Snipers aren't a major problem, regardless of what the forums think. The real issue is minor tweaks that would bring balance to the class of weapons overall.
1. Drop sniper body shot damage
Snipers at the top tier levels should take two body shots to kill, but only a primary headshot with a hard hitting weapon (Jade Rabbit, first curse, hawk moon, etc.). People should be punished for inaccuracy and have to offset that with a precision, the follow up primary body shot isn't balanced at all. In response to this and two tapping as a whole drop all body shot damage of snipers.
Black spindle archetype: 140 per body shot (2 shots)
1KYS archetype: 120 per body shot (2 shots)
Defiance of Yasmin archetype: 87 per body shot (3 shots)
Praydeth Revenge archetype: 63 per body shot (4 shots)
This balancing creates a trade off and punishment for missing shots and allows for perks pike LITC and final round to exist and not be game breaking.
2. Max aim assist at 50 value
Sniping at lower AA values makes it harder to snap to opponents and stick for as long. Increasing AA will naturally increase the skill gap, maxing out AA on a precision weapon should exist. This reduction of AA will also solve the issue of hitting head shots while being hit with a primary
3. Either remove the two frames of scoping increase or reduce zoom
It should be one or the other, not both. It promotes a campy, slower gameplay; i believe having a slower zoom in but a reduced zoom distance will be balanced, with low zoom scopes make the penalty for AA higher (ambush -25, shortgaze -15, tacsys -10).
Overall these three things will solve the weak primary issue, the easy use of snipers, the ammo problem (missing shots will punish ammo usage/reserves), and will speed the gameplay up as a whole.

2 AntwortenPlease just quit with these posts, haven't they ruined the game enough. There will never be balance in pvp, ever!

What if you get auto descoped when taking consistent damage? Maybe once you lose your shield (white part of health bar) you descope. Bungie already said they don't want snipers to be close range weapons and if your in a fire fight you already within close range likely. It also prevents people being super campy since if you get out played and are forced to descope this puts you at a disadvantage. I'll also add that none of this would affect snipers that are picking unaware people off from a distance. So really it shouldn't be that bad.
-
None of that would actually make any different. My 1kys is like 56 aim assist and I still hit headshots just fine. And if two body shots still kill it would make no difference.
-
28 AntwortenYou've got it exactly wrong. Hard-scoping isn't the problem with snipers; quick-scoping is. They need to drastically nerf the handling, and add to the zoom time so snipers are snipers and not assault rifles.
-
6 AntwortenSnipers are a major problem. But its not their fault that they've beel largely untouched while every other weapon class in the game has been serially nerfed around them. You fix snipers by buffing the game's primary weapons so that they kill faster....and give shotguns greater range, so that snipers once again have a reason to fear being flanked and forced into CQC. The problem is that Bungie won't do that. Because they want tthis game to play like Halo....but with a Call of Duty/Titanfall weapon system.
-
6 AntwortenThe simplest fix would be to give them a "cone" like they did with handcannons. All snipers should have first shot pin point accuracy, but if a sniper is spamming rounds or taking constant damage from a primary then it should open the cone considerably. It keeps them a skilled weapon where they have to line up the shot and shoot first to win, and would make flanking a sniper an actual viable tactic.
-
So, your solution is to make the underused, low damage snipers... even weaker than before. I don't get it.
-
6 AntwortenReducing body shot damage would definitely get people to move off of the high impact snipers for sure. No matter how much they say it's a skill weapon, the real reason people stick to their 1kys and longbow varieties is because they take you down to 1 shot with a body shot.
-
Only fix I can think of is how about we leave them alone problem solved
-
1 AntwortenI think a quick and easy fix would be to have flinch actually move the reticle away from its original position. Usually the only time I die by a sniper is when I challenge and get of 3 mida head shots or 2 bursts with hacksaw and then get domed. Fixing the flinch will stop that happening often.
-
16 AntwortenThose damage changes would further solidify the 1KYS archetype as the only one that people use. Horrible idea.
-
20 AntwortenI think they should 'ave kept snipers as heavies like in early development.. Doing so now would ruin so much but I honestly don't know what they should do in all this, there as so many arguments for so many points. Personally I favor the halo-like descoping on being shot idea.

7 AntwortenAh I feel like I see one of these every day. How to truly balance snipers! How to make snipers not overpowered! Idea for sniper balancing! Viable nerf for snipers! I'm gonna take a page from the strikers book and say what they say about shoulder charge. "You shouldn't be dying if you're aware of your surroundings, if they do kill you just learn from it or accept that they are good" just quit complaining and find ways to counter them, it's so easy to shotgun in this week's trials map despite everyone saying its a "sniper" map.

I agree. But I think we need to have less special ammo in PVP. Too many people use special weapons for almost the entire match and that would force people to use primary's
-
I find it funny that there is no sway nor a "holding steady" when looking down the scope. Just about every other first person multi-player has them. It makes it almost too easy to use. I'm all for snipers. I use them the most with fusions in second and shotguns last. But there is some work needed for making snipers a little more balanced. Hidden hand for one should be replaced. They already have a lot of aim assist. No reason for any more.
-
2 AntwortenAdd these. 1. Buff all primary's. 2. Remove snipers 3. Buff fusions and sidearms 4. Buff swords 5. Buff defender and sunsinger 6. Nerf the taken And TA DA!!! We are finished.
I was joking about #2
-
You know bungie slowed the frame rate and increased zoom because they wanted people to camp more rather than run and gun
-
4 AntwortenI always see people complain about this but I never see someone bodyshot primary.
-
Sounds like your suggestion is all about making Snipers take more Skill to use Have you considered this alternate point of view? Increasing skill requirements won't balance them, it will instead create a rift between casual and sweaty gamers where the sweatiest are unaffected by the skill requirements and will continue to make games hell for casuals while casuals will be unable to retaliate -if one were to pick a sniper the increased skill difficulty will almost surely doom him
-
I would imagine that first you would need to find a snipers center of gravity, which will vary from sniper to sniper of course. Then, you would have to find something to balance it on.
-
2 AntwortenReplace aim assist nerf with massive increase to flinch.
-
6 AntwortenHead shots descope. Done.
-
1 AntwortenAll they have to do is make primary's more viable again. We didn't have this in year 1. To many rely on special.
-
More flinch
-
2 AntwortenI agree with the body shot idea. Stupid getting body shot with 1KYS then by TLW
-
Honestly speaking, I used to be all for a sniper nerf. Imo it's complete bs that a sniper handles faster than any other special besides sidearms. I've come to the conclusion(as have many others) that the necessary adjustments would simply be a nerf to sniper handling, or a net buff to primary weapon damage.
