There are artists out there who don't scream drugs, money, and women. Artist Lecrae was a perfect example of this when he went on Sway in the Morning (a radio show) and did a freestyle on the show.
Radio show host also talks about what the origins of rap was supposed to be, and that was to uplift, not bring everyone down. So I recommend to all of you who think all rap is is drugs, money, and women to click the link above and you'll see one of the examples of what a rapper is supposed to be.
Commenter Cyber made me realize something. I shouldn't be trying to impose what I like on other people. If you saw this post before and were insulted or I said anything to you that was offensive, I apologize. I shouldn't judge what you like and impose what I like is better. That's ethnocentrism, which in my eye, is wrong. So once again, I apologize to anyone who was offended by me or by my post. Listen to what you like. Have a good one. 11 AntwortenBearbeitet von Cyber: 3/24/2016 10:59:16 AMMusic is like religion. Do your own thing, share it, nobody cares; just don't impose it upon others. I understand you like your own music. That's fine by me. But this post is the equivalent of saying, "Do you have a moment to talk about our lord and savior <religious figure>."

30 AntwortenIn my opinion, it just doesn't sound good, cool, intelligent, creative, or any of those things. A vast majority of it - rap, in particular - also represents a degenerate culture that continues to devolve and plague our country and especially our youth. There's lack of respect for authority/police, women, everyone actually. There's glamorization of thugs, gangsters, players, cop killers, drugs, greed, egotism, murder, criminal activity in general - you name it. Another thing - whenever you see some inconsiderate moron driving around or parked right in front of the doors of a gas station with their windows down, blaring their music, forcing the whole world to hear their crap, how often is it anything other than rap or hip hop? Seriously, it's no wonder so many people don't like it.

1 AntwortenBearbeitet von Tomnipotent: 3/23/2016 11:01:02 PMBruh.. you asking a forum full of white kids why they don't like rap. What do you think you're gonna get out of this? If they dont fhuck with what you listen to, it's all good. Their opinions shouldn't matter. Half of them listen to that demon worshipping, satanic rock shit anyway, the other half listen to robot noises and call it music so meh.

2 AntwortenThey're uninformed.

It's not my favorite genre and I basically hate all the mainstream artist but for some reason I just love Fort Minor and Kid Cudi. I think every genre has something good in it, except maybe Country.

2 AntwortenReading too many of these comments with a heavy heart. Rap is an interesting genre. There's always been a schism because to so many it just sounds like talking over a rhythm, digitized sounds, and profane subject matter. Rap was never meant to fit into a mold. The subjects of rap nine times out of ten are these rappers lives and that life tends to revolve around struggle. Struggle for food, a roof over your head, providing for you and yours. I used to dislike rap. Like a lot. Then I moved out of my parents place, lost a lot of privilege and gained a lot of responsibility and my perspective grew to encompass a much wider aspect, particularly being able to appreciate The Struggle and those whom could shape it into art. That being said, I can only take so much Trap. Unfortunately it seems to have cemented itself in the Rap genre, rappers like Keef make way too much money off that repetive crap.

1 AntwortenRap nowadays is nothing but a bunch of computer-generated beats, clicks, taps and autotune with an angry dumbass yelling over it. No actual musicianship involved.
-
The topics are often poor and they aren't singing. They merely talk in the presence of background music. I wanna hear some singing. I don't mind most R&B though.
-
4 AntwortenAlmost every genre is about drugs/money/women. I don't like those two simply because they never do it the way I like.

3 AntwortenBearbeitet von acousticsoul22: 3/23/2016 1:52:01 AMI definitely don't think that all rap is about those topics, but I just can't get into it. The beats seem generic. I want more 3/4 or 6/8 rap songs (yes I know that they do exist, but 4/4 is just too overdone. I like old school rap more than this new shit.

1 AntwortenBearbeitet von ANGRY ASIAN 500: 3/23/2016 5:31:41 PMI Don't like the instruments commonly used in it, I don't like the vocals, and I don't like the words, there are exceptions but they're few and far between.

29 AntwortenWhere do I begin......It is a stretch to even call it music, all too often the rapper is tone deaf and when they inevitably try to sing the resultant out of tune screeching makes me want to dip my head in sulphuric acid, this is totally unacceptable for someone who is meant to be a vocalist. Lyrically they are all very similar (to the point of them calling eachother out for using identical lines in a song) and often they will just use a ridiculous lyric just for the sake of a rhyme. The backing tracks for the lyric are often dull, repetitive (seriously, it's not unheard of for the same 20 seconds of track to loop for the whole song, that's just pathetic) and of a standard that you would expect from a drunk 5 year old. All in all, if you take all the things that make music bad and put them together......you end up with a rap song.

Rap showed a lot of promise. But then it got hijacked by NWA and, well, need I say more?

I see why a lot of people can hate rap/hip-hop but that's because they are listening to the crappy stuff. Kid Cudi has deep songs about depression and the struggles of life and loneliness. Yes, he has songs about smoking weed too but every rapper does. That doesn't mean rappers don't have deep songs as well. Music Saved My Life by Futuristic is an amazing song. The title explains what the song is about. If your are against rap or don't like it give that song a try and maybe listen to some Kid Cudi. If you don't like it then that is perfectly fine. The Prayer by Kid Cudi is his best song FYI.
