Effective Sniping Requires: Mobility, a steady hand, good hand-eye coordination, and superb aim.
Effective Shotgunning Requires: Situational Awareness, Quick Reactionary time, and the ability to prioritize targets.
Now let me say this, I'm not saying shotgunning is harder then sniping. The average sniper is better then an average shotgunner. But a good shotgunner is definitely better then most snipers.
Sniping isn't as easy as it looks, but you have to look at a few things.
If you put a sniper at one end of the smaller hallway and a group of 4 on the other, a good sniper would have no problem taking them out 9/10 times that situation happens.
Now
If you put a shotgunner in a room with multiple exits with four enemies around him, they have to worry about a few things.
1. How many enemies are here
2. What equipment do I have to help me survive
3. Which enemy is closest, and which presents the biggest threat.
4. Is there anyway to get out of this alive, if not, how many can I take down.
Now before people attack me saying I posted this because I can't snipe, I usually play on striker titan, and shotguns compliment the class well, also because titan skating is extremely effective once learned. (As seen here https://youtu.be/3zuv1awyl0w)
Because the amount of hatemail I get for titan skating up to people at 100 MPH and sticking the barrel of my shotty down thier throat is ridiculous. (No I don't use Juggernaut, Shoulder Charge builds up way to much speed for me not to use it, I dont tank the shots, I just move fast enough to disorient people)
Basically, in terms of learning curve.
Good Sniper > Good Shotgunner > Average Sniper > Average Shotgunner

18 AntwortenFusion rifle takes more skill than both.

Well if you are warlock then shotgunning is pretty easy because if the shotgun doesn't kill in 1 shot then the melee would map you

7 AntwortenWhat most scrubs in this game don't understand is that running up to somebody and pressing a button is not being a good shot gunner A good shot gunner is someone who can close distances and use their jump and slide to not just get one kill, but get a kill, then evade someone else, then kill them, then jump out of the way, then get another kill, etc. It's something that isn't easily described in words, but if you give a shotgun to someone that only snipes, and give a shotgun to someone who is a good shotgunner, there is a huge difference in gameplay, no matter what anybody says. So no, not "everyone" is good with a shot gun, not "everyone" is good with a sniper God this community is frustrating

Corner-Camping with a shotgun takes 0 skill at all. Now moving around the map, actively pursuing targets? That takes skill. Especially with the excessively large amount of snipers in the Crucible these days.

1 AntwortenAll u have to do is crouch so ppl won't see u on mini map or slide or jump. Not that hard
-
lol. A good sniper takes everything you listed about being a good sniper AND all the stuff you listed about being a good shotgunner. You don't need situational awareness when you spend a large chunk of time without radar? You're going to snipe someone when you weren't fast enough to get your scope up before they killed you? You're going to survive an encounter when you don't prioritize the shotgunner darting at you over the AR 100 ft away and reloading? Bullocks. Further, you act as though hallway camping with a sniper is the same as sniping; it's not. It's just the equivalent of shotgun corner camping. You don't disorient people, you just abuse this game's sad lack of balance.
-
Each requires a ton of skill to master it, sniping is more of a precision skill while shot gunning is staying elusive and getting in positions where there are little ways to counter it. When you watch the people running sweats it's awesome to see because there are players who can be equally successful doing both. They both do require map positioning to put them at a distinct advantage

I fully agree with you. I main a shotgun and I am a decent sniper, so I fully understand the skill sets required to use both weapons. Of course, I dont shotgun with a striker Titan. Defender Titan, no back up plans, surpressor grenades, and shotguns.

Bearbeitet von Muphsi: 4/21/2016 5:02:00 PMI get a lot of shit from my friends and people in this comminity for running shotgun. I've always been a superior shotgunner than a sniper but I have learned how to snipe pretty well. My buddy streams and I help him out from time to time and I always run invective or a shotgun becuase it complements teams that se snipers very well, being able to handle stressful close quarter situations is much harder than sitting back and popping head shots off from across the map. My friends say shotgunning is easy because the reticles take up half your screen and you just need to point the gun and it kills them so easily but by that logic sniping is easier. Shotgunning and sniping are very different and there is not one that is harder and easier. It all depends in the player. I keep trying to convince them shotgunning is not easy and they get lucky kills saying "see look how easy it is" I want custom games so I can shot them how hard it is against 3 or more people surrounding you or facing a veteran shotgunner.
also for some reason people think that people who run shotguns can't snipe. That is not true it is just better to not have triple snipers on your team and good counters for close quarters.
4 Antworten*In thick Russian accent* Shotgunning not hard. Point the end with the hole at other person, pull trigger, watch the gibs fly. Thanks FPS Russia!

1 AntwortenI think you could grab a shotty and get a few kills easier than you could with a sniper but to be good at either requires some gaming knowledge and skill so pick you preferred gun and fire away. I don't think one is more skilled than the other though, my kd hasn't change whatever I use, including fusions rifles, though fusions are fun right now.

Truer words
-
I do both (though I enjoy fast paced shotgun combat more). In my experience they both take skill but using a sniper rifle on a high level takes more overall.
-
I'm a sniper and I agree with this statement. But, I also believe that getting kills with a shotgun is much easier than a sniper. The part that makes it harder is staying alive. Staying alive is just as important as killing IMO.
-
Perhaps more people would agree if the average sniper wasn't someone head-glitching in the same spot over and over with 1000-Yard Stare and the average shotgunner wasn't someone camping in the corner of a room for the whole game with Conspiracy Theory-D. Then again, I've had many hate messages for using Sidearms and even Fusion Rifles, I guess buffing them was an absurd move. If someone wants to prove that they have skill with a Sniper, use something with low AA in a very mobile style. Skill with a Shotgun? Use The Chaperone. Skill with a Fusion Rifle or a Sidearm? Just turn up to a match with the damn thing and you'll have the other players cowering in fear.
-
Back when I was REALLY bad at crucible all I used was a shotgun because it was easier to get kills. But I could only maybe get one kill with any other weapon. Now I've gotten better with a larger variety of weapons and I rarely use my shotgun anymore. I'm slowly getting better at sniping, and I think it takes more practice than shot gunning.

1 AntwortenShotty scrub. Fusions are the true test of power
-
You can pick up a shotgun and slide shot gun or what ever else to get consistant and good with a sniper it takes a lot of practice
-
Lol you're serious? I hardly ever use a shotgun and I picked up Invective with my Voidwalker. Went on a spree with that and it was a piece of cake. Shotguns are ridiculously easy to use in this game.
-
The points for shotgunning could be said exactly the same for sniping. Take a game mode like trials always handy to take out the strongest player first as you know the other two will more than likely be trying for the revive
-
Bearbeitet von Valkorion: 4/21/2016 4:26:13 PMDoesn't matter to me since I suck at using both of them lol
-
Is this bait? Feels a lot like bait. Situational awareness, quick reaction time and ability to prioritize targets also apply to snipers, probably even more so.

Anyways, being a good shotgunner or what ever, I guess it's better than equipping a sniper. You never mentioned any tier in sniping, but running and gunning drag scoping constantly and hitting shots consistently? Being a good sniper>good shot gunner. There's so many variables. Easy mode= some sort of evasive munover + shotgun. I suck at shotgunning, I can still stomp in sweats with that setup even if I miss 25% of my shots.

2 AntwortenDoes sniping not require situational awareness?

All I read there was "I use shotguns cos I can't snipe for shit."

Blink shotgunning is really hard now
