 2 Multiplayers.
Not to mention that the crucible is the best PVP ever.
hahaha,
Creating what we now have, this utterly sophisticated, game changing evolution of the multiplayer experience was the hard part.
lol.
So be grateful Bungie's on the path of inevitable greatness and maybe complain less about the same issues that they too despise and are hell bent on correcting.
Grateful for what? A shell of their former greatness? Their on a path of their inevitable destruction, we complain because they ignore the issues, the PVP in Destiny is skill-less, easy, casual, doesn't even have a ranking system. Barely anyone plays it seriously. ~ Someone who actually has experience with Online Multiplayers and Bungie's past games.

I see they made the new intern at Bungie make a post again....

1 AntwortenI personally think Diablo 2 had the best pvp ever. As for a fps destiny is right up there

2 Antworten
We're pretty damn lucky to have Destiny at all. Not to mention that the crucible is the best PVP ever.
Stopped reading here. The crucible is laggy, unbalanced, and just NOT FUN. There are so many more FPS games that are a much better experience.

2 AntwortenI'll stick to titanfall for a fun PVP game. Maybe a little bit of battlefield.

If you love a pixelated weapon more or on the same level as you're kids, you have some serious thinking to do.

1 AntwortenSorry OP, good well written post, but I don't agree. Whilst it's getting better and arguably on par with cod destinys pvp is no where near halos. Especially halo 5's. Probably the best console pvp halo since 2.
-
Bearbeitet von CapnMark: 8/2/2016 5:14:52 PMThat's why COD and Halo pvp is exciting because you get lots more kills, more fun and relaxing. I'm able to go positive in pvp. The problem as OP stated above is you got to work for your kills in Destiny, which to me sucks and makes the game slower and not as fast paced. That's why pvp Everyone uses snipers because you don't have to work as hard to use a primary.
-
Your logic needs more logic; if you don't bitch and moan Bungie will assume everything is great and do nothing.
-
2 Antworten
So be grateful Bungie's on the path of inevitable greatness and maybe complain less about the same issues that they too despise and are hell bent on correcting.
We have been hell-bent on helping them make this game great by giving them great ideas, easy fixes, etc. that would make the game more fun, accessible, and rewarding. Yet they seem hell-bent on ignoring all of us. See Cozmo's wishlist, a place where great ideas seem to go to die and be forgotten.

Yea and jimi died at 27.

I think a lot of the salt comes from the love of the PvP game. We all just want it to be the best. My biggest beef of course is SBMM/red bar etc. I just don't get why they stick with it.
-
2 AntwortenVery well said and I really do agree with most of what you said but the red bar warriors have ruined this game for me. It's only gotten worse over the years and I have zero confidence anything will be done. When I had my counter strike server I had a mod that would monitor latency. If your ping spiked over 90ms you would get a warning. 3 times you're kicked. If you come back and it continues you get a 30 min ban. Then 1 hour. It really wouldn't be too difficult for Bungie to implement this coding into their match making system. Or better yet if your ping is too high you get placed in a game with others with the same connection quality.

Destiny has a good idea for pvp but bad execution. Overwatch is good pvp in my opinion. Halo pvp is more entertaining to me. All these destiny montages are the same. It's pretty bland.
-
Oh I love swat, it's tbh the only game mode that I really want in destiny that isn't...
well... Aside from griffball that is...
