Why do so many many men/boys have so many female guardians? It's not a problem. It's not wrong. Just wondering.
I logged onto Twitch the other day and watched Todd's stream. (I'm calling them Todd to protect their identity) They were doing a Vault of Glass challenge using only No Land Beyond. From close speculation, I saw EVERY guardian there was a female weather it was Awoken/Exo, or Human, (Awoken being the most popular dominating the whole fireteam). I commented, "Why do guys have so many female characters?" He replied on-stream by saying, "evanzilla, (I'm keeping my Twitch name hidden.) that's sexist and offensive." I automatically felt bad and was convinced I did something wrong so I pleaded in the comments for mercy on the streamer's behalf. Everyone in the chat said things like, "gr8 b8 m8", and "not buying it you fag.", until I was left with no choice but to convince of my truth and subbed for the streamer.
So what's in a gender anyway?
I've noticed that asking why a male player is using a female character tends to spread a lot of fire, and ultimately gets me booted from a team, or blocked/muted.
I could simply go the offensive route by saying, "Guys who have female characters want to use girls as objects in their fantasies" Or I could go the psychological route by saying, "Boys and men with female characters are having an emotional loss and are distancing themselves from real women and seeking refuge online..." BORING.
Not too long ago there were, "leaked" artistic representations of the Queen and Petra Venj "nude" and EVERYONE WENT BERSERK! It was like throwing a prime rib steak at a group of starved dogs. They were ravenous! Bungie quickly got ahold of the thread, and thank heck deleted those images.
Notice how both the Queen and Petra Venj are both AWOKEN.
Here's another generalization I could propose. "Guys in Destiny make female Awoken chicks as there players to satisfy their **xual fetishes." Now that's just plain creepy.
EDIT: Another idea says that everyone seems to like the shaders and armor on the female guardians.
The last generalization is that people just like female characters. Plain. I'm guessing one of these has to fit with most everyone who plays a female character as a male in real life.
If there's anything else I missed please tell me in the comments so I can edit the post.
CONCLUSION: So there isn't one dominant reason why. Some like the shaders, some like the armor, some like the booty, and some just roll with it. This wasn't one of those, "Guys with girl guardians are total sex whores who need to be banned" posts. It was PURELY OUT OF CURIOSITY. Thanks guys for your answers.
Edit 1: Wow guys! 50 replies in an hour, that's awesome!! Also, there seems to be a pattern of people saying the arm our looks better, and I kinda agree.
Edit 2: Holy jeez we got 200 comments! Thanks guys! Speechless. Also, people are STRONGLY saying the armor and shaders look good. Will add that in.
Edit 3: if you guys think I'm not about women you're totally wrong. Yes women are awesome, but they're not objects.
Also, an women out there with an opinion on this?
Edit 4: LOADS of people are saying they'd rather look at a girl's "*ss" rather than a guy's. I personally wouldn't look and anyone's ass and just play the game it was meant for.
Edit 5: No words. There seems to be a lot of chatter about this topic. Thanks for all your reasons why the women characters are used a lot! It helps me understand something that no one talks about.
Edit 6: Guys, I just wanna know WHY, I'm just curious as to why there is such a high pattern.
EDIT 7: This was all a survey conducted for information contributing to the thesis of my cultural dissertation. No judgements were meant to be made.

Good question I've got 3 male characters but none of them look like me haha I just want my titan to have a fukin beard! Hahaha I don't know why either, but I think the majority of people didn't psychoanalyse it, they just made a female character plain and simple, no deep seeded reasons haha
I hope
I don't put much into it on Destiny with the female characters. But for other types of "social" games (RPG) like Second Life and the like. The female character that is ran by a male is fantasy. Also serves to get over on other people to get game currency etc. I for a time studied how people interacted and why people were draw to some "games" which aren't really games but an extension of real life into a fantasy life. It gets very scary as some lose track of real life and indulge into the fantasy life as it tends to be way better and you can control it more. But for Destiny I do see some trying to RPG this game. But really it doesn't work very well. Not like those developed for that specifically. And incorporating FPS into a RPG seems a bit limited years ago. Also trans community tends to use the a gender specific. And with PC being so stupidly high people especially teens and 20 somethings seem to be way over sensitive.

Because gender identity is slowly fading, some people recognised the unbalance of our society & want to balance it & show females can be badass heros as well!

Because men are Pigs

Why you get a lot of dumb replys.......because this exact same topic has been brought up & discussed here literally 1000s of times........mostly by people who are just seeking attention, or for some reason, making a thread that gets a lot of replys makes them feel "smart" or something. I feel like the people who question "why" a male would make a female character, has more issues with gender than the person making the character. I can tell you why I made one female character, and two male characters........it's the same reason I made a human, an exo, and an awoken character. VARIETY......simple as that & i believe that is the main reason by far that many other male players have done the same.

5 AntwortenHunter - Female Human Warlock - Female / Male Awoken Titan - Male Exo Hunters are slim, frail and sly, the female frame fits that perfectly. Humans are frail but have quick thinking. Warlocks are cunning beings. I use Awoken because of the eyes. It looks like they peeked into the depths of the universe and came out enlightened. Gender is not a definement of intelligence so a Warlock could be either male or female. Titans are tanks. Male frames are broader, sturdier. I use Exo because metal is sturdier than flesh and they look like they can take more hits that way. I'd like to read your thoughts on this, fellow guardians. I'll read and answer later tonight.

Bearbeitet von Corndoge: 12/26/2015 11:56:33 PMI'll give you my reason why I play as a girl. I don't want to try to create a male character that looks like me. I don't really like the way I look in real life, so why would I replicate my average-looking self into a game. So I could try to replicate a "good looking" male right? I'm no homosexual, but I'll admit that there are guys out there that are good looking. For me, I think James Franco is a good looking guy. But I don't try to replicate that either. Why? No clue, probably because my next choice appeals to me more. So instead of a male, I go to a female. Alright, this part is pretty straight forward. Who would want to make themselves an ugly female? "Hey guys, look how ugly my girl hurr durr." That just normally doesn't happen. I don't really have a good explanation other than no one wants to be ugly. From there, I try to make a girl that is attractive to my standards. So here I have a girl that looks the way I want her; not ugly. Of course I stated earlier that good looking guys exist, but I'd rather look at female than a male. So there's my reasoning. I would just want to be able to look at my character and not think that it's ugly. If I start having doubts in my character's appearance, I feel inclined to change their appearance.
Also the "smaller hit-boxes" claim is a not a valid claim in Destiny. Other games, maybe, but Destiny's bullet magnetism is strong enough to negate the difference in body size.

Honestly, my problem with males playing as a female only extends to where they actually try to act like a girl. That's where I draw the line.
Real question is, why do you care what someone else's character is?
-
My Titan and Warlock are each Awoken Females. I made the Titan in the image of a protagonist from a novel I'm working on, and intended to make the Warlock in the image of the other protagonist, but messed up and made it female instead of male. Thus, I now have two identical characters in the image of the female protagonist from the novel.

I am going to chime in and say it is more often than not an aesthetic choice. Most of the time, in games like these, the female models for characters tend to be better developed. There's usually more options for customization as compared to male characters. I don't think it is that guys want to play female characters (though, I don't think there's anything wrong with it), but the female characters tend to be more unique and aesthetically pleasing.

1 AntwortenThe question should be, why not?

Still one reason why I chose female guardians: RWBY inspired. There's nothing wrong for being a fan of the show. O3o

9 AntwortenCloset homosexuals, the lot of them. Or perverts who fantasize about CGI. There is no good reason, and, it's weird.
-
Two of the three characters I have are male, and the last one I made female with the sole intent of trying my hardest to make it look like a transsexual man in drag.

Bearbeitet von Spoop: 12/26/2015 11:44:53 PMWhy do people make their character an exo or awoken if they're actually a human ?
because it's a video game
Male hunters are ugly.
-
I did if for variety. An awoken warlock male, an exo titan male and a human hunter female. Each a different class, race and I figured I want atleast one different gender.

1 AntwortenSmaller target..

3 AntwortenI am male And I use Female characters because it feels good to be a female in a video game

Smaller hit boxes

My Titan is a female because I thought I made her a male.

1 AntwortenProdigy said that he chose his because in some games a female character had a smaller headshot hit box so it was harder to hit them.

1 AntwortenIf im gunna spend hours and hours staring at my characters, im picking sexy awoken females. :P
