Play the first few minutes of this vid and tell me you don't miss the days when Destiny's story was focused on exploration and discovery.
There was a real sensation that Bungie would gradually introduce us to a rich, dynamic universe, filled with intricate politics set in rich Haloesque set pieces like the Tower and Reef, & beautifully crafted environments like the Cosmodrome. 'Lord of the Rings in space' they said.
Then along came a shouty two-dimensional bad guy in a flying space rectum with an army of holographic zombies, and the rivalries between the Awoken and Humans, and between the Tower factions, and even between the enemy races and Fallen Houses, became forgotten. Tell me, honestly, that TTK's story isn't cheap & uninspiring (bizarre Grimoire cards linked to Calcified Fragments, not withstanding). All of that rich lore, and its promise of fascinating multidimensional stories lost to a simple 'good guys versus bad guys versus slightly different bad guys' grind.
What will YR3 bring, I wonder.
*Second Edit* Since this is now the top trender, and a lot of people still don't quite get what I mean. Those of us of a certain age remember hopping off a Pelican for the very first time, and taking a few seconds to follow Halo up out of the horizon and over our heads. Who can honestly say they didn't smile about finding a sci-fi world totally different from anything else we'd ever seen? Not just another Starwars/Star trek ripoff, but something totally new. That was over a decade ago, but the feeling stays with you long after the dated graphics and warthog rolls have faded.
For me, that feeling permeated the whole of Yr1; the music, the enemies, the NPC's, everything. The story was disjointed and raised more questions than it answered, but I wanted to know more. Yr2 has introduced a lot of new gameplay features (and nerfs), some are good, some are bad, but at the same time it totally abandoned that direction of mystery and adventure.
Some of you obviously prefer the straightforward good versus evil story- fair enough. But for me, I think Bungie's at their best when they make you feel like a tiny part of a big world, rather than just a tiny soldier in a big fight.

I miss the original CBMM priority setup for PvP. This SBMM sh*t is nothing short of the redbars paradise.
-
I miss the original voice of the ghost. I stopped playing Destiny on my Xbox One and bought a PS4 and started playing after the Taken King came out. "We've woken the Hive" does not sound the same. I wish they would give us the option to choose between the two voices. Also, I do not miss the grinding. I did not enjoy grinding for days and not receive anything. I miss the Icebreaker. I love that sniper.
-
Agreed, they had problems in the beginning sure but the direction they were headed was perfect. But now they are too busy pandering to people with nerfs and buffs they lost sight on the massive adventure
-
I miss the noobness of y1. I miss not knowing wdf was out there. I miss unleashing my super for the first time in something call the crucible and wondering why the hell am I on fire and what the point of this. Then 5 matches later killing someone and self reviving from death and wondering how the hell they did that. Then actually reading the nodes in said super. I miss being in the cosmodrome and seeing a lvl 15 and following them around for 20 minutes. I did that with one guardians in the drome and going up and down that first buildings steps waiting for the enemies to respawn and coming back up, I did that for 10 minutes and figured out he was farming, I have no idea what to this day. Maybe engrams. I also miss trying for about and hour to beat the black garden, then finally doing it. I miss when I was given the strangers rifle and never unequpping it because it was awesome. Thats what I miss.

5 AntwortenBearbeitet von A high-value target: 6/13/2016 11:55:48 AMIf you miss year one start a new character. Play until level 34 and then delete it. Repeat as necessary until your thirst for year 1 feeling is quenched. Just don't moan on here with rose tinted glasses. You're welcome.
-
I loved year one. Had this game from the start and that's when it was its best. I do still love the game though. Play as much as i can and can't wait for Rise of Iron.
-
Yes. The unknown in year 1 was good, until I realised it wasn't by design. It was because they cut the game to shreds for profit. That aside, I feel like the character just have essay too much manoeuvrability now. The maps in PvP feel even smaller than before because of this and it just ruins the flow of the game imo. Only thing better about year 2 is the umber of loot drops, but they are still dependant on RNG bullshit.

That Halo story gave me a weird fuzzy feeling in my stomach.

I grinned for three months for a Pest Control Matrix. Good ol days.

Good points buddy but i mean story telling has come its way its 1 of tge biggest discussion to date hope 4 Destiny 2 to go further into the world!

1 AntwortenI also miss year one. Yet at the sane time I don't. They are making it so the story evolves slowly. In year one we were under dogs, fed up with being pushed back. And so we fought. It was hard to find exotics because they were relics of an older age. Near the end of year one we hand fought back. And finally room to breath. In year two it was instead out turn to attack. We ended figuring out how to make new and stronger weapons from what we could find. These new 'Shiner' weapons are our works. We molded them and shaped them. And the dreadnaught is just as vast as earth or the moon or any other place its just more squished together. If anything its opened many questions than year one did from me just by scanning things. And sure it lost that sense of wonder at observing a new world. But now instead it makes us wonder what's out there, and WHY this this all has happened. And year three seems to be following this trend too. Reclaiming what once was ours, and maybe even making old enemies into new allies , like the fallen in House of Wolves.

2 AntwortenWas happy to see Y1 go. But the music really brought me back to the actually good times in Y1. Really miss the soundtrack and the challenge that was max level. April update has the many sources of high level light idea on point, but its just much too easy to get there. I'm admittedly i'm only 325 light but my light progression has no signs of slowing down.

37 AntwortenBearbeitet von Tormented_Anus: 6/13/2016 1:22:50 AMI laugh at all the people who praised TTKs improved storytelling just because it included some pretty cinematics. TTKs story was no better than vanilla Destiny's. How did the Cabal get wind of Oryx's arrival? Why did they decide to attack him? How did they get past his fleet and energy beam to crash their ship into the Dreadnaught? Why did only one Cabal ship attack? Edit: ok, some valid answers were given to my questions, but what I meant was why didn't Bungie give us another cinematic showing us the Cabals' point of view? Just like how Halo 2's story focused on the Covenant. Why do I have to read grimoire to get the story. And why does Oryx speak English? Crota nor any of the other Hive or Taken do. Here we have the most malicious, power hungry being in the galaxy, infused with the blessing of the Darkness...speaking English. Oh wow. I'm terrified.

I miss the old orbit music after you solo the nightfall.

Honestly, I feel like Bungie has lost that magic that came with vanilla Destiny. I didn't really notice it until a few months after TTK dropped. I can't really explain it because of how many things have changed but the only word I can find is, " hollow " or " wrong. " Don't get me wrong, year 1 had a lot of problems but that was Destiny. You either loved it or hated it. And I loved it. But now after Bungie's desperate attempts at making everything better, for me, they've ruined it in a way. I've been here through thick and thin, having played across two platforms and marching through the content droughts but now, I don't feel that ambition with Rise of Iron. That's coming from a guy who has stayed up until the launch of both HoW and TTK ( wanted to for TDB but ended up having to go to sleep early and get up at like 8AM. ) with 1700+ hours and still playing often. But for the first time, i'm not excited. I'm not saying that like one of those " Destiny is dead " people, because it's seriously not, i'm just trying to explain how i'm feeling about one of my favorite games. Anyways, that's my two cents.

6 AntwortenThe main problem with Year 2 Destiny is Three of Coins. Tell me once in Year 2 that you have been screaming cause you got an exotic from the engram? Year 1, even a No Land Beyond of Dragons Breath made me excited as all hell to see it pop up under my name. Now exotics are way to easy to get that it lost it's value of "exotic"
-
Lol i was the first person to like this post. The next day its on like 180 likes
-
I missed elemental primaries and flipping my shit when I finally got that one exotic I was grinding for from straight up RNG. Three of coins are awesome but still doing 50+ strikes and finally getting an exotic was amazing.
-
Yeah. I know what you mean.

9 AntwortenThe one thing I miss the most from y1 is the music. They shot themselves in the foot by getting rid of Marty. His talent is definitely missed.
-
Amen preach, brother! The old Year One had much better art style and soundtrack. Not that the Year Two stuff is bad, just that Year One is more iconic and gets me right in the feels.
-
1 AntwortenYeah I had a certain awe to it but with ttk they made the hive look dirty and grooms instead of like ancient space kingdom people. The music does not evoke the same sense of peace mystery and awe that the yr1 soundtrack did. I'm happy to say I'm loving the more yr 1 art style of Rise of Iron and we can only hope the music is as good as yr 1.
-
2 AntwortenAbsolutely. There was a certain magic that year one had (specifically vanilla and the dark below) that just can't be repeated
-
5 AntwortenI feel like the music has a lot to do with the different feel. I remember enjoying the ambiance all through Y1 gameplay. I muted the music shortly after downloading TTK. It just didn't feel right.

1 AntwortenBearbeitet von Zombie_Pt-0: 6/13/2016 9:03:47 AMTTK music makes me sick. It's the first time in a long time that I wish the title screen, in a game that I play, didn't have music. At first I was fine with it but ttk music has nothing to do with patrol, or my favorite, crucible. The title screen music must relate to the entire game as a whole, not dlc.
