Why do so many many men/boys have so many female guardians? It's not a problem. It's not wrong. Just wondering.
I logged onto Twitch the other day and watched Todd's stream. (I'm calling them Todd to protect their identity) They were doing a Vault of Glass challenge using only No Land Beyond. From close speculation, I saw EVERY guardian there was a female weather it was Awoken/Exo, or Human, (Awoken being the most popular dominating the whole fireteam). I commented, "Why do guys have so many female characters?" He replied on-stream by saying, "evanzilla, (I'm keeping my Twitch name hidden.) that's sexist and offensive." I automatically felt bad and was convinced I did something wrong so I pleaded in the comments for mercy on the streamer's behalf. Everyone in the chat said things like, "gr8 b8 m8", and "not buying it you fag.", until I was left with no choice but to convince of my truth and subbed for the streamer.
So what's in a gender anyway?
I've noticed that asking why a male player is using a female character tends to spread a lot of fire, and ultimately gets me booted from a team, or blocked/muted.
I could simply go the offensive route by saying, "Guys who have female characters want to use girls as objects in their fantasies" Or I could go the psychological route by saying, "Boys and men with female characters are having an emotional loss and are distancing themselves from real women and seeking refuge online..." BORING.
Not too long ago there were, "leaked" artistic representations of the Queen and Petra Venj "nude" and EVERYONE WENT BERSERK! It was like throwing a prime rib steak at a group of starved dogs. They were ravenous! Bungie quickly got ahold of the thread, and thank heck deleted those images.
Notice how both the Queen and Petra Venj are both AWOKEN.
Here's another generalization I could propose. "Guys in Destiny make female Awoken chicks as there players to satisfy their **xual fetishes." Now that's just plain creepy.
EDIT: Another idea says that everyone seems to like the shaders and armor on the female guardians.
The last generalization is that people just like female characters. Plain. I'm guessing one of these has to fit with most everyone who plays a female character as a male in real life.
If there's anything else I missed please tell me in the comments so I can edit the post.
CONCLUSION: So there isn't one dominant reason why. Some like the shaders, some like the armor, some like the booty, and some just roll with it. This wasn't one of those, "Guys with girl guardians are total sex whores who need to be banned" posts. It was PURELY OUT OF CURIOSITY. Thanks guys for your answers.
Edit 1: Wow guys! 50 replies in an hour, that's awesome!! Also, there seems to be a pattern of people saying the arm our looks better, and I kinda agree.
Edit 2: Holy jeez we got 200 comments! Thanks guys! Speechless. Also, people are STRONGLY saying the armor and shaders look good. Will add that in.
Edit 3: if you guys think I'm not about women you're totally wrong. Yes women are awesome, but they're not objects.
Also, an women out there with an opinion on this?
Edit 4: LOADS of people are saying they'd rather look at a girl's "*ss" rather than a guy's. I personally wouldn't look and anyone's ass and just play the game it was meant for.
Edit 5: No words. There seems to be a lot of chatter about this topic. Thanks for all your reasons why the women characters are used a lot! It helps me understand something that no one talks about.
Edit 6: Guys, I just wanna know WHY, I'm just curious as to why there is such a high pattern.
EDIT 7: This was all a survey conducted for information contributing to the thesis of my cultural dissertation. No judgements were meant to be made.

I just made a female because I enjoy the thought of a female Titan more. Male Titans seem kind of over the top, while female Titans seem more controlled and physically possible. I also made her human because 1. I already had an Exo and awoken and 2. It seemed the most natural.
-
Liked exo so made both male and female. I did used to have a male human hunter but i was dissatisfied with his looks and just made an awoken. During the creation process i just couldn't get a look down for male awoken without it reminding me of twilight. So female. Didn't really care what people said as I'm comfortable in my sexuality

1 AntwortenI have a female Hunter because I think that the male Hunters look weird with their armor (no offense to people who have guy Hunters)
-
For me, it's all about character variety. My main (Titan) is an male Awoken, my Hunter is a female Human (boring, I know, but I am not rerolling at this point), and my Warlock is a male Exo. I guess I just like the diversity.
-
My warlock is seeeeeeee xxyyyy

1 AntwortenWhat I believe is the ones asking these questions tend to be the ones hitting on gamer girls, or looking for an online girlfriend. Why do us humans play as awoken or exo? Simply because we choose to and enjoy the variety.
-
The female exo pop locks like a champ lol
-
I liked the dance better
-
I'm making my third character female because you get different armor models on certain classes
-
Because male hunters can't stand up straight
-
Just like the less bulky character model more
-
Literally every single person I ask why they use a female guardian is strictly for the seductive dance moves haha. Really that's the only reason I would ever feel the need to make a female character. Finally have a different dam dance routine
-
If you ask this, why not ask why girls have male characters? I've been one of those (not on Destiny tho) and I'm curious for everyone's reasons. My friend is because as a female, she'd get harassed my the guys. So male character, no issues.

1 AntwortenBecause the female exo has the best dance.

Bearbeitet von Seven: 12/23/2015 7:23:34 PMWhy can't...the world just accept that as a dude there's nothing wrong with wanting to forge a strong female protagonist in light? It doesn't need to be psychologically examined or compared to rule 34 generalizations... I have three characters, one is a female sunsinger awoken gal with eyes like fire who will slap you all and proc a beauteous blue shield... The other two are exos which frankly I wish were genderless. In the same regard I'm not exhibiting some mechanist affinity because I think exos are bomb and my favorite badass character is easily ol' HK-47. Stop worrying about gender flesh sack. It's getting stale that 12 year olds with a lacking understanding of non-gender binaries take such issue with what character model people prefer. MAYBE IM TRYING TO PORTRAY A MALE WITH WASPISH HIPS? WHAT ABOUT THAT HUH? Where's the love for non masculine facing males, and non dainty females? That's a far greater issue within gaming than the "omg you're a girl but a guy player omgggggggggggggg"

paper to write or nor, the more important question you should be asking yourself is _why you care_. who cares what gender the player's character is? they behave the same otherwise, same abilities and pool of available weaponry to purchase or for RNGeezus to bless them with. the success or failure of whatever raid, strike, match, or mission you're running with (or against) your fellow guardians in no way hinges on the curvature (or lack thereof) of their sprites, so why does it matter to you? why should it strike you as abnormal in some way?
-
Idk why this is such a big deal
-
I'm sure I'm not alone when I say I have one female character because my others are male. Variety for variety's sake.

-
Female characters have smaller hit boxes.

2 AntwortenHunters are kinda vain with their fashionable cloaks, and that to me says female.
-
1 AntwortenA) You let a streamer hurt your feelings. B) Because mature men are lonely and weird
-
What is this, I don't even...
I Make up stories for everything. Hunter made sense to be female, y'know, sexy assassin type deal. Warlock is male because he's a sarcastic dude who'll "kill himself" when someone is stupid, only to self res. Titan goes either way. Either strong chick in tiny frame or a dude whose fist answers all questions.
Posted in another thread.

4 AntwortenDo me a favor. Reply to this post stating specifically the topic, and intended angle of your paper. I meant every word of my post below, but had I known your intent that post would have been very different. That said, I still don't fully know your objective/angle here. Tell me what it is you're really looking for, and I will give you a post that addresses what you are asking as best I can. Also, when is this due by? My next post will take me at least a day of research and note taking. I intend to do it over the next two days. Why? Because this sort of conversation is actually fun for me.
