The Second Amendment is an important part of the rights of the American people. Most notably, it gives us the right to fight against a tyrannical government.
Well, if the government is fighting us, we're up against tanks, attack helicopters, and drones equipped with hellfire missiles. Our shotguns and rifles won't do much against that.
Another point people keep raising is that the US Military *is* the American people, and would not go into battle against its own people. If that's the case, why do we need weapons to ensure we can fight against the government?

3 AntwortenThe German Nationalist Party (Not-Zees) were Germans before WW2 as were the Jews that they rounded up and slaughtered by the millions. All it takes is a charismatic leader to change how people feel. Look at Trump and his supporters. Just willing to willy nilly flout the Constitution and everything it stands for just so they can feel a little more secure.

3 AntwortenThe military is also ordered to not follow any orders that are considered wrong. This includes orders from the POTUS. Also, the military would not fight the people. They are there to protect us. I would know. I was military, and most of us would protect the people. Plus, most military doesn't like Obama, and would love to see him overthrown. The military has rules, and regulations.

Just because they have tanks and aircraft doesn't mean guns aren't preventative in terms of protecting us from tyranny.

23 AntwortenBearbeitet von Princess Anomaly: 12/31/2015 5:56:50 PMNot to mention the Second Amendment only grants the right for the people to assemble armed militias if the situation arose where the people needed to defend themselves and/or rebel against their government. Nowhere does it say individual people have the right to own guns. That's gun nuts misinterpreting it for their own gain. inb4 pissed off gun nuts

IN MY OPINION It should be a privilege, not a right.
-
Honestly the 2nd amendment needs to be revised for modern times. It says the right "shall not be infringed" but if we were to follow it exactly we'd have to allow anyone to bear arms, including violent criminals.
-
Another thing, if the US government turned on its people, and fighting broke out on a large enough scale, another country would step in and pave all of us to the ground. It would essentially be an open invitation for America to be destroyed by someone else.
-
6 AntwortenI would argue that a good example of the Second Amendment at work would be the Minutemen, private colonists who took up arms at a minute's notice, to confront an opposing force. A militia comprised of gun owning citizens.

2 AntwortenYa know Max you seem to have SO MANY problems with the US it would obviously be better for you and for us if you just moved to a different country
-
Do you really think the Army will fight their families?
-
8 AntwortenObama has Isis, we won't be fighting our military
-
7 AntwortenMy issue is the right to "bear" arms clearly implies military service. All the amendment saying is you have the right to serve in the National Guard, if you want to.
-
I actually disagree. They do have superior technology sure, but when has the government ever ran efficiently under normal conditions? Let alone that of a civilian uprising. I kid of course, but I highly doubt the US government could sustain itself well enough in a tyrannical form. You'd need a fair amount of the population in support of such a reform and oppressing the rest of the civilian base, as well of some way to keep many of our own soldiers in line. It would likely collapse on itself and fall into another civil war of a sorts, or some kind of pseudo-Russian worker revolt.
Another point people keep raising is that the US Military *is* the American people, and would not go into battle against its own people.
This is what everyone has said within every dictatorial regime in history. The Chinese military IS the Chinese people, they wouldn't follow Chairman Mao if he ordered them to hurt the citizens!

2 AntwortenThe soldier's creed... I am an American Soldier. I am a warrior and a member of a team. I serve the people of the United States, and live the Army Values. I will always place the mission first. I will never accept defeat. I will never quit. I will never leave a fallen comrade. I am disciplined, physically and mentally tough, trained and proficient in my warrior tasks and drills. I always maintain my arms, my equipment and myself. I am an expert and I am a professional. I stand ready to deploy, engage, and destroy, the enemies of the United States of America in close combat. I am a guardian of freedom and the American way of life. I am an American Soldier. Read the 4th line... I SERVE the people of the United States

28 AntwortenNowhere in the Constitution is the right to use any sort of violence against the government. Anyone who says that the Second Amendment is there to protect us from our own government has no idea what they're talking about. The Second Amendment was written at a time when armed militias were something that mattered in American warfare and when the threat of a foreign government was rampant. Today, it means the right to own guns for home defense against criminals and intruders. Again, no one has the right to commit violence against the government. If you disagree, let me ask you this: When you saw the riots in Ferguson and Baltimore this year, did you think "these are people defending their rights?"

The government is not a big brother-esque system* And they are normal living people too. Also the military is American people. They think and feel like the rest of us. they don't go around getting POWs and recruiting them to the military. Also, fighting would be the least of our problems if America ever went into a state like that. Conclusion:OP is fgt
*yet
England never had the 2nd Amendment, yet successfully defeated the tyranny of King Charles I.
