The term sweaty players came from some kid who clearly couldn't compete with higher skilled players. So to make himself feel better he started using a term to refer to people who were better than him. Rather than striving to get better he'd rather those players be envied and looked at negatively.
Why has the younger generation become such whiny emotional weak people. There once was a time everyone fed off their natural competitive nature and you earned everything. Nothing was handed to you. You kids are thinking you're entitled to things you did not earn because of how you were raised. I'm sorry to say but your entitled to nothing without earning it.
"Sweaty" players strive for success and put time in to be as good as they are at the game. "Sweaty" players still have fun playing just as some of you. I have fun winning just like every competitive player does. I also can enjoy a came I lose bc it's against a good team and is very heated and exciting. Don't hate on the people in the community that care about winning and try when they play. Just because you can't compete with us doesn't mean you try to bring us down. How about you spend your time practicing and get better so that you can compete with us. If you don't want to do that then why waste time complaining about nerfing and how things are unfair? You obviously care about the game.
There are several comments below proving my point that people do use sweaty in a negative manner. Apparently if you are a "sweaty" you throw temper tantrums and break everything if you lose. I wouldn't have an issue with the term if it was actually intended to be a compliment. It is okay for people to want to be above average and excel at everything they do including a video game. That doesn't make them any less of a person. So saying you'd rather focus on your grades and "sweaty" players don't is a very invalid argument. I carry just under a 4.0 gpa in college with one semester left. I work full time as a manager while still going to school full time. I don't no life the game and spend hours upon hours grinding away. Being a "sweaty" player doesn't mean you have no life and every other absurd status that goes along with it.
About the work ethic.....Correct me if I'm wrong, but work ethic entails how hard and how much effort you put into something regardless if it is your job, a sport, a relationship, or working out..... Everyone of those your intent is to succeed and perform great. So yes you can have work ethic in video game and there is nothing wrong with wanting to win and be better than the week before.
About the younger generation... you see it everywhere about the concerns and issues that are coming from high schools. The reason I bring up the younger generation is because they make up quite a large portion of the community.
Updated to reword since some people are missing the point

Some of play Destiny for fun, not as a career.

1 AntwortenNo-Lifers, Nerds, Tryhards, and now "sweaty players"... it's just the evolution of terminology used to undermine a player that's better at something than you are. Unfortunately, the latest terminology is just exceptionally stupid even when compared to the previous terms before it. And, like the terms before it, they've been adopted by the community as non-insulting and a badge of honor (at least, when said players think it's okay to be serious, usually throwing the terms out insultingly when they're up against someone taking "fun modes" more serious). These players, these "sweaties", aren't winning because they have a better "work ethic" than other people. That's just idiotic to even suggest. No, these players are just more passionate about this particular hobby than others. The only people who could apply real work ethic to their gaming are the professional players, since they're actually working and have the time in their day to dedicate to playing a game for the majority of it. Those who go to a regular job, come home, and still beat your ass at the game are just passionate players who care more about their performance in a game than you do.

7 AntwortenSweats are stupid, waving off heavy ammo, refusing to use certain guns, it's all so pointless. It's in the game for a reason, use it. Most "sweaty players" I see always use last word and 1000 yard stare and believe that they are truly skilled players, but those guns do most of the work for you. I don't even aim any more when I use my 1000 yard, I just swipe and shoot and get a kill, that simple.

to me Sweaty is a mindset. Here is the difference: I log on and join a crucible match. I am going all out. Throwing my grenade strategically, crab walking, sniping or shotgunning, camping, giving it my all. Saying .."Come on, or wtf every mistake or stupid thing that happens" #Sweaty vs Same match with same team Just using a weapon I want to try out. I die more times than I kill, but don't give a f#ck. I am just having fun running around doing whatever. #Notsweaty people who cry every match is sweaty...well..that's because YOU made it sweaty....It's a mindset.

I have sweaty balls..... feel free to play with them..... you might win

Been sweaty has good and bad impact. If you seriously about destiny and u like to go againts good players using the most op weapons and in the run gain dome xperience then defenitely sweaty is good for you. If you are a average player and dont suck but u still not that good and like to use not only the meta, well then sweaties are not for you. Do it like me, go to uoutube watch some sweaty keep practicing snd get good watching the sweaty guys you may learn one thing or two. If you are below average and use the most op weapon and still suckand u just keep playing and practicing but u dont get any better then you going to hate on the sweaty players. The thing i see more hate about is someone using the meta, well thats just the best weapon who give advsntage to anyone invluding you. If u dont want to use it thats fine but understand that is not the player fault is the game fault for giving that advantage. I was running sniper on the shotgun meta and i got my ass kick but man i love sniping since day one so thats my fault.

I thought sweaties were competitive people that did not like to lose so they try to win in the competitive multiplayer game modes.
-
so youre mad because?? you are not a sweatie dude. i have casual friends who rock the same stats as you.

When someone not sweaty thinks he understand what the words sweaty means. Babe, stick to burning those pounds in the gym.

1 AntwortenSweaty players were raised with Cheetos and video games. Don't try to make this like you are accomplished. Regular people who get good at video games hide that fact from RL people in their lives. It's ok to be a dork. Just do not advertise in real life.

3 AntwortenNo "competitive gamer" would play destiny. Get over yourself you arrogant asshat.

4 AntwortenLol I'm not practicing at a video game. Video games hold no real life weight. Video games were meant to be played for FUN. Work 10-12 hours a day then tell me how much you care about skills in a video game.

I thought it was from FIFA when people scored "sweaty" goals.

6 AntwortenBearbeitet von DeadlyMenace: 2/9/2016 4:05:43 PM"Sweaty" or "try hards", I use either. They are why I don't play PvP(aside from my laggy internet) I don't enjoy playing against someone who knows the map like the back of their hand because it's all they do. Can kill you before you've reacted to seeing them. Fair dues, they're good and they enjoy it, I don't. I prefer to help someone achieve something they're struggling with in pve rather than consistently showing them they're not as good as me.
