When Bungie first announced that players would no longer be spawning into 3v3 matches with special ammo, I was actually kind of excited about that. I'm a mediocre sniper at best, so I was happy to hear the game might be tilted slightly in my favor.
But after playing Trials for a couple of weeks, I hate it.
Honestly, it's not so bad in Skirmish or Salvage. People tend to use primary weapons more often in those game modes anyway. But in Trials, your life is so much more valuable, so you will do anything to get an edge to make your opponent die first. There is no respawn to help you regroup and adapt. It's cut throat, and I like that. But you need special weapons (and ammo) to compete.
Right now the problem with Trials is twofold.
(1) Limiting special ammo has turned Trials into a game of momentum. If you get slaughtered on the first round before you can pick up special, there is a good chance you may never have special ammo for the rest of the match. Before you could come back in the second round with a new strategy, now if you're down 0-1, you're worried about how you can possibly challenge their snipers now that they have special ammo and you don't.
(2) There is too much variation in each round now. We have the weird outlier first round with no special, the second round where only one team might have special, with the heavy round soon after. By that point you may STILL not have any special ammo. But the real problem here is that there is too much variation between each round. It makes it very difficult for a losing team to adapt and regroup when each round will be very different from the previous one. If there is no repetition or even playing field with each round, it's simply too chaotic.
Bungie limited special ammo in order to help balance the game. Elimination and Trials are so unbalanced right now it's ridiculous...
[Edit]
I want to add that this whole problem could probably be avoided if all primaries were significantly buffed relative to special weapons. As it stands, primaries have received a net nerf since day 1, and now they are so weak that special weapons are the only good option for competitive play.
Also, I'm not complaining because I'm getting wrecked in Trials. I AM definitely getting wrecked most of the time, but that's not my issue. I'm complaining because Bungie failed to fix the problem they originally set out to fix: the primacy of special weapons in 3v3 matches.

I actually really like Trials now. Sure, there are exploits, but Ice Breaker and Invective aren't exactly the best weapons to use, especially in Trials. You have to aim with sidearms, so I haven't had a huge problem with the first round or so. I'm pretty mediocre at Trials, and the first week I tried with the patch my team went 8-0. We lost because we went up against the same team twice, and they were really good.

They have no idea what they're doing

2 AntwortenIf its an issue, do the glitch. Or you could try to be badass with a NLB. I don't care what anyone says, its more satisfying to shoot people with that gun than other guns.

If special means that much to you The No Land/Sidearm is a legit way to bypasses the special nerf. Though the downside to this is you actually need skill to run this load out.

Learn how to use a primary, scrub
-
I used to use Icebreaker in crucible, and then the special ammo Nerf came.... And all y'all scrubs use him now don't you touch him!
it's mine precious
It's been much better for me. The game is less about sniping skill now and more about positioning and teamwork. Sidearms start with ammo so a Mida/sidearm combo will do you well first round at any range and you can deal with rushers and those who hang back. Then I switch to sniper/doctrine. I barely use sniper I just wait for my team to start engaging and come round the side to distract or clean up the enemies. I am not a good sniper particularly and I've only been flawless once before this weekend when I took two characters to the lighthouse. Tl;dr, I love the changes, obviously I hate the exploits, I know I'm sorta doing one but I would be happy for special ammo to be lost upon changing weapon.

I agree with first. However, the second iasue you listed is just silly. You can't expect to go everything like you imagine in your head.

If I see someone using Ice Breaker in trials?
Prepare for my gumballs to be dragged across your face.

You're a noob if you use Ice Breaker for ammo.

Plain and simple.

Anyone who argues with me will be ignored.

Still went flawless with noobs doing that s*** earlier tonight.

So much rekt
1 Antwortenthe idea is right...the work around just needs fixed....

1 AntwortenLOL ICEBREAKER ! next post plz... Above word makes entire post of this dude WORHTLESS ! As long as icebreaker makes amo and when your dead you swap that amo to new gun... this post is for noobs without icebreaker.

4 AntwortenNot to mention the people that pull that bs with side arms and ice breaker. Start banning people that pull that crap. It's cheating.

1 AntwortenYou don't need special ammo to compete.... You need skills to compete.

nahhh its a good thing

It was a really good idea in theory but it's awful in terms of execution. All I see are people switching to invective or ice breaker until they have full special ammo then switching to their preferred legendary. There are still barely any gunfights now too.

It was a good idea but just extremely poorly executed, there are so many loopholes to the 3v3 special ammo nerf that it has made the game even more unbalanced. Only Bungie could patch in an idea from the community that was so good on paper and make the game even more unbalanced than it was before. Since there are 3-4 special crates per map in trials and they open up every 30 seconds, there is technically plenty of special to go around if you play it right. There is unfortunately that risk of getting wiped in the first round and then the other team takes the special, the following rounds will be considerably more difficult. They could have just disabled the use of special weapons for the first X amount of minutes to focus more on primary fights, which I believe was the goal with the special ammo changes. One big problem with Destiny PVP is there are too many ways of one shotting a guardian, which negates the use of primaries, since all the specials have been nerfed except for snipers, that is why they are so effective at the moment, they are actually in a good spot, its just where everything else is trash it makes them seem overpowered. Overused weapons do not equal overpowered weapons. Unfortunately no amount of tuning or weapon balancing will ever change the fact that people will always complain, difference of opinion between which is their favourite weapons or not will always give Bungie a headache with weapon balancing. It would be better if all weapons were more useful but an error I think Bungie continue to make with the rebalancing is the gap between the meta and the rest is so big, you only ever see 5-6 guns in the crucible.

1 AntwortenBearbeitet von cuzzybubba1: 2/22/2016 4:12:36 AMPeople literally cannot operate without special it's laughable. The same person that is hitting snipes half the time can't hit the broad side of a barn with primary.. Mtashed said it great that without special and a sniper he is barely an average player. If this game had a primary only game I'd be all over it, that would be epic.

Lol, I knew this would happen as soon as they announced it.

7 AntwortenBearbeitet von AmenOne: 2/21/2016 9:00:38 PMI've said it before and I'll say it again...trials shouldn't have ammo. We should just all just start off with sticks to beat each other with

You know what is bullshit Those people who pull out ice breaker and get special by the time the match is over Or The fact that one team can run and pick up every special crate in the map and then -blam!- us over with snipers and shotguns
-
I have to say as a new Trials player I totally agree that it should only allow primary weapons (and no NLB!). It would be interesting to see the stats on how much percentage kills are used by which weapon type. I'll wager massively that secondaries will be near the 85-90%. Icebreakers and invectives everywhere. Then 1Kys once the ammo comes in. Yawn.

1 AntwortenGet rid of both heavy and special for trials, more gun skill needed then
-
3 AntwortenAgree and the fact it can easily be exploited is dumb, also think the heavy round needs to go

I like it the way it is in trials

1 AntwortenAssuming that Bungie's purpose of this special ammo update is to keep specials reliance in check, I agree with the intent but I think they did not address all the loopholes that pretty much defeats the purpose. I notice the first round has some interesting moments in the beginning, but with the sidearm/ice breaker/invective exploit, the gameplay shortly goes back to business as usual. Hence, it is more a delay of the status quo gameplay instead of truly changing the way people treat special weapons. And even if the ammo generating exploit is fixed, the game can become more skewed where the winning team of one round grabs special and begins the next round with a huge advantage. The solution? Some poster's suggest that each player just starts with a set number of special ammo for the entire match. It's not perfect since it negates the viability of side arms/invective/ice breaker in these game modes, but this probably comes closest to the spirit what the special ammo update is trying to achieve. Side note: I am a firm believer that no matter what rule is implemented, a good team will always wreck the opponent. I am speaking from the POV of an average player (below average in ToO). But it's interesting how specials affects the outcome because these past two weeks my team almost always wins the first round.
