Do you think it's a good idea?
Personally I think it's going to be very annoying for developers. Two more consoles to optimize their games for.
Will there be exclusives for these new consoles considering they'll both be much more powerful?
How expensive do you think they'll be, because from what I've heard the new systems are supposed to be something like 4x more powerful than the originals.
What do you think #gaming? Looking forward to it or do you think it'll ruin this generation of gaming consoles?

I think that while they have the potential to sell well with core gamers who are more than willing to shell out money for the next big thing, that introducing these mid generation consoles brings the risk of negative impacts on development and optimization of future games. For a lot of console gamers, the one time expense of a console is a major selling point, and people like myself expect to be able to play future games with a reasonable level of performance.

Depending on the price and power of the new consoles, I might have to shelve my PC build. I've always wanted a really powerful gaming machine, but in the comfort of a plug and play console. So if it's good enough, a PC won't be needed for a little while longer.

4 AntwortenGuess it's time to shell out $1000.

2 AntwortenThey should hold off for a while. Not this early

3 AntwortenSince Xbones run Windows 10 the Scorpio is basically a console with the power of a PC that can be developed for as easily as a PC. Both Microsoft and Sony probably have plans in place to prevent the downfall of current Xbone and PS4 models.
-
its very good don't hate if you can't afford it
-
7 AntwortenIf the Scorpio is 4x stronger, does that mean we'll finally see a better render distance within games? I mean, if we look at Fallout 4, then shadows and shit would literally fall in place right before you. That's a huge immersive breaking issue. I'd like for games to be able to make more stuff visible in the distance. And start with the shadows and lighting. If you look in the distance in Fallout 4, shit looks so ugly. I know that with objects such as moving animals it might be harder since the game will have to process its movements and whatnot, but clearly it should be possible to do with shadowing and lighting just fine, no?

4 AntwortenYes if there's decent trade in deals and if they aren't uber underpowered like these current consoles

1 AntwortenBearbeitet von SuperStormDroid: 5/30/2016 4:04:18 AMPC ports of Console games will become worse if these consoles become reality. I mean, look at the system recommendations for Batman: Arkham Knight on Steam. These imply that you absolutely need expensive parts (such as an Intel core i7) on your PC to run the game smoothly. Seriously, AAA gaming on PC is looking to be expensive these days. That is why I support indie devs. At least they know how to keep the minimum requirements low.

2 AntwortenThe first report I read on the PS 4.5 said all new games must work on both systems, no PS 4.5 exclusives. Remember it's not like PC games where anyone can release anything, you want your game in the PSN store or in a nice shiny blue box on the shelf then you MUST do what Sony say and I guess Microsoft are the same.
-
Better be a hell of a trade in credit of these new powerful consoles are coming soon.
-
They've already said that there won't be any exclusives, (at least for the 4.5).
-
2 AntwortenAs ReviewTechUSA said, if you're going to make your consoles incrementally upgradable, you might as well switch to PC.

6 AntwortenIf I was a Playstation guy, I probably wouldn't bother with "Neo", because from what I've gathered there aren't many changes. The only thing that would get me to get the "Neo" is what Dev support would be like. Since I'm an Xbox guy though, if the "Scorpio" or the 4x more powerful Xbox than the Xbox One actually is a thing, than that to me definitely warrants an immediate upgrade. 4x power is pretty damn substantial. I'm not saying that as in "Her durr I want a more powerful Xbox than Playstation, PS suks, lol". But I'm saying that as just a more powerful console in general to handle the games we have now better and it would actually make the Xbox worthy for a 6-10 year life cycle...not a 3-4 year cycle. And as far as the Xbox "Slim" goes, waste of money...unless it is a "Slim" version of the "Scorpio". Which I don't think it is.

1 AntwortenBearbeitet von Sora Orth: 5/29/2016 2:26:10 PMGood consepts, going to be terrible in practice What's going to end up happening is it forces Devs into a crossroad. They take full advantage of the new, up to date hardware, and abandon potentially millions of consumers who haven't/won't upgrade. Or they work with what has more buyers (for at least a few years the vanilla systems) and make small or no additions for updated systems, making it a waste of having a new system, and time and money optimizing for 2 new systems. Nintendo's updated 3ds is a good exsample of goods and bad, for one it lets talk the DS play some fantastic games like Xenoblade chronicles and Hyrual Warriors, however there's like 6 games made specifically for it (2-3 if download games aren't included) What I'm worried about is that Sony and Microsoft would do about marketing the games for both systems. In Hyrual Warriors case, it's marketed that It can be played on old and new system, where it runs like utter trash on old systems and creeps the line of being unplayable. I have a good feeling Sony and Microsoft will have buckets of problems with this. Hell, activision has already done with with last gen BO3, where it's laughable on why they wasted there time and money on that embarrassing garbage.

Bearbeitet von Luxfore: 5/29/2016 6:18:32 PMIt just natural progression rushed because of Sony, think about it. From xbox 360 orginal to xbox slim were all just updates to the console. Each one brought a "new" upgrade to the console. All be it something small like less noise or smaller size stuff changed. Yea, it'll be annoying for developers, but blame Sony for pushing the 4.5 "early".
-
Terrible idea this early
-
8 AntwortenAll the playstation fanboys are saying no because the new xbox is supposed to be more than twice as powerful as the new ps
-
16 AntwortenConsoles are already three years old. They should just wait until 2019/2020 and do a new console altogether with 20x the power. This year/next year should just be a slim or maybe a 4K box (not gaming, just video).
-
Bearbeitet von kenjikussano: 5/29/2016 2:21:36 PMI vote no and tbh, VR is also so boring, I don't want more of those lame demonstrations on Sony Conferences, would rather know.more about new AAA games
-
Realistically, scrap them, wait another 1-2 years then release them as a new console, Just because you were 2 and 3 years late to 8th gen doesn't mean it's right to pull this trash In fact you know what when the NX (the console that will be on the normal cycle) comes out label it as a 9th gen console then bully Sony and Microsoft for the next few years "so Sony when is your 9th gen console coming out"
-
I've heard 499.99 for ps4 and will play 4k movies. But who knows until its officially announced
-
2 AntwortenModern games run like ass on these "next gen" consoles. I'm all for it if it means they're going the same route as the last generation console. Making consoles with powerful hardware that can run games well for years down the road. Playing through Far Harbor recently showed me how necessary new consoles with better hardware are.
-
It will be fine IF developers don't also try to continue to make games for xbox360 and ps3 and current gen, and next gen(?)
-
Good idea? Lol yeah no. But prolly necessary. Consoles are pretty far behind, They know that and wanna try to catch up a bit. Plus that means even more money then the usual Normal console and then slim selling method. So yeahhh I'm not getting the slim XBO till I know for sure if a 2017 version is coming out or not.
-
3 AntwortenI don't think I'll get another console for at least 3 years, but nothing bad can really come from this.
