House of Wolves had more content than any of the expansions including taken king.
You felt rewarded when you got a weapon because you knew you could get the roll you wanted.
The raid gear was worth grinding the raids for.
All content from vanilla to dark below was also a viable option.
The strike rotations included every strike and had some great guns in them.
Exotics didn't come pouring in through a little coin and the bounties were difficult enough to make you feel that you earned them.
Although the weapon meta was bad it wasn't nearly as bad as this mess we have now.
Localized matchmaking meant you almost never had red bars on your team.
Xur sold 5 heavy packs, instead of 3.
No time gated quests that just artificially increased the life of the game by weeks. (Except elder cipher and some tdb quests)
Overall you felt more rewarded. You knew once you got an etheric light the items light would be max and you didn't have to rely on rng. You had 3 sets of raid armor all max level. Your weapons were tailored to you because you didn't have to rely on rng for a good roll (because you were able to reroll it to get what you wanted) after you already waited through rng to get the thing.
I miss house of wolves and the drive to play because "they surely won't mess up all this progress with taken king! They're going in the right direction"
.... thanks for proving us all wrong again Actibungie
Edit: Don't get me started on Nightfalls.... I forgot they were even a thing because of how badly they're implemented now. Back then you got your weekly exp buff and good rewards... it was either Strange coins, a legendary engram/weapon or an exotic. Now you get a ghost shell.
Edit 2: To everyone who thinks I'm talking solely about poe or things added solely in HoW please consider that when I typed this I meant the state of destiny in its whole was at its peak during the time of HoW. I know it didn't have a raid and that PoE rewards were a joke. I was there too. Overall the systems in place and the rewards for every other activity were on point and just a lot better implemented.

2 AntwortenNightfalls back then? I remember shards. Shards. And more shards. BTW, got a 303 ghost for my 319 hunter today!

3 AntwortenHOW Had no raid. POE was doodoo.

I think that the Taken King introduced some nice improvements, myself. * A massive number of new missions. Yes, battlefields were recycled, but the challenges were different. * A nasty new enemy in the Taken, with all sorts of crazy new abilities added. Most annoying are those amoeba-Psions, but the ones I've had the most trouble with are those Phalanxes. Especially on cliffs. * Some cool new exotics, though of course I miss Gjallie. * Far more things to accomplish in terms of quests. * Some great new Crucible modes. * A Ghost who actually talked again. Yes, I think Peter Dinklage's nuanced performance has been somewhat vindicated. Hower, since Nolan North gives us new lines when new things come up, I think we're better off with him. The worst thing it did, though, was take away the Prison of Elders as a viable and profitable game mode. Also, while the new Queen's Wrath bounties are a nice source of experience, leveling up in the faction only provides obsolete gear.

Bearbeitet von Shelby: 1/6/2016 1:43:59 AMIt might not have been the best DLC by way of actual content as stated by commenters below, but it was certainly the most fun and exciting. I found myself surrounded by friends being able to play a lot of different activities during the week and having fun in the process. The community was vibrant. It was a time where the games theme of hope among insurmountable odds showed as hope grew for the game because it felt like it was moving in the right direction. Then TTK dropped. It was fun, but it got boring faster than HoW or even Croat ever did. The change to the drop system made the game grindier. It's not a fun experience to play only to reach a level that looks and feels unattainable for the casual player. I, for one, had a much better experience when you could max out in like 8 hours of play time and then could focus on enjoying every single thing this game has to offer. Thanks OP for making me reminisce and opening an old wound that I had closed with never looking back. Edit: To add some things that makes TTK not as much fun other than constant flipping grinding; -1 less raid and 1 less PoE and Nightfall being useless and not fun at all were not replaced by other fun endgame activities -Friends are leaving due to the boring new nature of the game; hell, I might too -The community has just imploded into a black hole of toil and despair. From the players begging for nerfs, to the titans and warlocks screaming at hunters for wanting nerfs, for people calling to nerf weapons that are balanced(see, MIDA Multi-Tool), vehemently and harshly attacking others for having different opinions on them for burning topics(1k, Theory, TLW, Hammers, Stormcallers, Hunters being or not being whiny -blam!-s), and just being all purpose jerks, the Destiny forums are filled with hate and stupidity that is just so hard to take. I know this is the internet and stuff like this happens, but it was never this bad.

1 AntwortenBearbeitet von Swiftlock: 1/5/2016 10:18:12 PMSadly, I felt that Vanilla/TDB was the high point. Finding raid gear and exotics actually felt rewarding and exciting. Isn't that what a loot-based shooter SHOULD do? RNG was still atrociously bad and there were still balancing issues, but at least things weren't getting nerfed left and right to the point where it felt like a huge deal if you found Vision, Found Verdict, Fatebringer, Gjallarhorn, Ice Breaker, or... most legendaries with decent rolls. Also, when you found raid gear, you didn't have to worry about finding the highest defense stat or hoarding junk for infusion. Armor was at its best right out of the box. House of Wolves was when Bungie realized that they screwed up in making the TDB/Vanilla weapons so decent, and started rewarding items of lesser quality from PoE. Things went downhill from there.

>Expected b8 post >OP is serious >Left disappointed

The only good thing during House of Wolves was old gear being made relevant again.

4 AntwortenLegit thought this title was a troll. Y2 is such an improvement and HoW did not even have a proper raid.
-
I think HoW was the worst destiny put out....that was the game I quit after and just got back on recently.
-
Year 1 in general was better
-
And even that was bad.

Bearbeitet von mfhokie: 1/5/2016 10:17:06 PMHonestly, I didn't like HoW. It was all cool....at first. Reforging, etheric light, non-raid end game content in POE and TOO. Then it all got old really really quick. Reforging gave everybody God rolls on every weapon. Boring. Etheric light made new gear irrelevant. VoC and Fatebringer still ruled PvE, 8-9 months after everybody got them. Boring. TOO was unbeatable unless you were super good or had a friend that was super good. Thorn ruled the Crucible and I had Thorn, so it was OK. But it as all Thorn, all the time. My fire teams always had six Thorns. We would try and change it up sometimes to keep from getting bored and get slaughtered. So we all switched back to Thorn. Boring. IMO, the peak was about the one to two week period after Dark Below was released when VoG was still awesome, everybody didn't exactly know how to cheese CE. SUROS and other Auto Rifles could still be effective. Hand Cannons were great. Scout Rifles were solid. We thought we had gotten a much better storyline with TDB. Once Christmas rolled around and we were all wiping at the bridge then using radiance and IceBreaker to snipe the Ogres, disconnecting our XBoxes at Crota and getting jackshite for beating the one tough part of the raid (Deathsinger), Destiny peaked. Oh yeah, you also got cool stuff for Nightfalls and you could actually rank up your Vanguard and unlock gear perks at a decent rate. IMO...

agree with some points, not all. a lot of the content was the same levels just in reverse I do agree with the ability to re-roll weapons with the motes and they should bring it back, even if they upped the cost of motes to do it. you still have to grind to get the motes but it would at least give you the chance of what you want. don't get me started on nightfall
-
The only thing that was better about HoW was that there was more relevant, worthwhile content.
-
You are so incredibly wrong
-
HoW itself actually was not that great to A LOT of us. Progression system was by far the best we have seen since it actually made you feel the grind you had done and were doing was for something and would be for something, the weapons were crap from it and the weapons for the most part especially the sniper is crap from the raid now compared to others. Now you just grind for enough level to do damage then say screw the rest cause its going to be worthless and have to be dismantled again not much longer anyway which makes me sad for the future of Destiny.
-
TTK has more content that HoW. HoW just had the other year 1 stuff to go along with it. PoE was trash too btw

2 AntwortenDid localized MM get scrapped?

Or a horn, don't forget the horn.

Bearbeitet von SuggestedPigeon: 1/5/2016 11:07:03 PMThe crucible was horrible during HoW because they refused to touch that meta for seven goddamn months. Not defending that in the least, it was awful. HoW progression system was great. All content being relevant, provided that you played enough of the current endgame? Perfect. The horizontal progression that came with this was amazing because instead of freaking out about light it let you build your gear setup. It was disappointing that you couldn't get Vanilla and TDB guns without grinding hard in a low level strike playlist. Rerolling was fine. "It made drops less exciting" is the first thing the youtubers/streamers whined. Bullshit. Rerolling didnt make drops less exciting, the lack of content made drops less exciting. If the entire weapon pool were actually available for drops we would be excited for getting one of hundreds of legendary weapons, not the same 24 or so that you just get on repeat over and over every expansion and then never see again. Not to mention in TTK the drop rate of weapons has not increased to the point where it was worth the removal of rerolling. Have you seen a red spectre drop? I've seen two drop (exclusively to the dead last on my team go figure) and they had absolutely terrible rolls (suck it useless teammate). Personally I've never seen an Eyesluna drop at all. After several months of crucible it hasn't dropped at once. So where are all these drops that are supposed to make up for the fact that we can no longer have any agency in our progression? The problem with rerolling was that a bunch of perks were next to worthless while others were obviously better. Outlaw or Icarus? Obviously I'm going with outlaw. If Icarus actually did something significant I could see some nice builds with it. TTK then turns around and buffs a couple of perks but then adds a slew of more garbage perks that do things too specific to be any good at all. So removing rerolling didn't fix this at all. Also: Trials was better in year one simply because it was pure connection based. Wins based simply means "you start facing lag teams 5+ wins in."

I agree with the majority of what you say. I enjoyed this game much more during HoW. 2 raids and Poe also nightfall was much better then also. I liked the risk of being returned to orbit if you all died. The new light level is horrible, I have to do the same single raid over and over again just to receive the exact same piece of gear but hopefully at a higher light level which is pretty depressing. In my opinion 3 of coins has ruined the fun of this game as well, with very little effort I have almost all exotics. And to me the random exotic drops were the things I most looked forward to. That great feeling when opening the exotic chest and seeing an exotic. Now it's pretty meh when a ultra drops one. If they are going to make the old raids redundant and the gear they need to compensate with more content than they did. I would enjoy both raids and Poe back with taken variations and light levels, the gear back with no burns but burns available via consumables that can be infused. Certain op guns to have altered perks so they don't stand out so much. Light levels of gear that drops to not be able to drop below your equipped gear. 3 of coins to be removed or used to increase the chances of legendary engrams and strike specific gear to drop. What do you guys think. Also I know this is not how these types of games usually work but I can't see a downside to this. Either this or new dlc with a considerable increase of content
-
You could get max level in 2 hours of gameplay. I did anyway.
-
Agree how minimised grinding and was way more rewarding. Yes poe wasn't the best but it was still fun. Eth light system was great. Re rolling was silly and was a form of gambling basically. Ttk strikes and missions n story by far the best but new light system and end game is grindier than ever!
-
Meh could have used a Raid but it was good the meta sure as hell wasn't.
-
No. Not even remotely close. HoW was filler between the dark below and ttk,
