Iron Banner Legendary Rewards, 1 in 5 Games

So the IB legendary drop formula seems to generally be 1 item every 5 completed games, win or lose. Switching characters, a little RNG or a purple engram reward might skew the number a bit, but it’s been fairly consistent. Lower rewards (hats – tons and tons of hats, class items, ghosts) tend to drop more frequently than weapons. Once you hit Rank 5 on all your toons, and curse Bungie for never getting a primary weapon above 310 in your reward packages, it’s somewhat nice to know that if you grind and grind and grind, on your 5th game, you’ll almost always get a purple. We’ll ignore that when you finally do get the reward, it’s typically another hat, a lower light level ghost then what you have or the rare time when there’s a brief moment of hope on seeing a weapon, then looking at rolls worse than the ones you can buy. What’s really disappointing and boring are those 4 games in between. There’s some built in relief to help with this – daily bounties and 3 of coins and the first time you get the IB exclusive ship. However, bounties are quickly completed before you hit your first purple and, by this time, most year 1 players are just using coins for infuse bait and already have all the drop exotics. The result of this is a lot of players just hitting the first control point and dancing in corner until the game is over. Nothing can drop for them, they’re just moving the controller enough to not log out and fill up their punch card until they hit their 5th game . Some tier of rewards should be added to provide a chance of something interesting dropping during these dead 4 mid-games. Yes, performance will need to be part of the reward system or it’s just more Carlton dancing in the corner. However, we’ve seen these types of rewards before in the game. There were PVP ships in year 1 to collect. There are also existing rewards currently in year 2 that could be included in the IB post-game rewards like the crucible weapons or the PVP Shax Nightstrike shaders and ships. Or just rework the light levels on the blue drops to occasionally drop at just 1 light level above the highest light level item you have for a given slot. Iron Banner brings out a lot of the community to participate in PVP that usually don’t play and the game is desperate for content and rewards that allow non-hard mode raiders to slowly, but consistently, work towards 220 light levels. Next Iron Banner, please give us something to look forward to during the dead 4 mid-games.
