Yes, you read that correctly. I am deaf. I have also been born without the use of speech. That being said, I would like to share all of my "glorious adventures" with the community.
My Gamertag is as stated above, and I have been playing Destiny ever since the release of "The Dark Below".
At first, I was very confused about where I needed to go during the opening level. The first course of action I took was to leap to my death off the cliff next to where I started, unaware of what boundaries the game had, as I initially thought that I could go anywhere. I was wrong. Lol
After being stupid, I paused the menu and discovered that subtitles were optional. This saved my life. Oh, thank you subtitles.....
To fast forward things, I finally make it to Lv 32, and by that time, I was ready to participate in my first raid, Crota's End.
Due to many complaints of confusement, I have to inform you all that this was an exaggeration about the exact level I was when it happened. I just didn't want to dwell on it, but rather continue the adventure. Yet there are those whom nitpick and you can't stop that unfortunately.
It was rather difficult to find a fireteam, because I had to message them about my disabilities. This I'm sure of, is that many players of whom I requested to help me, didn't help me NOT BECAUSE they were heartless b*stards, but because they didn't want to involve myself into their raid team.
I can understand why, and that's okay. :)
So on I go, and I finally got a Fireteam. This time, I only told them that I didn't have a mic, and they didn't mind. So there I go, into the pitch-black assh*le of the Moon.
You could only imagine what it was like. Instead of listening, (since I couldn't) I visually watched them as they ran through the black, crossed the bridge, and attempted to kill the Deathsingers and Crota.
Deafsingers... Lol Get it? (That was terrible...)
Every time I would see their name disappear on the bottom right of the screen when they were facing me, (depicting that they've stopped talking) I pretended to understand, and moved my characters' gun up & down hoping they'd buy it, and what do you know? We beat Crota.
A future of many friends were found after and these friends (not to be mistaken with the raiders) knew of my disabilities after I let them know, and they didn't mind. I thank them for that. With the following months gone by, I was able to achieve victory over Atheon, Crota, and Oryx many times.
Oryx just once actually...
I'm still with those friends today and we've experienced many moments together. Not just them, but from these forums, I've seen & played with many good people on Destiny. Our community is one of both good and prosperity, and has brought together a lot of different types of people.
Kind of got off topic there.
Anyways, if you'd like to ask me any questions, just feel free to, and I'll happily answer them. Thank you and God be with you. :D
Update: The reason why I didn't want to include what console I play on was simply due to making sure I'm not hoarded with friend requests. All of which are very much appreciated, but at the same time would draw too much attention. I don't want to make it seem like I made this post due to attention. You must understand.

Very nice my man. "I" haven't even beat Oryx yet.
-
My one successful run of KF Hard was with a guy who seemed deaf (possibly just didn't have a mic), he was probably the best player on the team, he only died when he was afk during Oryx and that was only because he was the runner and no one noticed he was gone till we wiped.

2 AntwortenHow are you still alive if you're deaf? Troll spotted.
-
Hopefully you are being honest about your hearing. Either way, I have a few guys that I play with on occasion that are completely deaf. I learned by repeated messages to them asking them to join party. Finally I received a message stating that he could not hear but could hold his own and text when needed. There was concerns among the rest of group on not having mic, but we made it through the raid fairly easily. I could only imagine the amount of times he gets kicked after joining, but I know it was well worth my time to join up with a strong player.

That's awesome! Glad you've had such a good experience.

I played this game without any sound for most of my playtime, didn't seem like I missed much

2 AntwortenI've been BLIND AND DEAF from the neck down since I was born. Speaking of which, I was circumcised when I was like six days old and I didn't walk for NEARLY A YEAR!

That's actually really cool. This doesn't really relate, but my parents are deaf & I always wondered how it would be to play a video game if I was deaf too.

nice story man made me laugh

Everyone has the disappointing realization of the boundaries within the game :(

Bearbeitet von PumpMelon: 12/23/2015 3:41:22 AMNice story, that takes courage to open up to the community like that. Found it funny when you talked about moving your gun up and down to make it seem like you knew what you were doing. You must've got lucky to find good friends, half wouldn't have the effort to teach people the mechanics over a mic. Forget texting. Anyways, thanks for a nice read before I go to bed.

2 AntwortenI'm hearing impaired - not totally deaf and wear a hearing aid - and can't understand people on a mic. I've tried a few times in the past to do kings fall and just gave up. Most fireteam leaders aren't willing to text so I don't see the point in wasting time trying to raid anymore.

This is a really nice story. If your on a Xbox 360 I could help if you need it

Way to over come adversity. I would have been completely lost if I couldn't hear my team teach me the raid mechanics the first time. GG m8

I'm actually an armless, legless, headless, torsoless..... Uh... Yeah. Beat that.

You couldn't be level 32 without Crota's end raid gear so I don't even believe you're deaf kid Before you lie and say 3 ib gear and 1 exotic back then you can only have on 2 ib gear which wouldn't make you 32
-
That's great man! It's awesome that you can continue to enjoy friendly relationships and interaction through video games despite your disability.
-
Not that it relates at all to how you've overcome and managed to find a great community, but with Crota's end I had an experience where I didn't have a Mic, only headphones. I communicated with nods and had somebody who managed to translate for me as I was the sword bearer. It was a great experience and I became known for being able to do raids without a mic
