Is spanking child abuse?
Are you one of those dumb people that thinks spanking your child is abusive?
Edit: I see some of the people here dont know how to properly punish their child.
I am 18 years old and I have never done drugs, smoked, or drank. I learned about consequences because my parents always spanked me for doing something wrong. If they hadnt, I might have grown up thinking that I dont have to worry about consequences
I dont resent my parents at all. They are some of the best people I know.
I do, however, know a kid that does drugs, disrespects teachers, and thinks he is "all that". He was never spanked.

It's discipline not child abuse there is a difference

So, hitting someone is the best way to discipline them. Correct? If your child respects you enough you won't ever have to resort to violence. It appears you didn't respect your parents at all and they had to hit you for it. I was never spanked and I don't do drugs, I don't commit crimes, nor do I drink alcohol (by choice, because I'm not someone who thinks you should never drink alcohol.) So you're better than me because your parents took their anger out on you when you didn't do what you we're told and called it "discipline". Interesting. Well, since I was never spanked I guess it's time for me to go rob a bank and go kill some people.

Yes. If you use the front of your hand to hit then it is abuse. Always use the backhand for discipline.

I was never spanked as a child. I'm 20, never done drugs or any of that crap, currently on and internship for college. Just saying, I'm like you, except I wasn't spanked. I'm perfectly okay with spanking, I think it would prevent lot of the kids that are druggies from becoming druggies and teach all the -blam!- ups some respect and discipline. That being said, I think for every kid who needs it, there's a kid who doesn't need it and will turn out just fine without it.

My mom's way of "spanking" was a couple of backhands to the face and things being thrown at me. My dad whooped my ass with a belt. They weren't strict though, I was just an obnoxiously spoiled teenager.

Face, stomach, and crotch are off limits. Everything else is game. (A slap on the back of the head is allowed as long as it's not too harsh. Used mainly when a child is being disrespectful and needs that little reminder of how to act.)

It stops the kid from continuing the thing you do not want them to do, but then they could think that that is a legitimate method to stop their own kid from doing something bad. It is still abuse. When I was growing up, it was something that could happen. I still see it as a way to sort out a kid. Back then. Now that everybody is all over protective of their children, I would never think twice of hitting my own child. And if you were to hit your kid, then that kid could be without a parent for some time. As some person would probably call the cops or something. We could argue that any punishment is child abuse, as they yield the same results.

It creates a mental fix in your head when you do something wrong and you get disciplined for it. Get disciplined enough times and you eventually learn to stop doing it. I know lots of people who do this with pets and what shit. What did you gain from this information? Kids are pets.

As a kid, I probably got spanked two times in total. I respected my parents after that. It's a good way to show your discipline from the getgo, but it's also easy to go overboard. After a few times they will probably learn and verbal discipline becomes an alternative.
