Yeah that's my point. I don't think it's very likely that some other dark side master was out there training dark side users without Sidious knowledge. So I think Sidious tried to kill Plageous, he thought he succeeded but failed.

In the EU, Plageuis taught Sidious everything he knew (and Plageuis' master taught him, etc), and Sidious killed Plageuis on the night of getting elected Supreme Chancellor. Now that is not canon anymore, Plageuis could very well be alive. That is an exciting possibility.
Sidious killed Plageuis on the night of getting elected Supreme.
He left it that late? But... If the Rule of Two was in effect, that would give us three Sith in TPM (Plagueis, Sidious, Maul), and AOTC (Dooku too). So wat.
-
To be fair, the EU usually contradicted the main canon. Another example of breaking the Sith's Rule of Two would be Darth Vader taking Galen Marek as an apprentice.
-
Also, it's just something the Sith made up to prevent infighting. Nothing to prevent it from being broken.
-
Plagueus teaching Sidious everything he knew before Sidious killed him is still canon. It was discussed in Episode III by Sidious himself.
-
Unless it was mentioned in the novelization, Sidious never says Plageuis was his master. All we know, Plageuis could be a myth now to the new order of canon. Just an example that Sidious used to manipulate Anakin.

Hmmm...well in the movie Sidious tells the story of Darth Plageous the Wise. He also tells Anakin that his "mentor" taught him the ways of the Dark side. He further tells Anakin that he is the only way he can save his loved one "Use my knowledge, I beg you." I mean it's not explicitly stated but I think it's implied that Sidious was Plageous' Master. Just another bit of conjecture: In the EU (which I understand is no longer canon but JJ said they may draw from) it was said that Plageous created Anakin from the Force. What if that is how Snoke seduces Ben Solo? He's more of a father to Ben than Han is, because Snoke basically led to his creation.
