Short answer, none.
Long answer....
I have no idea why artifacts exist in Destiny. It appears as though artifacts are Bungie's equivalent to rings in Dark Souls. If this is the case, oh boy did they -blam!-ing butcher it! The difference is rings actually help your character and incentivize exploring and finding them, and don't punish you for not having one.
The only thing artifacts do in Destiny is give you somewhat of a reason to play the dumpster fire that is Court of Oryx; great concept, horrible execution. It's almost as if you knew nobody would give a shit about CoO after day 1, so you came up with this new armor slot just to make this activity seem important.
You don't even see your artifact other than on the 2-D model on your character screen. It makes me wonder why you actually bothered creating these models. If instead the icon was just a picture of a box:
a - It would make zero difference, and
b - you could instead use the artists' spare time making certain armor pieces change according to shaders
And don't try to tell me artifacts actually help your character. No I'm sorry, you're right actually, I just wouldn't know what to do if I my arc melees or my solar headshots didn't occasionally drop an orb.
These useless perks, aside from being perfect examples of what your idea of a perk has become, show just how half-baked of an idea these artifacts were. I can't decide what's more useless, exhumed or arc accumulator. Even more demonstrative of this the raid "challenges". All you have to do is switch brand holders on Warpriest, and everybody gets a fresh, max level artifact. What difference did that artifact make? Aside from being a necessary component of you level (which begs the question, WHY), it makes zero difference to your character.
The artifact is just another thing for players to chase after, because you think instead of actually giving us content, the grind for a pointless item would keep us here long enough for you to wave a big number in our face and say "see? people love to play our game". Why, after almost 2 years, have you not grasped that people will stay and play if you give them a reason to? You wouldn't need all these artificial ways of extending playtime if you just gave us meaningful content. It's all there, too; nothing is stopping you from making this game whole.
Ranting aside, artifacts do have a lot of potential, just like a lot of things in Destiny. I strongly recommend that the devs play dark souls and take some notes. The idea of artifacts being an extra item that benefits your character instead some abstract number is a no brainer, and would be a welcome addition.
Please. In a game that's so strongly centered around loot, it amazes me that the investment and loot reward systems are the most half-assed aspects of the game. Git gud.

2 Antwortenmeh, if artifacts were hard to come by, then I'd be on the gripe-train with you. but I was literally swimming in the things before the update with them dropping at every raid challenge, .....and they still drop like crazy every where else. it was a reason to visit the court again, which, while not the best game mode, it was slightly amusing to see just how quick we could kill everything. and I will argue they DO have value --- let me explain. I usually like to run Intellect and Discipline on my artifact - BUT I have kept examples, and infused to high levels, of artifacts that are only intellect, disciplne, and strength. So; for example, my warlock in CoE this week, I wanted max discipline, so I simply switch artifacts to my discipline only artifact, and voila, max discipline w/out having to equip armor I don't like or change much around. Forget the orbs generating perk, that's stupid, or at most a nice side-bonus if it happens to align (I'm using void melee's) but artifacts are 99% of how I control my intellect, discipline and strength distributions w/out having to jack my armor sets around all the time. BUT - all that said, they could have accomplished the same thing assigning greater values to our class item or the ghost shell. regarding "divisible by 10" - sure, the computer automatically calculates your light level so whether it's divided by 10 or 7 or 8.2364 doesn't matter ---until you're pondering how to equip your loadout, and it's convenient knowing that 10 points of individual component light = 1 point on your characters total.

89 AntwortenThanks for the insight. I also think we could do a lot more with Artifacts. I'll pass your ideas along to the developers and add this request to Community Wishlist. Anyone else can also reply with ideas on how to improve Artifacts.

11 AntwortenI love artifacts they have the highest stat values allowing me to comfortably switch my stats with changing my guardian's appearance. All artifacts are are a way to customize your characters stats without having to changing their appearance.
-
I made this same argument some weeks back. The artifacts are useless. Many people dont agree, an also dont have any damn good reason why they are necessary for that matter. Friggin bungee.
-
I think it'd b cool if they could apply a burn to primaries, like gives arc damage to all primaries or make it all pulse rifles or something
-
1 AntwortenI think artifacts dont necissarilly need to change since their purpose was to make it so we have 10 items going into our light, this making it easier to calculate how our light would change with different level gear
-
Personally I think they either need to remove them or add burns onto artifacts for your guns. There'd be a couple sets: Primary Burns Special Burns Heavy Burns You get 1 of these on the artifact with: Arc Burn Solar Burn Void Burn This would allow players to either change the burn on their heavys/specials if they want, along with getting primary burns for their primary. They could also add exotic ones with 2 of these, but of course they'd have that life exotic perk or whatever. Also these don't always have to proc all the time. Having it be an option would be the best so if I don't want a solar special (or whatever perk/gun it's on) I don't have to have it on. If they did that it would enhance the grind, (so bungies happy) and make them more useful. (so the players are happy)

A reason to do court of Oryx 3 times and never do it again
-
2 AntwortenThey do help with stats like intellect, disiplin, and strength.
-
They serve as an extra way to create orbs of light. If you get a good roll, you could be an orb factory.
-
Yeah This thing is useless...
-
Stat boosts. Simple as that
-
it would be nice if they could give a specific stat up to +3 example equipping ragasts blade would grant +3 to your recovery stat it would add to making a build more unique increase the ammo picked up for a specific weapon type +1 to solar precision dmg something to make your individual characters better
-
Artifacts give you another option to increase int/dis/str drastically. Without them you wouldnt have so much options to go for a specific stat. I like them pretty much , because there's a great variety for them . Need more strength? Why not equip the one with +104 Strengh? You go for Intellect? Use the one with +103 Intellect. Ah thats to much Intellect now , better use that one with Int+72 and dis+40. And as long as they dont affect my characters look, i like them.

Artifacts are fine, REMOVE THE LIGHT LEVELS FROM CLASS ITEMS THOUGH! I really despise not being able to wear my old class items/dismantling the old ones
-
Totally agree, after I got to 330 I did court of oryx 4 times and got 3 335 artifacts, now I'll never got back to the court again cause there's 0 reason too. Artifacts are a complete waste of dev time and anybody who says they "love the extra orbs the artifact makes" you're so completely full of crap and you know it.

Any post with the phrase "dumpster fire" gets an automatic nod of approval from this guardian.

Too long to read when you answer your own question in the title

Short answer.... Lore? Maybe

4 AntwortenAnother Kabr Complaint post. Must be Wednesday.

Same thing with the ghosts man. We asked to have new ghosts skins and their dumbasses decided it'd be a good idea to put a light level on them. God forbid someone might want one of the actually colorful shells instead of using the same damn basically 3 shells that are infuseable. Light needs to be removed from Artifacts, Class Items, and Ghosts. Simple as that.
-
1 AntwortenSpeak for yourself. I love the extra orb drops from my artifact, as I've keep trying to maintain a Sunsinger build that generates as many orbs as possible. It makes for a great support class.
-
They certainly could have been something great and unique and are sorely underdeveloped, hope they can bring some great attributes and perks to them in the future.
-
A small piece of lore.

3 AntwortenI really think they were added to make the light level easily dividable by 10 lol There is no grind to get artifacts especially after this April update. There's only one useful artifact, and that's the one that gives you an orb when you precision kill Taken. The Solar/Arc/Void ones for precision would be nice if there were elemental primaries, but other than that... They're pretty useless. We could do with better perks at least or make them visible.
