What we have heard from republicans is strenuous insistence that the military has been weakened and is in bad shape in the past 7 years and republican presidential candidates have called for "rebuilding the military". Well then, let's have a look at some facts.

The US currently already spends more on its military than the next 8 countries COMBINED, even if you cut that figure in half, they would still spend more than twice as much as China. On top of all this, we have deficit hawks that try to scaremonger about the budget deficit. So ok, let's reduce the deficit (which has already been happening for the past several years now), republicans say cut everything, but if you suggest cutting where the money is being mostly spent, they go ballistic. They say cut food stamps and welfare, yet they both only make up less than 1% spending. So buy their logic, cut social expenditures, but if you suggest cutting the biggest bloated social expenditure, they recoil in horror.
Marco Rubio claims that they have the smallest army since WWI, and Mitt Romney claimed that they have the smallest navy since WWI, except what both these men don't realize is that less weaponry does not mean less power, the military m also have less horses, less bayonets, less muskets, less telegraph machines etc.
So I implore, do you really think they need to "rebuild the military"?
Discuss.

Number of missions, sorties, deployments, humanitarian relief missions etc. Willing to wager it's more than the next 20 countries' militaries accomplish. Point being we use the crap out of our military folks and equipment and yes a ton of it is decades old, the number of places we send them and things we have them do seems to remain constant while resources diminish. If Congress/whichever administration continues to use it, yes it should fund it.

You don't have as much upkeep when you stop wasting resources meandering off to wars afar.
