Yes. Aiming the gun is easy
Yes. The range can be annoying
Yes. Almost anyone can use it effectively from day 1
But being a GOOD shotgunner isn't easy. Top tier shot gun players have immense skills in movement, pressuring opponents, and split second decision making.
I'm not defending shotgunners because I am one. Most people who know me, know that I snipe 99% of games. But it's kind of bullshit to discredit the skill set of another player.
I personally find using shotguns effectively very hard due to my passive nature, so when people make the statement that they take "no skill"... well I must just suck really bad. Right?
Watch the video, actually listen to my argument, then debate it all you want.

Who cares? Still does not take as much skill and Gears of War Destiny is a joke.

NLB - Shotgun meta, for sure!

Some maps are great for shotguns. The other 90% cater to sniping. That's why I usually rock the old trusty 1000y, since everywhere a sniper is pointed is a sniper lane. But on the off chance the broken map rotation throws a shotgun map into the rotation like sector 618 I'll gladly knock the dust off the old conspiracy theory or party crasher and run suicidally all over the map. There all fun weapons and it's nice to take a break from the slow paced game play of snipers of osiris.

movement mechanics.

The reason I stopped Shotgunning in house of wolves is because I realized how broken and easy they are to use. And I stand by that today.
-
Agree. Shotgunning is all about space knowledge and getting close without getting killed. I use shotguns more than snipers, even though ever since snipers got nerfed I've been using them a lot more. They both take skill, it's just a different set of skills.

9 AntwortenI'm a Sunsinger Warlock and I agree with this post. Shotguns have always been my thing since day 1. I suck at sniping but I'm ok at up close and personal situation. That's why I run Hawkmoon for close and mid range. Even though I do shotgun, I still need to learn how to effectively approach a target and I think that's where the skills kicks in. True Vanguard does narrow it down with his Fusion rifles and how he does it. Using cover and his jet pack, he can swiftly wall out enemies and take them out 1 by 1. Thing about shotguns is that if you see someone running towards you with one, just jet pack or double jump back wards so you can create a gap between you and someone else. My logic is that, shotguns are not scruby and it's the salt that is creating the hatred. For those of you who still thinks that they are scruby, look at your favorite 1000 yard stare, LDR, or Longbow Synth. then come back to me. (Aim assist game too OP)

I can use anything..... Sniper, fusion, shotgun yep painfully average with everything.

Even though my earlier posts were saying shot gunner= scrub. Remembering previous experience apart from invective and that shotguns are actually a pain to do well with.

Generally speaking both shotguns and snipers take skill. I have used both for a very long time and there is a destinct difference between the type of game you need to bring to the table to make each work. Take a look at shotguns . there is a huge difference trying to kill an opponent defending or on the offence. Most people will be very successful with a shot gun when they use it on the defence . Rely on your exceptionally good primary and only pull that shotty when you are being rushed. That will work wonders on your K/D . But if you are engaging an enemy you will need abilities and loads of skill to come out alive. Engaging an enemy more often than not means engaging more than 1 enemy. Its rare when more 1 enemy actually rushes you . So you are at an emediate disadvantage. Challanging them in lanes is crazy so you need to move like a shadow ( nighstalker evade and invis or bladedancer invis or kephirs sting) , move like ping pong ( titan twiglight garrison ) and slide like micheal jackson to successfully engage enemies . I have mained shotties in year 1 and switched to snipers after the severe nerf. I never liked sniping . Why ? Not because i cant aim for shit but because of the passive nature of a sniper . I love being aggressive charging like a bull. BUT i found sniping to be MUCH kinder on my K/D . You DONT expose yourself with every encounter and you can OHK everything. I mean everything at any range. i was very reluctant to change the nature of my playstyle but with the TTK nerf to shotguns it bacame a must for Trails. You have max armor titans and ramlocks running around an they can survive point blank shots to the chest . Add to that the warlock immediate overshield in cqc and your slow firing shotty is not competetive. a lock can punch you twice before you can shoot him twice. Different story in 6vs.6 matches. There shotties work great because you run into enemies more often to make use of it. Point is : Shotties are harder to use effectively than snipers while sniping successfully on the offence is just as hard. Defensive playstyles are much safer and reward you with a good K/D. It boring but safe and effective. If you play smart you will mostly win an encounter. Its not very exciting bvut it gets the job done. Snipers are the meta because unlike shotties you can kill at any range.

4 AntwortenYou're ass at the game, and you play a huge part in why there are so many twats in the crucible. Side note: You steal this video too?

1 AntwortenFor all those campers out there, I'm that kind of a Guardian that will run behind you and gun you down with my shotgun. You'll never see me coming, because without Third Eye or that your eyes are constantly in the scope, you can't.

To be able to use a weapon, any weapon, takes no skill. To be able to use that weapon well. That takes skill. Doesn't matter what weapon type it is.

6 AntwortenAhem! GIGGLE MONSTER! AHEM! Bro.

Shotguns require no skill , movement does ... And !? A sniper has to know where to be , someone who uses a fusion also requires a lot of skill movement, sidearms not really . So !?

3 AntwortenI will NEVER understand why people always say things like "X takes no skill"! Like this is some kind of issue. I gravitate towards whatever lets me kill people easiest. At the moment that seems to be pulse rifle, fusion, LMG. I've experimented with all sorts though. I find using a sniper or shotgun much harder. I would suggest that using pretty much any weapon/weapon type takes skill, different kinds of skills. I like my pulse/fusion combo because it covers me at most ranges, long to mid for pulse, mid to close for fusion. Destiny PVP is a stressful, frustrating, and occasionally rewarding experience. Its kinda like trying to get sex. When you eventually have a good night and bring your A game, its worth all the embarrassment and frustration you've suffered.

I find both shotguns and snipers binary. Against weaker players I will wreck with either. Against players of similar skill it depends on the day. But it's still either smash or be smashed. I rarely go 50/50 trades in a game. Against better players I get wrecked. (In trials I mean) If I'm getting owned up front I switch from one to the other and try that. Or use my actual favourite secondary, Queen's Choice :) But I'm really not that good at PvP. So I have to try and put think my enemies as much as out play them.

Bearbeitet von Dr_Sorethumb: 5/11/2016 8:35:15 AMDifferent guns, different skills required to make them work. What the two share is that users of each consider the other to be a crutch and users of the other to be no skill scrubs. Party Crasher: "You can snipe with that" 1KYS: "The gun aims for you"

I totally agree, unless u Wombo combo and then shadestep to shotgun Thats fairy

3 AntwortenI agree with shotguns taking skill but viking funeral grenades take absolutely no skill :p BTW Im no master at sniping OR shotgunning but if you want to improve your shotgun game try running around with remote control ;)

Shotgunning and sniping are both not easy to execute properly. However, they are 10 times easier to get kills with than the boring useless slow TTK primaries (with the exception of some). That's the problem with this game. Shitty unreliable primaries.

Bearbeitet von WrathOfTheRoyal: 5/11/2016 6:37:54 AMOne thing i'd like to point out is that it's not quite the shotguns fault - it's bungie's map design. Nearly 3/4 of all maps in this game heavily support the usage of shotguns due to all the clutter on the maps rather than having lanes where primary-gunfights can occur. Not only that but most sub-par primaries are sub-par because they are most lethal in shotgun-range. Year 1 Auto rifles (- best used at shotgun range...result? you got shotgunned Handcannons (after they lost their ability to snipe)- best used at shotgun range....result? you got shotgunned Because of this, most people had to either resort to using a shotgun themselves to defend against the other shotguns, or learn how to snipe. Though most people haven't seemed to realize how effective sidearms can be at taking out shotgun rushers pretty damn fast. The shotgun rebalance has definitely helped in this situation for year 2 as now with well-placed shots you can definitely shut down a shotgunner charging straight at you. If you imitate these shotgun charging methods you will find that you will get gunned down a lot of the time. Additionally, due to all the map clutter, I switched to snipers because I found that (while fusion rifles were non-existent) to be the best way to avoid-and-or-counter shotguns because I was either away from the shotgun hotspots or able to get a body or headshot when they came around the corner for a quick kill. I adamantly believe that shotguns are currently in the right spot in this meta. Primaries can gun them down at fair ranges consistently with skilled shots, while shotguns still remain to be a very effective method of eliminating people in their range. If bungie didn't insist on this map design that plagues 75% of all maps, shotguns wouldn't be anywhere near an issue. There isn't much of a way to further nerf shotguns without removing them from existence, and I certainly don't think they need a buff. What we need is new map traffic and flow THEN rework shotguns entirely giving them some of their previous abilities back and opening up new effective loadouts.

Well same said about snipers. How else do you want to counter a shotgunner on short range. You youtubers should stay out of this mess seriously this is an ongoing war since the start of destiny. They both take skill.
