Since the new arrivals to the store, the usual two groups have emerged.
Group A: the whiners that look for anything to call Bungie out on and don't understand what pay to win is
Group B: the level headed group that understands what pay to win actually is and understands how little of an impact this actually has.
Pay to win is not getting to level 25 faster than me because you paid 30 dollars to do so. Level 25 doesn't have any advantage and I will reach that level in ten hours of gameplay. There is nothing about it that lets you "win" over me especially for the current player base.
Examples of what pay to win really is:
- buying an exclusive subclass
- buying an exclusive exotic weapon or armor
- buying a boost that significantly (like way greater than 3of coins) increases exotic drop rate and is usable all the time
- buying something that would be required to play content such as the raid
- buying things that would give you a significant advantage over every other player in the crucible
Now that you have real examples of what pay to win is, maybe you can make a better decision next time before coming and bitching on he forums about things you claim to be, but are not, pay to win.
Edit: Good fucking God I did not expect this to catch this much attention. I hope you all realize I won't be reading these comments lol. But thanks for giving me my first trending post! I will add some follow up points below.
1.) it is a slippery slope, I agree with that much, but it is in no way pay to win, no matter which tiniest little scenario you come up with in which it shows a glimpse of that nature, this has no effect on "winning" considering we were all given the spark of light for free when we bought ttk
2.) people are saying I'm the kind of person that would defend them even if they sold 320 gear. No..no I would not be. Selling end game gear, although it is something earn-able, is not something I would be okay with. What this current boost does is get you caught up quickly if you really want to blow 30 dollars, not allow you to spend money on something to get endgame gear while others have to grind for it. Not okay with that in the slightest.
3.) if Bungie ever sells anything available only through purchase with real world money that gives a significant advantage, like if they had sold the touch of malice or a thorn 2.0, that was not obtainable in game, I would be standing right alongside the rest of you rioting and protesting. Or if they sold any exotic gear for that matter.
4.) to recap, pay to win is not this. Pay to win is being able to buy something significantly advantageous that is completely unobtainable in game. But I would still not be okay with them selling anything of real importance in game. But xp boosters? The least of my worries.
Edit: I notice a number of you mentioning the "cosmetic only" promise. Technically, they still haven't broken it because eververse is what they were referring to. These items are sold through the console store :p (I'm just being a troll lol, but I do get what you're saying)

1 Antwortenjust the fact that you trying so hard to defend this ripoff shows its wrong
-
1 AntwortenI think for me the main issue is that they lied already. Only cosmetic was the line they used. Now maybe it's a grey area, not exactly pay to win, but definitely not cosmetic only.
-
1 AntwortenXur's the closest thing to "pay-to-win" since you pay him in Strange Coins to get Exotics.

I think everyone needed this reminder, thank you for posting this.

I agree completely. They are trending down a very slippery slope though. The very minute that things become advantageous for the buyers vs. established players, I will drop this game like a bad habit.

I don't even care if it is pay to win honestly. I think it's a slimy corporate move in the first place to add microtransactions to any of this. It's been a hobby of mine for 20 yrs and every F$%#@ company is putting a roulette wheel in it. YOU"RE A PAYING CUSTOMER, WHO'S ALREADY LAID THE CASH DOWN. Stick up for yourselves FFS, look at where games are now and how they were ten years ago. Half the titles you've bought rely on servers that aren't always operating, games are full of bugs, especially so at launch and now every single title is asking for your small change too. I think it's time some of us woke up a little and stopped thinking this is a cool thing that changes nothing. We didn't get here because the first skin in COD that was sold was largely harmless.

This is not pay to win. Yet. This is just a step Bungie is taking to what will soon be pay to win. Even if I'm wrong Luke Smith specifically stated they will make these things purely cosmetic.

1 AntwortenThe moment you use the argument that a microtransaction isn't bad because you can achieve the same thing with X amount of hours, is the moment that you admit that there is no and will never be a limit to what they can sell with microtransactions. Because, guess what? Literally every single little thing in the game is achievable by spending time. Whether it's a few hundred hours or a few thousand hours. Everything in this game revolves around time because there is no hardcore experience. Why no boost to level 300? I mean, everything to 300 is relatively easy. Or shall we draw the line at 310? Perhaps even 320 when the next content is released? Calling content to a certain point "trivial" will always be subjective. Claiming that 25 is trivial and thay it doesn't matter is a subjective statement. A lot of people would make the same argument about light level 310 now. The problem isn't the current boost. The problem is that it's a slippery slope that started a while ago with "just cosmetics" and it continued getting slightly worse and every time it was met with "it's just this or that".

2 AntwortenBearbeitet von FlandreScarlette: 12/15/2015 10:40:25 PMI believe "pay to win" encompasses anything that involves you cutting through time grinding that other people had to do. Level shortcuts, weapon experience givers....the kind of stuff that they did in Battlefield that allowed you to have everything unlocked. Etc. That's all pay to win in my book; you pay them money, you get something that someone else put time into getting with no time on your part. Cosmetics are not pay to win. I don't care that much that they're here. Those are fine- paying to not have to grind is a pretty scumbag-y concept, but that might just be me. That price is atrocious, though, so if someone really doesn't want to take the 10+ hours to grind their Subclass and level up, that's on them...

7 AntwortenLmao this faggòt right here is gonna be a o k with bungie adding in buy able 320 engram packages he's gonna say " omg dude it's ONLY a buy able engram package like we can get that In game for only 50 hours of grinding"
-
You're the worst

2 AntwortenThis game is pay to play, play to skip the grind, pay to skip the story, pay to customize, pay to emote, pay to stat track, pay pay pay pay pay. I've quit for a month. They just emailed me free items to come back. Now they're paying me! https://www.dropbox.com/s/dxg41l54e4k4yo9/Photo%20Dec%2015%2C%208%2028%2008%20PM.png?dl=0

Bungie explain how this is cosmetic? I'm a little cofused or is this the beginning of pay to win...
-
I was afraid if I said this I'd get super shat on
-
I just had this discussion in a group of mine. You couldn't have put it any better.
-
-
Is the game that grinding and boring that some may want to skip play to get ahead? I think that's the real issue here. I play sparingly, so wouldn't see the use of skipping steps, play to win (and having fun) seems like still the best alternative for me.

2 AntwortenPeople who have played and left many games because this situation has been repeated numerous times in games over the last 10 years speak out against what they see happening once again in Destiny. And in Each of those games the same lines are used ,,, "Wait and See", and " If they do add something eventually than bitch about it" ,,,,, and then of course when it is added they turn around and say "Well you should have spoken up before they added it, to late now" Some people have around 800 to 900+ hours into the game , that is a Large chunk of their Life and Time yes they can make more money but they can never buy more Time. This is the Only game some people play, and they are passionate about it, and they are afraid.... (With good reason because a quick look at games in the last 10 years that added cash shops into them is proof positive that the mass majority ended very badly)...that history is repeating itself once again in Destiny. Bungie keeps making statements that things won't happen and then they do, they said those boost items would never be sold , and now they are selling them. ( and for an outrageous price). So if they specificly stated the boost items would never be sold and now they sell them, and they also said they will never have pay to win than ...... Add 2+2 Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me . If the boost item was the only thing they ever added and were shady about I could see saying there is no cause for alarm, but Bungie track record with Destiny has been nothing but empty and broken promises since release. Even a lot if their most loyal fans are looking at those Boosts right know and getting a very bad feeling in the pit of their stomach about trusting Bungie .

Not really pay to win but it bugs me anyways. I dont support games that have microtransactions unless its a free to play game or a mmo. If i had known ttk would introduce them then no way would i have bought ttk.

PEW PEW PEW!

Stop being a -blam!- and learn to deal with the fact that the destiny you may have loved is gone
-
1 AntwortenYou dont get it. The problem is that this is as close to pay-2-win as it gets. The problem is the fact that it's all a very slippery slope. First it starts with cosmetics, then speed leveling and pay 2 win comes after.
-
2 AntwortenI agree with this post! The game isn't pay to win at all... There's nothing that helps you level up or anything at all except for the sparkling light which gets you to level 25 which is completely useless and doesn't help with anything! Playstation players get exclusives but that's not pay to win cuz they don't pay with Xbox players! People that don't get map packs are at the disadvantage only cuz they don't have the new gear and crucible is very balanced out even then! I don't agree with microtransactions but that's a different argument! Now people are finding a reason to bitch at everything!
-
It's part of bungies cash cow. -blam!- everyone at this pos company. We were all played.
-
I mostly agree.. but now they are walking a VERY fine line.... I am still mostly supporting micro transactions... but this one is definitely pushing it...
