Play the first few minutes of this vid and tell me you don't miss the days when Destiny's story was focused on exploration and discovery.
There was a real sensation that Bungie would gradually introduce us to a rich, dynamic universe, filled with intricate politics set in rich Haloesque set pieces like the Tower and Reef, & beautifully crafted environments like the Cosmodrome. 'Lord of the Rings in space' they said.
Then along came a shouty two-dimensional bad guy in a flying space rectum with an army of holographic zombies, and the rivalries between the Awoken and Humans, and between the Tower factions, and even between the enemy races and Fallen Houses, became forgotten. Tell me, honestly, that TTK's story isn't cheap & uninspiring (bizarre Grimoire cards linked to Calcified Fragments, not withstanding). All of that rich lore, and its promise of fascinating multidimensional stories lost to a simple 'good guys versus bad guys versus slightly different bad guys' grind.
What will YR3 bring, I wonder.
*Second Edit* Since this is now the top trender, and a lot of people still don't quite get what I mean. Those of us of a certain age remember hopping off a Pelican for the very first time, and taking a few seconds to follow Halo up out of the horizon and over our heads. Who can honestly say they didn't smile about finding a sci-fi world totally different from anything else we'd ever seen? Not just another Starwars/Star trek ripoff, but something totally new. That was over a decade ago, but the feeling stays with you long after the dated graphics and warthog rolls have faded.
For me, that feeling permeated the whole of Yr1; the music, the enemies, the NPC's, everything. The story was disjointed and raised more questions than it answered, but I wanted to know more. Yr2 has introduced a lot of new gameplay features (and nerfs), some are good, some are bad, but at the same time it totally abandoned that direction of mystery and adventure.
Some of you obviously prefer the straightforward good versus evil story- fair enough. But for me, I think Bungie's at their best when they make you feel like a tiny part of a big world, rather than just a tiny soldier in a big fight.

I miss year 1 PVP

The forever 29 struggles, finding a helm with infusion for Crota hard, getting never getting an elder cipher. Those were the days...

i do too man

1 AntwortenI remember opening up the game and feeling like I was going to find some badass shit and chill with my friends. Now I feel like some two dimensional asshole fighting a glorified turd. Dammit fam, i just came back today! Now I'm going to be -blam!-ing hooked due to hope of once again exploring. ~NotTheGreatNike

The carrot at the end of the stick has rotted away.

2 AntwortenI've been playing since February and it's only taken me 4 months to be tired of hearing year 1 this, year 1 that. The game is what it is now time to get over it or move on. Is the game perfect? No, but it's still one of if not the best console game out.
-
1 AntwortenNot really. The vanilla Destiny story was -blam!-ing awful, to the point where is basically didn't exist. You're just experiencing nostalgia for a time before we realized how badly Bungo bungled everything up.
-
So you didn't get the same feeling taking down oryx the first time...I know I did!
-
The thing I miss the most is being able to solar wind melee teammates off the cliff in VoG.
-
2 AntwortenI want them to update the old raids, so we can use that Vex armor in Year 2/3.
-
Never lost it. Always something for me to go back and look at. The scenery and questions surrounding the dreadnaught and Mars still calls me...

On a scale of 1- to salty how cheap is this load out I'm running? Universal remote Sniper Zombie apocalypse with healing perk Blink Tarantella chest piece Skip grenades The sliding perk on hunter Blink strike with backstab

I for one know how much I missed that feeling. I wasn't here then so I did in fact "miss it". Kind of wish I was around for the full experience of the Vault of Glass and Crota's End. Not to mention how badass some of the weapons were then. So just like me getting good at PvP, it is something I will never know. :(

2 Antwortenmusic, rewards, update after 3 months, weapons, balance, pvp didn't feel so laggy/sweaty, trials didn't seem so laggy/cheat filled/sweaty, elemental primary's, enjoyable raids that rewarded items that were all different and useful, nightfalls felt worth it, exploration was fun, patrolling was fun, strikes were fun, killing fallen was way more fun. I'm sooooo -blam!-ing sick of seeing hive and taken.. Hive and Taken. . . HIVE AND TAKEN!!.. We also had multiple destinations to explore. With each dlc, they lack new planets. Adding one place to explore is sooo -blam!-ing cheap on bungies part. We have spent $160 to get a dreadnaught, which is annoying to even be in now.

I think the only difference is that there's a lack of 'the chase'. In year one, we were all chasing the exotics, with lower drop rates keeping us from the carrot. We literally only had nightfalls and raids as exotic chances. This changed in year two. Partly because xur eventually brought everything, but also partly due to 3oC. So now, only the hardcore are chasing the perfect weapon rolls, and the elusive ship/shader/emblem cosmetics for completion sake. Destiny still feels the same for me...

I definitely miss it. That feel of wonder and exploration was what got me hooked on the game in the beta. Sure it was disappointing when the game came out and the story wasn't all there. But I saw an opportunity for Bungie to take the mystery and the vague aspects of the game and use them to propel players like me forward into an adventure that would rival those that were found in acclaimed novels and movies. This was supposed to be the kind of game where we could reminisce about bonds and memories of exploring and discovering things for ourselves. Now, it feels like a hollow shell of what it could become. Remember the atmosphere of Gjallarhorn, the crowned King of Exotic Weapons, the Atheon Toppler, and Crota Breaker. Remember when you sought one out for so long? That yearning to become more powerful than your enemies could ever imagine was what drove the game. For me, it really was about becoming a Legend. Now it's about checking bad guys off a to-do list for NPC's that don't do shit.

I miss it

Alot of yr2 is great and better than yr1. Some things i dont like so much like 3oc. The feeling of an exotic drop isnt what it use to be, when is the last time you saw an exotic drop reaction video on youtube. Infusion sucked at first and weapon parts drought almost made me quit altogether, but they fixed that. Im still here though having fun.

Year 1 was by far so much better than year 2. Sorry for the galley haters but I miss the days of grinding for that and thorn. Sure I was disappointed time and time again. But when you fried that much and finally get what you've been after you feel like one of the greats. I don't like how balanced crucible is now tbh. There should be a few guns that stand up better than others and they should be hard to get (like thorn, a guns that's been nerfed so hard and so many times it's practically a nerf gun). But hey, that's just me

This makes me a bit sad.
-
Games weren't so fkn laggy ! Lately lag is pissing me off , how is it that red or yellow bars are always on top?! Fkn ridiculous bungie . Bunch of monkeys
-
Yeah I miss it a lot. Was so much better than Y2 :(
-
I miss the mysteries in the VoG
-
Well, it's now almost year 3. There's nothing we can do to go back to year 1. Our nostalgia for year 1 we have to be forgotten. We will just have to embrace for what we have stored in the future. I believe that destiny has come a long way, and it's only going to get better.
