*puts on an antic disposition*
So today at work
Wal-Mart
this lady came in with two children: a 2-3 year old and a baby.
Apparently she didn't want to put the baby in the seat on the cart and just held her.
So she asked me to pick up the two year old and put him in the cart.
I was weirded out a bit by the request, but I know how to handle a kid without hurting them, and I like being helpful, so I did it and she went on her shopping way.
So I ask you:
If you were/are a parent, would you ever ask a stranger to hold your child?

Not for the sake of the child. (It's like two seconds and is in the hands of someone shopping at a grocery store). But I wouldn't ask out of avoiding being an annoyance
-
Would I fuk.

2 AntwortenNo, especially in the hands of an Offtopic user.

1 AntwortenDepends. If the child looks like it might have a bomb in it, no.
-
No. Trust no one.

>implying that I'll have one of those demons

2 AntwortenWhat would a stranger do, run away with it? There's not really any risk

2 AntwortenI just have one question, since you work at Walmart: Do you get paid under minimum wage?
-
I wouldn't, but not out of a lack of trust. I wouldn't want to burden someone else that may feel uncomfortable doing it.
-
Depends on the person to whom you trust
-
Yes. Although, it depends on how the person looks/acts.
-
Nope. Sorry I have trust issues
-
Well, I work at a museum, and I've had to deal with kids before (I had one grab my wrist and look at my watch the other day, bc the kid was apperantly obsessed with watches). But, I still wouldn't be comfortable with something like that. I'll gladly walk your kid around the exhibit and talk to them, but I'm not gonna babysit then while you use the bathroom.

2 Antworten
so today at work,
wall-mart

No offense, but... That kind of explains a lot.

I never would have helped that woman. That's a lawsuit waiting to happen. I was reluctant to hold people's cell phones when they handed them to me to show me various things (online prices and whatnot) when I worked retail. I'd never hold another person's child. I'd probably ask strangers to hold any children I ended up having though. Then I'd run away screaming "NO GIVSIES BACKSIES"
-
1 AntwortenEh. Kinda depends on the person. And the child.
-
Had to do it before, I'll do it again. Hamlet, you are still a gosh golly darn swell dude. 'N stuff.
-
If were for something that simple, and I felt like I could trust the person to accomplish the task, then sure.

All you did was pick it up and put it in a trolley... Not like she asked you to hold it whilst she went to the loo aka out of sight. Plus, Walmart uniform (i assume Walmart has uniforms) means there is a 99.99% chance that you work there, so if you did anything it would not be hard to work out who you are for the police. Also, much CCTV. In the circumstance that you have described, I don't see the issue. Is a tad weird, but nothing wrong with that.

I thought the poll was going to be "Would you pick up the child"

-blam!- no m8. Ain't nobody touching my kids but me

I would likely have helped her get the 2 year old in the cart. As a parent, it's not a big of deal. Helping people isn't a bad thing. Having said that, I would have observed the situation prior to getting involved. If it looked at all remotely suspicious, I wouldn't get involved. After all, you did say Wal-Mart. I rarely ever go there.
