TL;DR at the bottom.
Ok, so I've been browsing the forums recently since the update came out, and I've noticed a recurring trend among the people complaining about it. They're all talking about it like it's some expansion, when it's not. It's an update. Let me break it down for you:
In the whole of Destiny's history, only three expansions have ever been released: TDB, HoW, and TTK. That's it. That's all there is in terms of expansions. However, there have been perhaps a dozen updates now in Destiny's history, at least (I don't know the exact number but it's considerably more than the expansions). So, my question is this:
Why are all of you who are complaining treating this update like it's an expansion? It's not, it's an update. Updates are typically only meant to change game mechanics like weapon stats, subclass perk stats, and all that shebang. And that's exactly what this update did. And for the most part the changes are fine. I'm hearing good things about the weapon changes and I'm loving what's happened to the voidwalker. The improved infusion system is a big bonus too. And the popular Y1 weapons.
Essentially, the PvE content released alongside this update was just meant to be a nice little extra bit from Bungie to give you highly demanding PvE players something to bite on while the actual expansion is worked on and eventually comes (and to ensure that at least something 'new' is added within this 6 month period). But no. Not only were you guys ungrateful for bungie's little extra work, you flat out ranted about it on the forums, mere hours after it came out, and you judged it like a failed expansion when it wasn't anything of the such.
Truthfully the only thing I don't really like about this update is how PvP special ammo changes translated over into PvE. But, everything else is fine. However, after how stupidly a whole bunch of you responded to this update, I'll be seriously surprised if Bungie has the generosity to give you free PvE extras ever again. Because none of you deserve it when looking at your collective responses.
TL;DR - It's an update, not an expansion. At least be grateful for the PvE content you weren't even scheduled to get, and stop bitching. Learn the goddamn difference already.
EDIT: was honestly hoping this would be dead by now... Y'all been replying for days.
Man this post is so true please everyone in the forums should be like this guy

Bungie: It seems people want year one content. Bungie: *Thinking* Bungie Employee: I've got it! Let's give them Prison of Elders! They don't want Vault of Glass or the Crota's End strike. Er, I mean raid! We rule!!!!! Bungie Employees: *all together* We listen to the community.

7 AntwortenBearbeitet von Sportsfreak5022: 4/14/2016 10:46:54 PMI'm still waiting for people to realize that this is not free. Yes this dlc is an update and not an expansion (Can get behind this 100%, all their "expansions" are at best a small dlc), yes you pay nothing for the update directly, but it's not free, you must own TTK to play it. Companies release software updates for things like Microsoft Office, for free all the time. This update is an improvement to the existing software, ie. an expansion, it adds a few new features. You do not own microsoft office, but you download the free update and expect it to work, to your surprise the free update doesn't work without buying the base product to expand. Therefore, when you get an update, you already paid for it. This example doesn't even cover Destiny's microtransactions, which probably covered the cost of the update outright, and this is expanding TTK not destiny, no one with only the base game of destiny is able to play any of the content available. Not to mention the fact that according to Activision's reports, Destiny made more money on release week, than the planned $500 million to make the game for the whole "ten year plan".

4 AntwortenIt was marketed pretty heavily for a mere "update"...
-
it doesn't matter if it was either an update or an expansion, it was brandished as new content and its all re-skinned crap that gets boring after an hour of play, there's nothing new and exciting to complete, the new gear is a joke you can add light effect wow thanks i want to look like a prancing dim-whit and the armor is all re-skinned from year 1 and 2 so this update for "new content" doesn't bring anything new but a crappy customization and re-skinned shit and a pay to win item called sterling treasure. this game gives me Alser's and i hope this game gets better but it's looking grim and if the sequal is made i hope it wont be a pile shit that destiny has turned into.

1 AntwortenSo because it's free it shouldn't be criticize?
-
Honestly, I believe Bungie fixed this game now that the update has been released. I was kind of salty about the Mida and the Warlock nerf, but i would have traded that off for a loot system fix, and they did just that. I feel like I'm actually being rewarded in this game and it's about damn time. And I'm not even a yr 1 person so I can only imagine how bad you all have felt throughout this time period. Thanks for the weapons parts/sparrow kit/armor parts for beating the nightfall Oh I did the raid challenge, thanks for all the shit I already have 20 of. I leveled up more in 2 days than I have over the last month. This was sorely needed for mediocre players like me.

3 AntwortenYou want to know something? Everyone is always happy when it's free. Even if it kinda sucks. "Stop whining! You got content for free!" So? If I got a videogame for free, but it was full of bugs, glitches, and made it almost unplayable, the "free" idea still doesn't seem that awesome. I'm grateful and happy about the April update, as their are many changes and content that are fantastic, such as Infusion, Chroma, and Y1 weapons back. Others? Not so much. PVE players were like the people in a dessert desperately looking for water. 7 months of no new content. And in 7 months, we got a strike, a mission, and PoE. Along with all the new weapons and armor. And a crapload of bugs, glitches (Which will be fixed. Soon) "But it's free!" Please understand that if we just immediately called it perfect because it was free, that would be completely biased. It doesn't mean we can't criticize them. Maybe that's what it will inspire them to make the updates better?

1 AntwortenWow kid, you're so smart, like no one else knew this. Totally a super star dude.

I was inclined to agree with you until i saw that this update is to last us until autumn. Ttk didnt even last that long before everyone left. Its a bold move, cotton. Let's see how this one plays out

1 AntwortenAt the end of the day what do we grind for . Weapons and gear . Just stick all year one gear In the loot table and you'll see truly individual guardians . Remember become legend .

1 AntwortenWell said im tired of people bitching and complaining if you dont like it well GTFO of here and play another game
-
3 AntwortenYeah, it's a free update. But it still sucks. I did everything "new" in under 2hours while soloing the "challenge" first try flawlessly. They put in no effort at all to make this "update" worthwile. The ONLY good thing about this update is the fixed infusion system, that's all. But it's free...so...yaaaay or something like that. Oh, so many brackets...
-
Yeah but still, destiny feels like it's dying off...

3 AntwortenDoesn't matter what you call it. There is not enough content since TTK to last an entire year. We are not seeing anything new until fall of 2016?!? What are all the Devs working on Destiny 2 and we have the interns left working on Destiny? Come'on man! That's a pathetic amount of content released since TTK.
-
1 AntwortenThat's true. Though, they should think about doing stuff such as thinking about fan exotics and such. I can make up quite a few exotics off the top of my head.
