I'm 73 - was top scorer in an Iron Banner match!
Yes, I'm really 73 in a couple of weeks and Destiny is the first video game I ever played. I was a 2014 Christmas nube and have played almost every day since late January of 2015. I'm not very good because of my reflexes and eyesight. I also have periferal neuropathy, a nerve condition that causes your hands and feet to go numb. I played alone for 8 months because I had zero skills and didn't want to be the guy that people didn't want on their fire team; bad KTD ratio. Eventually I got better ( thanks to gameguy1973) and recently I started going to Iron Banner but I was never able to complete the bounty requiring you to get the highest score - until tonight. So don't get discouraged if things don't go your way. If an old fart like me can do this you good players can do anything.
Edit: Just wanted to take a minute and thank you guardians for all the nice comments, support, friend requests and invitations to clans. I'll try to respond where appropriate. To you few doubters I'll try to post something on YouTube to prove my age. Got to get the camera back from my daughter.
Edit: Didn't need the camera, I used my iPad to record and post to YouTube. We old dogs can learn new tricks.

Congratulations and well done! I also found the top score part of the IB bounty to be the hardest one to do.... follow by special weapon kills because I love my primary too much! Happy to run KF with you if you ever need an extra person to fill the team! :D (or for entertainment value as I pride myself on my ability to fall off platforms during jumping puzzles)

You are an inspiration sir! At 50, I always thought if I weren't the oldest person playing there probably weren't too many that were older. You are never to old to have fun shooting some alien races in the noggin'! I was lucky enough to get invited to the Alpha and have been playing ever since. 1 AntwortenKeep gaming...There is plenty to do when you retire, but I [u]will[/u] choose gaming (its <10 years away). Got 150K gamerscore on XBOX and recently converted to PS4 (for the Taken King ironically). Started Christmas 2012 and don't intend to stop until they pry the controller from my rigor mortis hand :-)

Some of my friends encouraged me to play more Crucible. I was born without around half of my left arm, but im lucky to have my elbow. I could never really aim which is why I only did PvE cause i dont need to aim. Once when I found out I could use my left leg to aim in the scope, I was dominating crucible. I now have a positive KD and im at the top of the leaderboards most of the time. I never really knew that there were gamers out there who are as old as you.

1 AntwortenI just read your community focus and had to comment. I just turned the BIG 50 in April and was thinking maybe I should hang up my controller. Your article has made me change my mind : ) I, like you am not very good at PvP but I try my best to help the team by capping zones and trying not to die. Slowly I have improved my game and last night in IB I had a 25 kill game and lead my team to victory! It was a great feeling.

2 AntwortenYou are inspiring my friend. I am 46 and always avoid telling ppl my age when I team so I don't feel like "that guy". Whatever "that guy" is... probably just the guy in my head telling me that all the pups with lightning thumbs will not want to play with me. I feel you on the Crucible/Iron Banner as I was intimidated after trying it back in Y1 and getting a message from a random team mate telling me how much I sucked. He was a d***head for saying it, but he wasn't wrong. So I stayed out of PvP for a long time. After a long hiatus and migrating to the One I lost the few amigos I played with and now generally solo, so I jumped back into PvP. I watched some immensely helpful videos from you tubers (thx TrueVangaurd, Mtashed, & others!) and started working at it. After starting with a K/D of around 0.5, I finally cracked 1.00 lifetime. Iron Banner was the worst thing and now is my favorite. Thank you for sharing your story. I hope to see you in there if you play on Xbox.
