Since the new arrivals to the store, the usual two groups have emerged.
Group A: the whiners that look for anything to call Bungie out on and don't understand what pay to win is
Group B: the level headed group that understands what pay to win actually is and understands how little of an impact this actually has.
Pay to win is not getting to level 25 faster than me because you paid 30 dollars to do so. Level 25 doesn't have any advantage and I will reach that level in ten hours of gameplay. There is nothing about it that lets you "win" over me especially for the current player base.
Examples of what pay to win really is:
- buying an exclusive subclass
- buying an exclusive exotic weapon or armor
- buying a boost that significantly (like way greater than 3of coins) increases exotic drop rate and is usable all the time
- buying something that would be required to play content such as the raid
- buying things that would give you a significant advantage over every other player in the crucible
Now that you have real examples of what pay to win is, maybe you can make a better decision next time before coming and bitching on he forums about things you claim to be, but are not, pay to win.
Edit: Good fucking God I did not expect this to catch this much attention. I hope you all realize I won't be reading these comments lol. But thanks for giving me my first trending post! I will add some follow up points below.
1.) it is a slippery slope, I agree with that much, but it is in no way pay to win, no matter which tiniest little scenario you come up with in which it shows a glimpse of that nature, this has no effect on "winning" considering we were all given the spark of light for free when we bought ttk
2.) people are saying I'm the kind of person that would defend them even if they sold 320 gear. No..no I would not be. Selling end game gear, although it is something earn-able, is not something I would be okay with. What this current boost does is get you caught up quickly if you really want to blow 30 dollars, not allow you to spend money on something to get endgame gear while others have to grind for it. Not okay with that in the slightest.
3.) if Bungie ever sells anything available only through purchase with real world money that gives a significant advantage, like if they had sold the touch of malice or a thorn 2.0, that was not obtainable in game, I would be standing right alongside the rest of you rioting and protesting. Or if they sold any exotic gear for that matter.
4.) to recap, pay to win is not this. Pay to win is being able to buy something significantly advantageous that is completely unobtainable in game. But I would still not be okay with them selling anything of real importance in game. But xp boosters? The least of my worries.
Edit: I notice a number of you mentioning the "cosmetic only" promise. Technically, they still haven't broken it because eververse is what they were referring to. These items are sold through the console store :p (I'm just being a troll lol, but I do get what you're saying)

I agree this isnt pay to win but bungie is creeping ever close to the line and they're going to see how far they can push it.

7 AntwortenWell they are certainly pushing the limit. If any of the things you mention happen then bungie will be really desperate to keep people. It will almost be the end of the game. When that happens then I'm out b

1 AntwortenMore like 'pay to not grind'

I call it enjoying a game so little, that you actually pay to skip it.

I started sharing my account with my 2 sons. We all had 1 character. They eventually migrated to their own accounts once they determined they liked it that much so I deleted 1 character and created what I wanted. Redoing the story and leveling up again was a CHORE. I waited to redo the third and was so grateful for the spark of light. 25 with no subclasses no access to daily or weekly events and still no access to exotics or most good gear. It was still a CHORE to get to 40 on the 3rd character. As much as I hated redoing the story twice. I wouldn't buy this for that amount. Maybe $5

3 AntwortenNo One Wins This doesn't affect us. We're already at the max level. Everyone gets a 25 class booster for free anyway This thing cannot and will not substain profits, because no one will simply buy it, because everyone is already at max level with max subclasses. This only hurt Bungie's Reputation because the pea-brained will call anything pay-to-win

Even most of your examples are not pay to win, depending on the circumstances. What pay to win is is any item that; 1: can only be obtained with real money. 2: gives an advantage otherwise not possible without it in PvP/PvE . 3: is not part of a expansion.

Well broken down.
