When Bungie first announced that players would no longer be spawning into 3v3 matches with special ammo, I was actually kind of excited about that. I'm a mediocre sniper at best, so I was happy to hear the game might be tilted slightly in my favor.
But after playing Trials for a couple of weeks, I hate it.
Honestly, it's not so bad in Skirmish or Salvage. People tend to use primary weapons more often in those game modes anyway. But in Trials, your life is so much more valuable, so you will do anything to get an edge to make your opponent die first. There is no respawn to help you regroup and adapt. It's cut throat, and I like that. But you need special weapons (and ammo) to compete.
Right now the problem with Trials is twofold.
(1) Limiting special ammo has turned Trials into a game of momentum. If you get slaughtered on the first round before you can pick up special, there is a good chance you may never have special ammo for the rest of the match. Before you could come back in the second round with a new strategy, now if you're down 0-1, you're worried about how you can possibly challenge their snipers now that they have special ammo and you don't.
(2) There is too much variation in each round now. We have the weird outlier first round with no special, the second round where only one team might have special, with the heavy round soon after. By that point you may STILL not have any special ammo. But the real problem here is that there is too much variation between each round. It makes it very difficult for a losing team to adapt and regroup when each round will be very different from the previous one. If there is no repetition or even playing field with each round, it's simply too chaotic.
Bungie limited special ammo in order to help balance the game. Elimination and Trials are so unbalanced right now it's ridiculous...
[Edit]
I want to add that this whole problem could probably be avoided if all primaries were significantly buffed relative to special weapons. As it stands, primaries have received a net nerf since day 1, and now they are so weak that special weapons are the only good option for competitive play.
Also, I'm not complaining because I'm getting wrecked in Trials. I AM definitely getting wrecked most of the time, but that's not my issue. I'm complaining because Bungie failed to fix the problem they originally set out to fix: the primacy of special weapons in 3v3 matches.

1 AntwortenAssuming that Bungie's purpose of this special ammo update is to keep specials reliance in check, I agree with the intent but I think they did not address all the loopholes that pretty much defeats the purpose. I notice the first round has some interesting moments in the beginning, but with the sidearm/ice breaker/invective exploit, the gameplay shortly goes back to business as usual. Hence, it is more a delay of the status quo gameplay instead of truly changing the way people treat special weapons. And even if the ammo generating exploit is fixed, the game can become more skewed where the winning team of one round grabs special and begins the next round with a huge advantage. The solution? Some poster's suggest that each player just starts with a set number of special ammo for the entire match. It's not perfect since it negates the viability of side arms/invective/ice breaker in these game modes, but this probably comes closest to the spirit what the special ammo update is trying to achieve. Side note: I am a firm believer that no matter what rule is implemented, a good team will always wreck the opponent. I am speaking from the POV of an average player (below average in ToO). But it's interesting how specials affects the outcome because these past two weeks my team almost always wins the first round.

There's only one way to fix this... Gunskill

3 AntwortenWell bungie is literally terrible at balancing their game. If I could make the decisions I could provide destiny with very small changes but ultimately balance the competitive scene out so easily. I find it troubling that most of these common sense fixes aren't being thought of. Give me 8 hot fix options and see destiny come to its full glory

1 AntwortenBearbeitet von SpatialMarker: 2/22/2016 4:58:41 AMI got put in the middle of a skirmish match with no special and the other team just seconds before got both heavy ammos.I could barely move without dying the rest of the match.

Bearbeitet von Dr Livingston 9: 2/22/2016 4:47:36 AMThe crucible guy in charge of these changes like to make the games more unbalanced and uneven. if your losing to a team at least having special can give you a chance to come back. the only fair way to fix this is to put special back the way it was . i remember listing to a crucible guy that works for bungie described rubber banding. Rubber banding is if your losing or not doing as good you get an advantage. im not sure i agree with this either. but for one instance the Srl racing was a example of rubber banding . if you where in first the boost gates would get smaller . if you where in last the boost gates would get larger. what is happening with special ammo is the opposite of rubber banding its giving the team that gets the box special for a good portion of the match and if you miss this then you might go with out special for a long time or never get it again. heavy ammo is similar. sometimes the team that is winning gets heavy and heavy drops 3 times a game in a match . so one team is winning and then they get heavy and can keep it to the next drop because heavy machine guns have so much ammo. this is the opposite of rubber banding. i think 3 times a match for heavy is way too excessive. i admit when i get heavy 3 times that its not fair im not a hypocrite. I understand what your saying about special. the easiest solution is not to limit special at all. some will say but then people wont use there primary. what you are describing is unbalanced and we are not the only ones that noticed this or think this is unfair.

12 AntwortenIf you really want to make snipers less of a factor in trials, Lose the radar.

It screws the people that don't do it.

Tread lightly man, some people might start insulting you on the basis of your KDs

I agree with alot of what you said. Especially the part of being without special for Rounds on end in Trials.

2 Antwortenhttps://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/182264454/0/0
For me, I don't see shotguns, snipers, or any special as over powered, I see them as over used. A long while back we faced an issue, people were using their specials far more than their primaries. With a following patch they fixed it to ensure that primaries would be used more... or did they?
Bungie Weekly Update - 04/09/2015 https://www.bungie.net/7_Bungie-Weekly-Update---04092015/en/News/News?aid=12753 This update mentioned some things about special ammo and their goals for it.
Kevin: At the highest level, we had a few goals in mind: Make Special ammo a more precious resource in Crucible Further solidify Heavy ammo's role in the Crucible Further improve the balance of encounters by limiting high-damage weapons
or
Or, as Mr. Fruit put it earlier this week: Shotgun violence runs rampant in the Crucible. Can you ease his mind with some details? Kevin: The recent update to sandbox balance was the first step. Creating a new system to manage ammo drops will enable us to adjust the Crucible experience without altering other activities in your Director. We believe that making ammo more scarce and important will provide players with more choices and more memorable encounters in Crucible.
and then there is:
Kevin: Special Ammo will spawn less frequently, it will take longer to pick up, there will be less crates located on the map, and the bricks you find will provide you with less ammo. I’ll save the stats and gory details for the Patch Notes. [Editor’s Note: Coming very soon to a blog article near you!] We wanted players to really think about how and when they should use their ammo. The hope is that you’ll ask yourself questions like: "Is this snipe worth it right now?" "Should I really shotgun rush these players?" "Should I conserve ammo until the next crate?”

Yet with the idea of making special ammo more precious we still see people using only the special weapons still.
"Is this snipe worth it right now?"
You don't ask yourself this because you're running around with at least 8 shots and the next ammo drop will be in 7 seconds to give you 4-5 more shots.
"Should I really shotgun rush these players?"
Well, seeing as I can carry at least 16 shots with my shotgun, this is never a question. People can claim that others are just scrubs by shotgun rushing, or pussies by camping with a sniper. But what if that shotgunner had only 2 shot available to him? He would have had to wait for the right time to use it to get 2 kills. Or the sniper had only 1 shot left? He would have needed the right angle and right opportunity to make that shot worth it. Using a special weapon for a special situation. Yet we are given so much special ammo it is not that precious, even skilled people can stack up on ammo to a large capacity of shots. By using a certain weapon so much an impression is made, then claimed to be over powered when it is not, it is over used. This won't stop the shotgun nerf though, that boat has already sailed. But even with them being nerfed they will still be used to large extents because of the availability given to them through special ammo pickups. If a nerf would come to special ammo, I would advise not reducing the amount of ammo special weapons can carry, but how much they can pick up in crucible. Instead of giving 6 shotgun shots, or 5 sniper shots, give 2. It will not effect the performance of the weapon, but it will effect the availability and use of it. PvE players would be happy too with a nerf that doesn't effect them. That is my input, call me what you want, scrub, baby, idiot, I don't care. This has been the one and only main issue I see in crucible, and you can disagree with me if you want. But if you agree, please bump and like so we can focus on the real issue.
Perhaps a solution would be allocation of a "special round"? Perhaps rounds 2/4 should have special ammo, available in 2 to 4 crates across the map. They might have to be a little closer to each team's spawn, but perhaps that might be interesting (the ammo disappearing after the round, obviously).

Imagine that all the people screaming nerf realize how stupid this is.... people need to think beyond the 2in in front of thei face. It should be limited on 6v6 NOT 3v3 game modes. 3v3 is more competitive and can be treated as such with or without special ammo spawn.
-
I have no idea how you guys didn't see this from the second they announced it. Just you wait until the fix the icebreaker side arm exploit. I rush the special ammo crate first round every time. You want insurance run a side arm your first round and switch when you die otherwise pray you win
-
3 AntwortenPlayers need to learn to avoid sniper lanes. Don't punish people because there good at sniping.
-
16 AntwortenBungie should remove special ammo crates and let the player spawn into a match with an amount of special ammo. If it's used, it's gone.
-
2 AntwortenDidn't read the while thing but what I did read was pretty true.
-
2 AntwortenAll they had to do was make it (sp ammo) spawn less frequently.
-
3 AntwortenI applaud your admittance that you were wrong. That being said, I laugh stupidly at all the stupid assholes that cried for this and GOT EXACTLY WHAT THEY WANTED. My last word is not dependent on special ammo. #suckit
-
2 AntwortenThey shouldn't have implemented it with the invective/icebreaker and side arm loopholes.
-
Special disappearing every round and the inability to use icebreaker sidearms to get ammo for other guns would be huge improvements.
-
2 AntwortenWhy do so many people want to get rid of radar?

6 AntwortenI'm just an average joe. No one special and certainly not someone who can perform well in the crucible, but if there one thing that's keeps me going. Its the power in myself to push me beyond my limits and achieve victory through determination.
-
1 Antwortenit really is, absolutely stupid. during crimson doubles my team would camp on special to get some, and in trials, my team waits 15 seconds then bum rushes the other team with a flash-bang, therefore we get special and they do not. it really just ruins it. now if they gave you 10 shots to start with and you couldn't pick up more, it would be balanced. you have a limited amount, but you never end up at a disadvantage because it is even, if you burn it all in one round well then.... but it would allow for more better play
-
I like the limit, but agree with most of the post. My advice, get real comfortable with no land beyond and a good sidearm ;) Kjhovey and Patrick Casey (c or k?) are both very good with it and I'm loving it so far
-
Yup... Nerf.

2 AntwortenIt was good idea I'll give bungie that but the games I've seen my friend play and the ones I've played on his account are filled with people rushing you not even trying to kill you just move you so they can get the special ammo don't get me wrong that's a good strat to get the upper hand but really though they removed special ammo so we can stop depending on them but each game the other team always stayed by the special or made sure they get it before the round was over.
