Auto rifles are the most prominent weapon in most FPS games just because they are the most familiar. This type of gun is usually balanced quite well because of the short TTK in games like the COD franchise.
The problem when you try to buff/nerf auto rifles in a slower game (like destiny) is that it takes quite a few bullets to kill, so if u increase the damage of every bullet, the TTK can easily drop so far that that type of gun becomes overpowered. Because autos were OP when destiny was released and bungie was scared of OPness, blanket nerfs have put this entire class in a bad place.
At the moment, auto rifles generally have an okay time to kill, but they cant compete (apart from bullet-hose archetype like DoP) because of range issues. Bungie needs to give these weapons efficacy at the correct ranges to make them competitive again, but not OP.
Suros regime - used to be incredibly powerful and popular because it could kill quickly at range. Since the blanket nerfs to rang and damage, its now ineffective at every range. Solution? Buff range and aim assist stat for all medium RoF pulse rifles so that they can compete with HCs and Pulses.
Doctrine of Passing - Im gonna take slightly more time on this one because its a sensitive issue. Why was this gun so strong?
1. It had a fast TTK
2. Its range was too high so it outperformed pulses, hcs and even scouts.
3. It was super stable making bullets at range even easier to land.
4. Its mag size promoted spraying and praying...which is annoying
What did bungie do? nerf damage, nerf counterbalance.
Solution? nerf range, bring back damage and stability.
Why do this? To make it super effective at close ranges (competes with TLW) but no more cross-map spraying.
Zhalo/hakkons hatchet - an underwhelming time to kill and an effective range of handcannons/pulses. Solution? Increase damage and reduce range to place this archetype comfortably between doctrine and suros.
PVE problems - auto rifles are great paired with a sniper in PVE but their ammo capacity is just too small becuase they are spray and pray weapons which use alot of ammo. Solution? buff auto rifle inventory stat by a huge amount.

I love Suros, but I'd really prefer to not have the Perks that either slow the fire rate or speed up the fire rate. Just leave it normal please

9 AntwortenYou're using the wrong ones bro. There's nothing wrong with them.

1 AntwortenMy warlock uses SUROS, and it got him to a 1.13 K/D at one point. Doesn't sound like much, but my other two Guardians, who I am actually better with (never mastered that infernal Glide) sre down in the 0.80's. SUROS is plenty powerful, thank you very much.

1 AntwortenWhat I do think needsfixing in some areas in the way they are used and operate. Stop the auto rifle folding into the body when it detects a hint of running, if the game is lagging, it slows down and sometimes doesn't open in time which means you can't shoot the rifle you are taken down in PVP

Aim. If you don't think of ARs as 'spray and pray', and actually try to land crit shots, they do just fine ammo-wise. Short bursts help. And movement - if you get though a lot of ammo, keep moving so you're always picking some up.

As I have said a fair few times on this forum, just because you can do well with a gun it doesn't mean that its competitive, it just means you are a good player. There are some guns which just aren't used in COMPETITIVE pvp (with the exception of DoP). There is a reason that they arent used, its because high RoF pulses and HCs just kill quicker and more consistently. Auto rifles need some love.

6 AntwortenI still see no problems. ARs are still fine. I used nechrocasm at 210 light in ToO and still managed to kill a guy. If you ask me they're just fine, although perhaps it's just me.

Ars are fine.

My Haakon's Hatchet is my favorite gun. There isn't anything underwhelming about it at all IMO. Auto rifles could probably use a little tweaking, but I don't think that they are in a bad spot
