What is it about the Witcher 3 that appeals to some and not to others?

They consider themselves amazing gamers because they beat dark souls, so they won't ever admit if they just suck at another game. Clearly a fault of the game.

I am loving the story so far, in both the main story and the side quests. It feels like doing things actually matter, unlike the besthesda rpgs. The combat is good, and many things make you think before taking action.

Some people like all out gameplay, and others like a game with a story. I've played all 3 Witchers and personally believe it's one of the top video game series ever. That said, I've also completed the first two Dark Souls and Bloodborne. You can't really compare the combat system from DS/Bloodborne and Witcher 3. There's only one thing you can compare the two in and that's difficulty. If an experienced DS player went in playing on the "Blood and Broken Bones" difficulty or even "Death March" for Witcher 3, then I personally believe they'd have a different outlook on the game as a whole (that's what I think though.. It may not though to others). Overall, both Witcher and DS are great series that have their own unique aspects that make them great, and should be well respected amongst all types of gamers.

My only complaint is that Geralt controls like a sack of Bricks trying to do ballet. It's basically the only reason I didn't buy the full game and returned my rental after 5 hours. Although I do know how good the story is thanks to a certain youtuber.

The main story line yes (or I think I'm still muddling around at level 18 doing quests) but most quests are small, self contained stories that don't have to do with much. The player has to actually care enough to put themselves in the world, and not just the story at hand.

Other people feel honestly overwhelmed with the massive amount of content, so they kind of... Give up. It's mostly the gameplay from what I've seen, though. When it comes to disliking the game, of course.
