Effective Sniping Requires: Mobility, a steady hand, good hand-eye coordination, and superb aim.
Effective Shotgunning Requires: Situational Awareness, Quick Reactionary time, and the ability to prioritize targets.
Now let me say this, I'm not saying shotgunning is harder then sniping. The average sniper is better then an average shotgunner. But a good shotgunner is definitely better then most snipers.
Sniping isn't as easy as it looks, but you have to look at a few things.
If you put a sniper at one end of the smaller hallway and a group of 4 on the other, a good sniper would have no problem taking them out 9/10 times that situation happens.
Now
If you put a shotgunner in a room with multiple exits with four enemies around him, they have to worry about a few things.
1. How many enemies are here
2. What equipment do I have to help me survive
3. Which enemy is closest, and which presents the biggest threat.
4. Is there anyway to get out of this alive, if not, how many can I take down.
Now before people attack me saying I posted this because I can't snipe, I usually play on striker titan, and shotguns compliment the class well, also because titan skating is extremely effective once learned. (As seen here https://youtu.be/3zuv1awyl0w)
Because the amount of hatemail I get for titan skating up to people at 100 MPH and sticking the barrel of my shotty down thier throat is ridiculous. (No I don't use Juggernaut, Shoulder Charge builds up way to much speed for me not to use it, I dont tank the shots, I just move fast enough to disorient people)
Basically, in terms of learning curve.
Good Sniper > Good Shotgunner > Average Sniper > Average Shotgunner

3 AntwortenYou mean blinking and sliding into range is that difficult?

Me? I can take out a sniper, get in a good position, twoshot a bunch of people, gett maybe 1-2 headshots, and afew half-deads with one shot. I'm no ninja, I can't headshot three people, and if they're looking at me before I have my crosshairs on their body, I have a 50% chance of living unless I have a teammate. With shotguns, lets say this. I went into a rift match in pantheon (the map of snipers) With the universal remote and Her Champion (two shotguns, champion is basically a Party Crasher +1) and we mercy ruled that match, I had a 6.67 K/D. (Funny thing, I main FRs) The point of this is that even reducing my range to shotgun range at this point in Y2 (which is melee distance about) i can do good. But my 2nd best crucible weapon is my fists (as says my stats, only second to my handcannon kills) and I'm used to medium/close range combat, I blink too, which confuses enemies when you do it over their head especially if they snipe. I don't use snipers in any game but destiny (I've gotten one sniper kill in CoD as a whole, not that I play that many of them) and in destiny they are my least used special weapon (even to sidearms, at least at the moment) and yet, I can use them well. The point is not which one's better or worse, it's that its easier to be an average sniper than an average shotgunner, but if you're good enough, a shotgunner can beat any/everyone.

As a sniper, I agree

I agree with being a good sniper is better then a good shot gunner but being a average shotgunner is better then a good sniper. Big difference between good and average

7 AntwortenI'm a ranged player so I may be a little bias, but I'm pretty sure that it takes more skill to be a sniper. Sniping is more than just patrolling obvious sniper lanes. Even average snipers should be able to kill people when they are trapped in elongated hallways with little cover. MOST snipers don't venture away from this, but good snipers can hit/kill targets with minimal shots while that target is on the move running/jumping/etc. Shotgunners may have to deal with moving targets, but their weapon peppers an area, making it MUCH easier to hit moving targets. While its true that it does take skill for a shotgunner to run into a room full of 4 people and wipe them out, more often than not, its not a good decision for shotgunners to run into close quarters combat when they KNOW they are outnumbered like that. I would never do this when I was using a shotgun, unless I knew I had a grenade or 2 to stick onto an opponent or I was able to go invisible in order to catch them all off guard. Even then, I would more than likely choose to run and draw one or two of them into a situation much more favorable to myself. I'm not doubting that shotguns take skill to use. They do. It is just an entirely different skill set if you want to have a positive KDR. And I don't think the skill set is really that comparable to snipers. Sniping puts emphasis on anticipating target movement and hitting a small target at long range, often while it is moving; shotgunning often involves suprise/ambush tactics, and because of the way shotguns function vs. snipers, and because you are in close quarters, there is much less anticipation and marksmanship involved period. Now, with reduced ranges and no shot packages for shotguns, its more about the timing of your shot than anything else, or your ability to evade your opponents shotgun to land the first shot. IMO, shotguns are more quick twitch skills whereas sniping is a truly artful blend of marksmanship, anticipation, and timing.

Thru both require a certain amount of skill. I primarily snipe in destiny, and when I switch to a shotgun I find myself dying in many more situations when I attempt to close a gap or to get in and out of an area after I initially strike. However, then you look at a guy such as Ramblinn, and he does it so effortlessly. There's no way I'm good enough to do the things he does with a shotgun. But don't get me wrong, sniping isn't easy either
-
I honestly think they're about equal. My opinion may be biased because I'm definitely more of a shotgunner, but I feel like they both take quite a bit of skill to be done right. It just depends on your playing style and what you happened to be best at. I get equally as frustrated when I lose a shotgun standoff or a sniper one. But you have to use that as motivation. Smoke a bowl to cool off if you need to. You're never going to make logical decisions when you're butthurt.
-
I agree without sentiments that good shotgunning takes significantly more movement skill, map awareness and grit. However I don't see a major difference in skill level between the elite destiny snipers, and the top shotgunners, it's just a different kind of player.
-
Shotgunning or sniping someone who doesn't have a shotgun or sniper out is low skill. Outplaying them when they are hardscoping or rushing you takes skill.
-
Ehh I think they take about the same amount of skill. It's just easier to be a decent sniper whereas being an extremely skilled and mobile sniper requires a lot of practice just as being an extremely skilled shotgun user
-
There are pros and cons to both of these, Shotguns have a close quarter 1-shot whereas snipers have a all ranges one shot, however, snipers require a head-shot for these, shotguns have a wider spread, whereas snipers have a single shot, however it also depends on play-style, a campy person with a sniper is annoying as is a campy person with a shotgun, however both these weapons have been nerfed and yes I will say it, I think they where over nerfed, shotguns IRL, in real life, have much more range, snipers have a far greater range and in most games have at least a chance or a guarantee of one-shot upper body and beyond, snipers in this game are meant to be long range but if you are skilled then you can go close quarters with them, ie, TrueVanguard/kjhovey,managator, and others, but there are skilled shot-gunners as well, it all really depends on how you use them, the movement nerf to snipers was horrible, the range nerf to the shotguns was a bit too much, and the removal of shot-package, also final round was a bit much they say but I don't think Luck In The Chamber was as bad, also it has a lot to do with the horrible maps we are given, a short-range map equals short-range weapons and so the use of shotguns, a larger map, say Frontiers, is more beneficial to snipers, they both have their strengths and I think they should both be buffed...

1 AntwortenShotgunning is a lot harder now, but Hunters and Warlocks with Blink are still obnoxious with it. Especially Hunters.

7 AntwortenWhich takes less skill: -camping in the back of memento with a longbow -maneuvering the hallways of firebase with a shotgun Which makes me want to drink bleach more while playing as or against it -camping in the back of memento with a longbow -maneuvering the hallways of firebase with a shotgun I think we all know the answer to both

13 AntwortenShotgunning takes no skill at all where u just pull the trigger when ur super close to someone where as being a pretty good sniper myself the I admit it's difficult and takes practice to land head shots let alone being quick about it. Anyone agree here?
-
5 AntwortenConspiracy theory doesn't take skill neither does party crasher but shotguns for the most part do take skill to use well
-
2 AntwortenI have to disagree. The mobility mechanics in this game make it really easy to get up in someone's face and simply point in their direction and pull the trigger. If it was something like mw3 mobility mechanics with destiny shotgun mechanics then yes it would take some skill, but we don't have any characters who are truely slow. All characters have some sort of speed to them so no, shotgunning in destiny does honestly not take much skill.

Nobody realized that juggernaut shotgun is practically the most unfair thing ever created
-
So true as a shotgunner that's how I always think/do for as a shotgunner there's little time to think its mostly instinct through reputation. I pulled a few clutches 1v3 they rushed and they -blam!-ed up. Lightning nades to close off area and damage an area than I go 300 spartan on them. I love it when my teammates who snipe say I'm a god at shotgunning and admit that rushing is only logical when you're me.
-
I think tonight I'm going to run shoulder charge with twilight garrison and my shotty and see how I do. Maybe I'll mix it up and use the chaperone.
-
I'm all about that close quarters combat baby. But what really matters is consistency. Anyone can get a kill with a shotgun, or a sniper. Doing it consistently enough to net points and win games takes skill, no matter what weapon you choose.

You forgot movement fundamentals and agility, how will you close the gap if you don't know how to get to the enemy the quickest way while taking the least damage?
